KI - if you cut him he gets what he wants, and MS looks doubly the idiot ESPECIALLY if the 3-4 fails to work. If the 3-4 does work, after a sufficient cooling off period, you put him in like you were going to, in the 4-3 situations and back up Kemo when he needs rest. If AH just never shows up, you file paperwork to get your money back and make him sit out a year. Just cutting him is IMO, a weak lazy response to getting through this situation.
Agreed, no way they should cut him. Go after his bonus and let his ass sit out.

At this point, I want us to NOT trade him and just fine his a** everytime he misses something. I know everyone thinks Snyder is a joke, but honestly after hearing what Shannahan gave AH as options (i.e. don't take the money and we will trade you) and then he takes the money anyway???? Dan Snyder got screwed and that's just wrong, I don't care how you feel about Dan Snyder.

The Skins can get their money back by just fineing his butt into eternity for everything he misses.

I respect London Fletcher and the stuff he has said about AH is probably right on. London wants guys he can depend on and London is a real class act. Wow, AH could learn a lot form London Fletcher.

If he doesn't show up, we can go after him for failure to live up to the contract. What is a waste is to pay 21Mill and then not try to get him to honor it.

Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade

^^ If he "doesn't show up" either figuratively or literallly, he is not going to get his 100M. There are provisions in the CBA that let the Skins recoup their money (I am assuming that the contract incorporates the terms of the CBA applicable at the time of signing even if it is now expired). But if he shows up and goes half assed, the CBA lets the Skins recoup their money. If he doesn't show, he forfeits substantial amounts of the contract.

Besides, do you want to set the precedent that the current Denver regime is following? Whine enough (a' la Cutler & Marshall) and we will send you away.

Nope, pay him to ride the pine and call it a bad business decision. If he doesn't give the requisite level of effort, fine him for everything and anything you can, call him out at meetings & in the press (avoiding slander of course), make his professional life as miserable as you legally can. All the while saying, smiling and telling him daily "hope you're enjoying your money. Now, go sit on the pine."

I understand your position. I think you're coming at this from the POV of how to make the best use of a valuable asset. On the other hand, my POV is that there is a spirit and a unity on this team that we haven't seen for a while and I just wouldn't want to see AH come back in here and upset the apple cart with his bad attitude and lack of cooperation with his coaches and teammates.

He's a bad teammate. He'll never be satisfied with his role. He'll never play the defense the coaches call. He doesn't care about winning, despite his claims to the contrary. As talented as he is, he's not worth having around if he drags down the rest of the team. I don't think he will necessarily be cut. He may be traded for a ham sandwich.

As far as his not showing up for training camp, NFW would he not show up. It's all about the money for him and not showing up would create his first real exposure to losing the $21M bonus. I have accepted the possibility that this POS may get away with stealing tens of millions of dollars from our beloved team but I won't accept the possibility that he could be allowed to continue fouling our locker room with his toxic presence. After all, for me, as a fan, it's all about winning and supporting my team. He doesn't care about either of those things, so I don't want him here.

CRedskinsRule, I know you want AH to "honor" his contract, but at this point he would just be going through the motions and not really be trying, which is what London Fletcher is talking about. Either you are all in, or you are out, I think.

We can also suspend him a la Keyshawn and TO. Then he cannot be a distraction because everyone will know that he effectively is not on the team.

Just as an aside, isn't it possible that Rogers and McIntosh are following these proceedings and watching how the new regime handles things? If Shanahan and Allen are playing hardball with Haynesworth and his 100M contract, you think Rogers and McIntosh might think twice before trying to draw a line in the sand?

Forgive me if someone else said the same thing.
But how is this different from any other hold out from any other team from years past?

We all know the scenario. Player unhappy, player sits out voluntary OTA's, player sits out mini camp. Player demands trade.

Training camp rolls around. Player fails to show for first day. Player fails to show for second day. Player fails to show on third day. Team hits player with fines for not showing up.

Now the holdout is affecting the players back account. Player shows up on day 5, kisses and makes up with cocach. Team waives fines. Player joins team mates on field, apoligizes and swears allegance to team.

Seen it a hundred times in the past (Ochocinco comes immediatley to mind). The player will continue to kick and scream for a trade, calling out the origanization. And at this point what has it cost the player? NOTHING. He is still getting paid, he has not been fined, he is not facing any discipline. He has lost nothing.

Then, when he skips training camp days and NOW it starts costing HIM money, I assure you he will have a change of heart.

If any of these hold out players in the league were truly sincere in the demands to be traded, then, they should buy out the remainder of thier contract. If they really dont want to be there, if money is not the issue, then they should put thier money where thier mouth is and show some good faith on thier part and repay the organization the money they have paid out.

Promise you this is very very rare. I have never heard of this happening except in baseball and basketball. I've never seen it in the NFL.

So I am willing to bet that AH will kick and scream all the way up until he starts getting fined. Then he will have an "epiphany" and report to camp. Just sit back and watch.

