If it is bad, then there are a lot of bad people here. :) The only problem with Dallas losing last week is that they can't lose this week, too. |

The Redskins were awful this season, but we're under new management, we have high draft picks to supplement a talented roster, and our new coach has experience winning Super Bowls. Thankfully, I can't say the same of the Cowboys, a team that is always overrated and consistently underperforms when it counts. Who here thinks Wade Phillips will ever win a Super Bowl for Dallas? chirp.......chirp...........chirp..... |

I applaud the hiring of Shannahan, the best move that could have been made. More importantly, and please do not take this in a bad way, it seems that Snyder has taken page out of Jerry Jones book. After 3 consecutive 5-11 season with Dave Campo, Jones decided that in the best interest of the club that he needed to "release the reins" a bit. He hired Bill Parcells and surrendered a lot of the control that he had. The result was good and the talent level increased dramtically. Snyder has done something very similar with Shanny, and that is a smart move in my opinion. But based on your statement, failure is anything less than a Super Bowl. So every year, based on what you said, there are 31 teams that fail. And yeah, Shannahan has experience winning Super Bowls. But so does Parcells. And since the 1986 season how many Super Bowls has he won since? With the Pats, Jets or Cowboys? Shannahan won 2 Super Bowls with arugueably one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game. Since that QB left the NFL, Shannahan won only one playoff game, just one. And while that subject is in the air, how many coaches in the Super Bowl era have EVER won Super Bowls with 2 different teams? None is the correct answer. Guys like Parcells, Holmgren, Shula, Vermeil, Reeves and Gruden have made it to the SB with different teams. But none has ever WON Super Bowls with 2 different teams. Not saying Shanny won't get the job done, I am just saying if you are expecting "instant results" next season or even the following season, you may be just as disappointed as 2009. |

Jerry Jones forgot his "lesson." BTW the "how many coaches have won Super Bowls with two different teams" thing is a bit of a straw dog. "It can't be done" and "it hasn't been done" are two different statements which should not be confused. I am not arguing that Shanahan will win a SB or anything like that, I'm am simply pointing out a logically flawed if common argument. |

My point in my response to the gentlemens post was simply to recommend PATIENCE where Shanny and the new coaching staff are concerned. Zorn and his staff were not the only obstacle facing the Redskins. Just saying that by hiring Shanny and Allen, it is not like you "just add water" and viola, your in the Super Bowl next year. And as far as the "talent level" lost after Parcells, I disagree adamantly. Quite to the contrary that some of the most explosive players Dallas has were drafted by Phillips. Felix Jones Anthony Spencer Mike Jenkins Tashard Choice And keeping an eye on Victor Butler, he looks very promising. Just to name a few. |
Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
So what's the speculation that Phillips is kept around because he's a puppet guy for Jones?
|
Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
Well, he is definitley a puppet for Jones. I mean how many owners actually come down to the sidelines during the game? As anal as everyone say Snyder is, I've never seen him on the sidelines. The only reason Jones extended Phillips an additional is year is so he's not a lame duck coach with just 1 year left. If the Cowgirls shit the bed again like they did to end the 2009 season, Phillips will be fired as quickly as Zorn was.

Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
I think Jerry considers himself(or wants to be) the headcoach to some degree, thus he has Wade as his DC, and Garrett as the OC. I don't see Wade as any more of a true HC then people considered JZ in his last weeks here.
|
Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
Wade is now 33-15 regular season with the Cowboys so it's hard to hate on that record. If Shanahan puts up a similar record I don't think you'll hear many complaints around here.

You better pass whatever you are smokin on! We could win a Superbowl with Shanny and there will still be complaints because we didn't get the 1st round bye or something. |

^^ when you go 4-12 with 2 decent seasons sprinkled in over the past decade any fan base is going to complain.

All fans complain, listen to NFL radio enough and you would think every team in the league blows.

All I can say is "What a difference a year makes". Take a look at the NFC East at the end of the 2008-2009 season...Dallas was a train wreck of dysfunction. Everyone here saw it, the team was falling apart from within and of the 4 teams in the division, the future was most bleak for Dallas. "Take out the trash", TO, Tank, Pac-Man all kicked to the curb. Then it fell to the coaches to get the team moving in the right direction. At the end of this season, now, Dallas is probably in the BEST shape in the division moving forward. You can bet that Phillips got a lot of the credit for the renewed team continuity and that had a lot to do with his extension. |
Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
teams can play the way they want.the only thing i dont believe in is trying to purposely to hurt soemone.other than that it's fair game.i guess his mouth wrote a check his butt couldn't cash.he should have understood that he was really angry with himself and the defense that was going to stomp on the Vikings when they were down.

