What qualifies as not done jack though? Just cause he didnt win a Super Bowl without ELway? This is his record since Elway Left 99- 6-10 00 - 11-5 01- 8-8 02- 9-7 03- 10-6 04- 10-6 05 -13-3 06- 9-7 08- 8-8 Now... I'm more in favor of Gruden as well vs Shannahan... and Shannahan outside of a Conference Title Appaerance in 2005 didnt do much in the playoffs, an the AFC West has traditionally been much weaker then the NFC East.. but I'd certainley take this over what the REdskins had the last 10 years, thats for sure. I certainly dont think he did a bad job at all since Elway left. Thats 6 winning seasons, 2 .55 seasons and a losing season... All AFTER Elway. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Yeah but Sherm Lewis and Blache should not be uttered in the same sentence as Gibbs. Vinny considers them all great and only Gibbs is.
it is a parting shot at Zorn, and for the Skins to release that statement, indicates Zorn is the ultimate lame duck |

I agree with you that he's a good coach, just a little overrated. He may be the best coach for us because no one can build an offensive line and solid running game like Shannahan. |
What would he call Zorn a great for? Doesn't have nearly the track record.
I think it's more the naming of SLewis and GBlache. No problem saying Great Coach in Joe Gibbs and great staff like JZ, GB, SL et al. But to list the current, without a mention somewhere of Zorn after he touted him, I think was very spiteful. The Sally Jenkins article gave a good thought on it. |

I think the whole deal about Shanahan being nothing w/o Elway is way overblown. The guy has won a ton of games in this league, he's a brilliant offensive mind, and he's well respected.

GMANC71 what about 2007 for Shanahan?

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Why would you assume that? Gruden praised Campbell for a lot when doing the commentary for our game. He pointed out a few things he could suggest to Campbell for improvement while saying basically "I could take this guy to the next level, he has the talent". This of course, was BEFORE Jason's game took off in the last 6 weeks. JC earned his future with the team I think.
No question Gruden likes JC. He coached him at the Senior Bowl when JC was coming out for the draft so they have a history. Monday Night is going to be very interesting! |

Another thing to add about Gruden is his connection with Allen. I think that is a huge positive.

you think its possible to keep zorn as qb coach if not head coach?

Spiteful, and out of line in my opinion. I heard Rock had a few choices words about Vinny. Not sure what though |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I agree Synder made the right move but is it the right guy for GM? He was fired by the Bucs who're worse than us. The guy had a chance to draft a decent player at 15 in '04 but took Michael Clayton. He did get that CB from Kansas, but none of his top picks went to the pro bowl or have made an impact, i.e (Gaines Adams). I' m glad we got rid of Vinny, but did we jump the gun to quick to get Allen?

Very doubtful. He'll be a coordinator for another team or something. Shoot if Linehan got a job after going 0-16 with the Lions, then anyone can get a job in the league. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I think its possible to keep Zorn.
Just for the record I am not a huge Gruden guy either. I think he is ok. I prefer Holmgren, so we can keep JC, Zorn and the WCO. I highly doubt this will happen, especially after Mike's comments about Zorn's play calling situation. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I think I mentioned it earlier, but don't discount the possibility of a "lesser known" name. Brian Schottenheimer, Kyle Shanahan to name a couple

One could argue that also. Shannahan did surround Elway with pro-bowl talent at all of the skilled positions. Rod Smith, McCaffery, Terrell Davis, Shannan Sharpe. That was one hell of a supporting cast. |

Yeah I agree but we've got to give the guy a chance. We don't know what went on behind closed doors or how much say he had in those picks. He also put together some good teams in Oakland so let's wait and see. |

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Whatever Allens' track record was or how much say he had over the draft. The Bucs did select a lot of offensive linemen in the first 3 rounds during his time there. And isn't that something we've been clamoring for?

Nnamdi Asomugha was a Bruce Allen pick for the Raiders. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I hope this is a joke. Vinny might have been a bad gm, but he def has a better drafting record than allan. He COMPLETELY blew both his top 5 picks in cadallac williams and gaines adams. He missed on michael clayton and didnt exactly hit a homerun with either davin joseph or aquib talib. Out of his 5 years as gm, he only drafted 5 starters. That is pathetic. From the years of 2004-2008 vinny drafted more starters and more people who are still on the team. And vinny sucks. Because of Allan's shitty drafting over the years the bucs are THE WORST team in the league as of right now. This seems to be a dumbass publicity stunt to please the fans with a connection to redskins roots. We just traded a bucket of spit for a bucket of poop.
edit: I take back the publicity stunt comment, i bet nobody wanted to work with snyder and this was the last option. |

Hey, like I said, I am in favor of Gruden. I'm no big Mike Shannahan fan or anything, but I just dont see where this whole Elway was the only reason he was any good idea came from. Did he win a Super Bowl with anyone else? No, he didnt. Did Holmegren win a Super Bowl without Favre? Did Walsh win one without Montana? Lombardi without Bart Starr? (We can go on and on) I mean I am just saying he's a good coach. John Elway didn't make Mike Shannahan. And what about 2007 for Shannahan? Ok, what about 93,94,95,96,97,98, 01,02,03,04,06 and 2009 for the Redskins? I'll take what Mike Shannahan did without John Elway over our record the last 15 years anyday. All I'm saying is he's a good football coach. Did Elway help, absolutley. Does Shannahan win a Super Bowl without Elway, maybe not... but he still coached a Broncos team year in and year out that was in the thick of the playoff race or in the playoffs. I want to win a Super Bowl yes, thats all I really want and waht the goal should be..but we have to have a good regular season to have the right to play in January and that guy did it consistantly. Theres no arguing that. EDIT: I'm an idiot, I didnt see I left 2007 off, I thought that was the losing season you were reffering to... he was 7-9 that year so thats two losing seasons in 9 years... I still stand by my points, though. |

I go back to the SJ article. This move is as much about rebuilding a FO with integrity. Yes there are other pieces that need to come into play, like Smoot suggested, but VC had to go mainly to get rid of the backbiting, selfish, culture that had popped up in Ashburn. |

One thing to mention about that -- the Glazer family had previously extended the contract of both Gruden and Bruce Allen before ultimately changing their mind after the '08 season. The Bucs did start out 9-3 before a late season slide. It might have been a bit of a snap decision on the Glazer's part, and one that cost them quite a bit of money. Allen's draft record with Tampa Bay did have some mixed results, but look at the drafts of Oakland too. Nnamdi Asomugha, Justin Fargas, and Sebastian Janikowski are notable picks by him. I don't think there was a general manager candidate out there without some misses on their draft record. The guy with a perfect track record doesn't exist. Aside from Bill Polian, who as far as I know is not available, Allen had to be one of the top options who was currently unemployed. |

Gibbs only won 3 SB, but what mattered is every year, almost, the Redskins were relevant and feared. I would like to get back to that. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
According to PFT, the Skins have their sights on Shanahan. Florio's sources indicate this has been the plan all along and that Snyder wants Shanahan to run the show here and that firing Cerrato was the first step to make that happen.
If true, more than anything else, this means that Allen is really just Cerrato 2.0. Shanahan will have total control. Snyder will still be involved in things to some degree. Allen is just Snyder's newest puppet. |

I agree that our FO needed a makeover, but Im just trying to say that this makeover sucks. We should have gotten somebody signifacantly more qualified, somebody that didnt turn his recent superbowl champions into THE WORST team in football. |
