I think this basically tells me we will be going after an OT with our 1st round pick, the Clausen talk is a smoke screen.

From Jason Reid:

Redskins miss out on offensive lineman Sims

The Redskins lost another free-agent battle Monday when offensive tackle Barry Sims decided to remain with the San Francisco 49ers.

Sims agreed to a one-year contract that could be worth as much as approximately $2.1 million to return to the 49ers for this season, his agent Kenneth Vierra informed Rick Maese in a text message. Sims's visit with the team apparently went well last week, and it was believed the 11-year veteran was choosing between joining the Redskins and returning to the 49ers -- for whom he played 16 games, and started seven, last season. He played the past two seasons under Chris Foerster, the Redskins' new line coach who came to Washington from San Francisco.

If you're scoring at home, the Redskins have failed to sign several second-tier free agents whom they've pursued, including at least three offensive linemen. The Redskins are in need of major help at tackle with the retirement of Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels and the lack of effectiveness Stephon Heyer often exhibited after beginning the 2009 season as the team's top right tackle.
You're conclusion seems pretty logical. Any smart coach/FO would be insane to enter a season w/ our current crop of OTs, especially our lack of a legit LT. Meanwhile we can make due w/ the group of QBs on the roster for at least a year. I'll be shocked w/ Shanny and Co take a QB w/ our first pick at this point.

Yeah, I can't think of a site where you can find more "stuff" then PFT.

Following Adam Schefter on Twitter is better.

Is it conceivable to think the Redskins could start two rookies on the offensive line this year?

I could see that. I could see us probably plugging someone that's kind of been around in at RT or LT though and filling the other with a rookie. Who knows if someone like Heyer could do better with what they'll be doing.
Is it conceivable to think the Redskins could start two rookies on the offensive line this year?
A few years ago, maybe a year before they won the super bowl but not sure, the Colts started 2 or 3 rookies on the o line. They struggled (the whole O in fact) early on but really played well by the end of the year.

Top ranked rookies can start on the o line & play well I think more so than rookie d linemen. I think the reason that a lot of rookies don't play immediately is due to more O linemen playing into their mid 30s, so teams that draft well usually have a few pretty good reserves who are ready to be starters. Of course, that's not been the case here!

Well Trent Williams is the top RT prospect in the first round, but I don't really see us drafting a RT that high. So if go down the road, and quit the fascination with Jimmy Clausen, we'll probably take Russell Okung or Bryan Bulaga from Iowa. Personally I like Bruce Campbell from Maryland, but I don't think he's slated as a top five pick.

I wouldn't mind seeing us move up and take another stout offensive lineman with our first pick in the second either.

This year? Sure. Opening day? Probably not as likely

yeah, i'm just looking at the offensive line and the draft in my head and I'm like, we'll probably get one opening day starter, but two would be nice.

There's a lot to be said for chemistry. The more o-linemen play together, usually the better the o-line plays as a unit. We've had so many injuries the last couple of years and plugged in so many players it's hard to get any consistency. Starting rookies on the o-line shouldn't be a problem if they're any good. It's not so much how you start as how you finish and they usually gell in the second half of the season.

Free agent CB Phillip Buchanon revealed that he's scheduled to visit the Redskins on Monday.

Buchanon was recently released by a Lions team with the worst collections of corners in the league. Should he sign on with the Redskins, he'd be limited to nickel-back duties and perhaps punt returns.

Love that guy. My friend and I use to set up a Madden franchise and one of his favorite players was Phillip "BuShannon." I told him a 1,000 times how to properly pronounce it but it never took.

The guy is a good return guy, but his coverage skills? Can you say toast? Raiders, Texans, TB, Lions, he's no better than Smoot.

Unless Rogers is traded, of course. Not saying he will be. The preference isn't to trade him...but if the Rams want Rogers as part of a deal for the Skins to move up and get Bradford...which I hope doesn't happen. I'd take Bradford if he falls to us, but wouldn't trade up for him.

Not sure I'd sign Buchanon either

he had a great combine, but as far as i know, he will go toward the end of the 1st round or early in 2nd. his tape isnt nearly as impressive as his combine stuff.
Dan LeFevour fails to impress at CMU Pro Day

Opinions of Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour's passing were reportedly "mixed" after he threw for evaluators at his Pro Day.

LeFevour didn't throw to moving targets in Indianapolis, so he needed a big day to motivate his draft stock. However, LeFevour "struggled throwing the ball downfield," which isn't surprising considering his lack of ideal arm strength. Receivers reportedly had to slow down their routes frequently to haul in his throws, with some "out-running LeFevour's deep passes altogether."