I'm not that delusional. I realize that this team has far too many holes to be a SB contender in 2010 and 2011. Beyond that, things look hazy for every team. |
Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
I gotta say it, SandTrap Romo is not the guy to get it done for you in Dallas. He is not good enough to be a good QB in the playoffs. He doesn't have the focus. He will win you guys some games I will give him that, but when the pressure is on Wade and Romo fade into the background.
Saying that I do not know what to think of the 2010 Redskins. We may be better, but i don't know how much that will reflect in our win loss record. Next year's schedule is tough for the eintire NFC East. |

There is a QB in the league right now that lost his first 3 playoff games of his career before he won his first playoff game. And that has happened to Romo too. Lost his first 3 playoff games and won his first playoff game in his fourth appearance. And that other QB went on to lose a total of 8 playoff games to date. But he has also won 9 playoff games, a Super Bowl, and 4 NFL MVP's. ....yeah Peyton Manning. After Peytons first 3 playoff losses, people said the same thing about him that you are saying about Romo, he will never win the big game, he won't get it done. It is way to early to judge that. |

The Cowboys are a big market team, with a lot of true/dedicated fans, and a lot of bandwagon fans that make them more noticeable than the Colts back then. I would say right now that the Colts are noticeable because of Manning and not just because they are the Colts. In the end, Indianapolis is not as big of a market as Dallas, Washington, and New York. A QB for the Cowboys, Redskins, Giants, and Jets will always have an added level of pressure that small markets team don't have (except maybe Pittsburgh and Green Bay). |

Lol, I had a feeling after I posted that I would have to explain myself. Abosolutely not! Don't know if anyone could truly compare to Peyton. My point was simply that Manning lost his first 3 playoff games as a starting QB. Also Manning had more INT's in his first 3 years as a starter than Romo. And at the time, many prematurely labeled him as a QB that could not win the "big" games. Oddly similar to Romo who is also 1-3 in the playoffs. The only comparison I am drawing here is saying that being 1-3 in the playoffs does not make one a bust as a QB. It is too early to tell. That is all. |
Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
I'll be honest it seemed that Romo was starting to click in Dec. and really seeing the field but maybe that because of who he was playing against. He then stomped the Eagles and I was thinking this could be his year. We then saw how he played against a good team and I realized maybe the Eagles are not really that good either. To compare his playoff looses to PM is a pretty far stretch and you also have to look at who they played.

I don't have any record books in front of me, but I'm sure you can also find plenty of other solid QBs who started with a losing record in the playoffs and ultimately didn't amount to anything. Peyton is the exception. You're right in saying it's too early to tell. Romo could end up winning it all one day. He could also be Aaron Brooks. I'm hoping it's the latter. |

Concur, the Eagles were over rated IMO. They were not who the sports moguls made them out to be. They made such a big deal about the Eagles finishing the season strong on a 6 game win streak heading into that week 17 game at Dallas. But if you looked at it, the team that Philly beat in those 6 games only 2 teams were above .500 and were struggling late in the season (Denver for example). |

I think he's a douche, but he's a pretty good QB. Here's where I think Romo has failed to adjust. I think it could be totally mental. The speed of the playoffs is a little faster than than regular season games. Tony Romo has yet to make the mental jump from regular season games to the speed of playoff games. Peyton Manning was getting banged up by the Jets in the first quarter then he made the mental adjustment, along with some scheming on the Colts part, and started torching the Jets. That's the difference between a QB who compiles good stats during the regular season and one that can take his team to the big dance. Next season most talking heads will point to the one playoff win as Romo finally getting over the proverbial hump. I believe --I'm hoping-- it was a one off and he'll continue to crumble like the chump he is under playoff speed football. |
Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
manning said about the jets D: he was waiting to get a feel for what they were doing, not trying to force anything. he said if punting the ball is the worst they were doing on offense to start the game thats not a bad thing.
does manning have any flaws? thats a serious question. |