I would go one step further. If I am Shanahan, I would actually use the media and teammates to antagonize Haynesworth. I would air all the dirty laundry, call him everything short of a d*&k in the media, and encourage teammates like London and Daniel and McNabb to tell everyone what a shit this guy is.

I would push every button that I could, legally short of slander, and antagonize this guy relentlessly. I would try and make this big baby so furious that there would be no WAY he would consider coming in for Training Camp. Make it so Albert would have to tuck his tail, swallow his pride, and show up for camp humiliated, and I promise you that he won't. He's too big an ego...too much false pride to hear all that smack and show up.

Then, once he doesn't show, I would have firm legal ground to sue for the money and release him outright. He would be lucky to be picked up by a bottom dweller team for an incentive only minimum contract two year deal at that point.

Stick it to him...

Not really. Somebody has to play the final back up DT. Even half assed, fat albert is better than most 3rd or 4th string DT's. It's late in the game, he goes in to relieve the starters for a play or two. Never play him in a critical time, but he still gets 3 or 4 plays a game to be a deadweight.

Oh, and guess who is playing every preseason snap?

Problem is no one wants him here because we know that's exactly what he's going to do. MS/BA and the 99% of players that showed up to all the OTAs are trying to change the culture and put a winning team on the field. Can't do that with a big, fat malcontent on the field.

And what the F does this guy have to complain about, the vast majority of player holdouts concern $$$ and wanting more vs. their production/value (or perceived value). Fat-ass is the highest paid defensive player....ever.
Maybe some of you cap guys can tell me why didn't they just cut his fat ass before he took the 20 mil in April? There is no cap so why not just cut our losses since we didn't give up anything to get him.
The $20 million option bonus would have become guaranteed if we released him before 4/1. It became paid money on that date.

The Shanahan ultimatum is a bit confusing. When he offered to grant Haynesworth his freedom in order to get that money back, he's actually asking Haynesworth to trade in 50(ish)% of his guaranteed money to buy his own freedom...almost exactly like Lavar did, but on a much larger scale. It was more like a: "hey, you're going to be a Redskin for the forseeable future and there's nothing you can do about it...unless you want to talk about giving back you $20 mil bonus."

I mean, we can still release him, but then we owe him all of the money guaranteed in the contract through the first three years, which comes out to (I believe) $48 million ($32 of which has already been paid). If he breaches his own contract though, then we can start to go after a lot of that $32 million, piece by piece.

Sandtrap, this is WAY different than the avg. holdout. The avg. holdout is a guy who is demanding a renegotiated contract, not a guy that just cashed the largest paycheck ever for his position in the nfl. Those guys that "kiss and make up" w/their team in the middle of training camp, usually only do so because they've just signed a new (bigger) contract.

The only thing the skins could do is go back to running a 4-3 defense. EVen then, he was unhappy w/the lack of freedom he had in the system last year.

Adam Schefter said there was a chance that the skins could get some of their money back because this case is "so egregious." How often have you heard that about a player not reporting?

This isn't really a holdout, it's a flat out no-show!

I say trade that POS for a pack of Kools to BP. They can put some floaties on him, stick him in the gulf, and let his fat ass blow all that oil into Cuba instead of Florida. We all know how good at huffing and puffing on his back he is. Two problems solved with one transaction.

In the example I presented, I specifically mentioned Ochocinco. And he did not get a new contract, nor did the team give into his trade demands.

But when camp started and they started fining him, all of the sudden he was the MODEL Bengal, and showed up to camp.

This is not the first time this has happened in the NFL. Haynesworth is not reinventing the wheel.

Until an NFL player buys out his own contract to be traded or released, I do not pay heed to any trade or new contract demands from any player in the league. It is all just noise, that will have no affect.

Just sit back and watch with the other hold outs in the league. Chris Johnson, Revis, Andre Johnson. Come camp time they will play.

I dont see AH any different.

Three days ago I would have told you there's a possibility that Haynesworth would suit up and play against Dallas. After listening to the local radio show, including LaVar's rant (106.7) most of the day, there is no way in hell --NONE-- that the Redskins can keep this guy around. It's been 48 hours of non-stop Haynesworth hate and bashing here in D.C.; the anger is truly palpable. This situation sort of reminds me of when the organization was interviewing Jim Fassel for head coach and Snyder suddenly reversed course and ended up hiring Jim Zorn. There is a similiar backlash building against Haynesworth, but it's far more intense.

I think there's a campaign underway to print flyers with Haynesworth's picture with "wanted for stealing $21 million dollars" and distribute them in the Reston area. Because Dan Snyder is so PR concsious, I just don't see how he risks losing the new image and direction of the franchise by having Haynesworth on the roster for too much longer.

If there's a guy people should be more pissed off at than AH, is this guy. We're in this f'ing mess because of him.

You know what though, for as much of a clown as Vinny is, he makes good points here.

"When he signed, he said he wanted to prove everybody wrong," said Cerrato, the team's executive vice president of football operations during the 2008-09 seasons. "He said he wanted to show everybody that it's not about the money. He said he wanted to be the best that ever played. He said he wanted to be like Reggie White. He said Reggie
White was his hero, so live up to what you said. Don't have it change just because a coach changed."

"I just think Albert should have been here in the offseason, so he would have understood what his role in the defense was going to be," Cerrato said. "I think his perception and what reality is are two different things. They weren't going to just play him at nose tackle from everything that I read. And if he can't understand that then
that's his fault. If he was here, he would know where he fits in. By not being here he doesn't know. All he knows is what he wants to know."

The thing is after initially being frustrated about the switch, he came around to speaking to many of the guys at Redskins Park. Not the least of whom were Shanahan, Haslett, and Allen. And he told all of them, plus several players, hey I just want to help the team win and be the best player I can be. And after multiple conversations especially with Haslett, his attitude was "ok I think I understand what you want from me. I can do this. I like what's going on. I'm excited. I want to get in the best shape possible so I'm going to work out on my own in the spring but I'll be there for mini-camp." And he told that to multiple teammates, and he told it to friends and business partners outside the Redskins. That he had initial frustrations but after talking through it, he felt good.

But it turns out it was all a lie. Which is worse than just saying from the get go you want no part of it. And committing to that. I mean I guess you could argue he changed his mind back, but I'm not sure I buy that.

Look at it like this. As pissed off as Snyder was with Coles; Coles ultimately did the right thing. He spoke to Gibbs and I believe Musgrave and Hixon and said look I don't know where I fit in this offense I'm not sure it's for me. They spoke, he still wasn't convinced. Gibbs said ok, I respect that, let's see if we can find a better situation for you. Coles didn't say ok sounds good. I'll see you in June. And then the whole offseason goes through and suddenly Coles is like "yeah I didn't mean it"

Alls I know is Haynesworth has alienated many of even his staunchest supporters in the past couple of days

I mean did he get the playbook and be like this is what I'll be doing.. nahhhhh.. or did he think more and more he'd not be used much at end? maybe some conversations lead to him thinking that?

because yeah he said he'd play where needed.. maybe he was just refreshed about the new regime so he decided to go along at first and after more thought decided it wasn't for him or what?

that's what I'd like to know

Even the Redskins alumni are pissed at this fat piece of S., including my favorite all time Redskin (Arthur Monk).

Skins alumni pile on Haynesworth

There was no free agency for many of the former Redskins players at Thursday's alumni event during the team's final minicamp practice, Nor were there bonuses worth millions of dollars.

So it took very little for the alums to transition from praising the Redskins new front office for setting up the event to slamming the player currently at odds with those same executives: defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.

Players ripped the star tackle for his attitude and his lack of commitment and did not hesitate to suggest how the team should handle him.

"My two cents worth: Albert Haynesworth needs to get his ass out of town and go somewhere else," said kicker Mark Moseley, the 1982 NFL MVP. "And I think if the Redskins could do that, they would do that. I don't know the background of all of it, the money parts of it, but when you have a player like that that is that disgruntled, get him out of here. He's a cancer to these guys."

"These guys here today are the players that want to play," Moseley continued, nodding toward the practice field. "They're the players that deserve to play and when you have a player like that, I don't care how much money he makes it's not worth having a disgruntled player in here to spread cancer among the team."

Moseley said it was frustrating for former players to see a current star hold out of camp when he has been given $26 million in bonuses after just one season with a team.

Former running back Ricky Ervins, sporting several championship rings, was among the most vocal of the former players. It took just hearing the start of Haynesworth's name for the former Redskin to tee off.

"They should fine him every time he's not here because that is so selfish," he said. "Bottom line. You get paid all this money, I don't care if they ask you to play a 5-6 or a 29, you be in there playing because you do it for your team, you're taking one for your team. ...If you're an athlete and you're talented you can adjust. That's the bottom line."

Ervins wasn't done.

"It's a team game, bro. I heard he just got his check on April 1. He's not here and this is mandatory. I can understand when you don't come to OTAs because it's not mandatory. Okay, great. But when it's mandatory, you gotta be here and he's not here? You've got to find someway to recoup some of that money, fine him when he's not here. I'm talking $100,000 when he's not here."

Asked if it says something that a team leader spoke out, Ervins came back with a resounding 'yes.'

Linebacker London Fletcher's comments speak "for everybody, coaches, administration probably, everybody because he's letting the team down. Because this is a team sport, it ain't track and field when you in there running the 100 by yourself. This is a team sport and we need everybody to make this work."

Even Hall of Fame wide receiver Art Monk, never one to talk his way into anything -certainly not into controversy-weighed in when asked about the situation.

"I don't want to get into all that, but he made a commitment to this team and he needs to honor his commitment," Monk said. "Whether he likes it or not he made a commitment. He should be man enough to do that."
