Why is anyone opposed to trading a 2nd rounder for Jackson? Would you rather have a 2nd round receiver in next years draft? We've already got two of those on our team and if either of them were anything special, we wouldn't even be talking about Jackson. I'd gladly give up next years second and a lower 2012 pick for Jackson. The 2011 draft is going to be one of the weakest in recent memory. Guys will go in the late first next year who would have gone in the third this year. Screw 2011 draft picks if we can land young proven players now.
- The very likely possibility that a cap will once again be implemented. We still have to pay McNabb, Brown, and Trent Williams. Vincent Jackson wants to be paid like Brandon Marshall, when the new cap comes in we'll have very little flexibility. You might see a need at receiver now but we could easily need new LB's (Fletcher) and DL (Daniels/Haynesworth/Kemo is 30+) next offseason. - The best teams constantly have youth coming in and developing. Building for now is fine but eventually we're going to need to have young, economical talent, that allows us to stay competitive for the long haul. Right now we'd be looking at a draft with no 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks and it very well could be that the defense will need more talent after such an offensively focused offseason. As much as I love Fletch, he isn't going to be around forever. - Vincent Jackson himself is obviously a problem child. I'll be the first to admit that he's not as bad as Brandon Marshall, but the guy already has a 3 game suspension and again wants the same contract as Marshall. After the Haynesworth drama, I'm in no hurry to add another problem child. Though with Shanahan and Bruce Allen it won't be a surprise if future players come in with above average character concerns. - Finally, Wide Receiver is a nice to have but by no means a requirement for winning. We already have the same personnel as the Chiefs offense who was ranked no lower then 4th offensively from 2002-2005 (including a 1st place rank in 2004 and 2005) with Eddie Kennison as their best Wide Out. - In conclusion we have a great offensive mind but a sudden shortage of picks next year. We also face uncertainty with the upcoming CBA and could be in trouble financially with a 4th big money player, especially with a player who is at risk to be suspended on an annual basis. |
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
I still like the concept of a three team trade, where we trade Haynesworth to a 4-3 AFC team(or seattle) and they send picks to San Diego and we get Jackson.
I really don't want to give up any more picks. Although, with a potential lockout, and a substantially poorer draft pool due to all the juniors that came out this year AND the likely hood that many juniors will not come out due to the possibility of a lockout (remember they declare their intentions in January). Giving up a 2nd next year would not be the end of the world. |

I have my doubts that Brown will get an extension. His public statements were diplomatic, but it was obvious he views himself as a left tackle and that’s something he won't be here. Also, where do you get the idea that we'll have so little flexibility when the new cap comes in? As it stands now, we'd be about 30MM UNDER the cap in 2011 (assuming it stayed in line with previous caps) with the players currently under contract… and that assumes we keep Portis, Haynesworth, and Fletcher, who will all have cap hits of 10MM, 10MM, and 8MM, respectively next year (info may be a little outdated). My point is, we've got plenty of room to make some acquistions and we don't have a single #1 receiver on the team now. It’s a dire need.
- The best teams constantly have youth coming in and developing. Unless we just got lucky, Vincent Jackson would likely perform at a higher level and stay with the team longer than any player selected in the 2nd round in 2011, regardless of positon.
- Vincent Jackson himself is obviously a problem child.
I wouldn’t label Jackson as a problem child at all. He's got a 3 game suspension for a DWI. Not to be crass, but its not like he's a thug who's out shooting people or battering/sexually assaulting women. Its not like he's one of those players that’s always making the news for being into something. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a stud #1 WR who we found in the late round of the draft, signed cheap, and who'd be a model citizen his whole career, but lets be honest - guys like that are extremely rare to find and I would rather deal with the issues presented from a guy like Jackson than have the acquisitions of Shanahan, McNabb, Williams and Brown wasted because we didn’t have a receiver on the roster who could consistently get open and make plays. Like it or not, the moves we've already made indicate we're not building a team for the future, but a team that can win now. We can either go "all in" and get a WR who can play at a #1 level for the next 7 years or we can gamble with what we have and risk wasting everything we've done so far. And even if Devin Thomas or Malcom Kelly had a "breakout" season and surprised us all and became a stud #1 WR, we'd have to sign THEM to a huge contract in the next year or two if we wanted to keep them. If you want playmakers, youre going to have to pay them eventually.
- Finally, Wide Receiver is a nice to have but by no means a requirement for winning. Other than Cooley, we don't have a single proven playmaker on our offense. We've got a ton of FORMER playmakers, but Cooleys the only one we can reasonably EXPECT to do anything noteworth in 2010. No matter how "brilliant" the younger shanahan may be, he's never had any success as an offensive coordinator without a stud RB and top-tier WR. ok, this is a pretty good point, the Texas have ANDRE JOHNSON We do not, we are not even close, no one can play that role currently on our squad. I agree. If we used a first rounder and got a reciever of Vincent Jacksons abilities, it would be considered a success. |

whats he supposed to do with crappy receivers and crappy running backs? throw to cooley every play? then what do we do when cooleys doubleteamed? we don't have a single running back or RB on our roster that is a genuine #1. we have three #2 running backs and our best receiver is best suited to play the slot at this point. We dont have a true #1 or #2 receiver on our team. We have NO talent for Kyle to work with other than Cooley (and possibly Davis). |

I'm not a koolaid drinker big hair, i think we're a 8 win team this season. But i can't agree with what you're saying here. Santana Moss would be a stud #2 on any team. What is a #2 running back? Are you saying a 3rd down back? We have 3 formerly GREAT starting pro bowl caliber running backs. All just a year or two past their prime(maybe not Larry Johnson by all reports). Coupled with a hungry CP, combined with a lighter workload. Combined again with our new athletic young(albeit unproven) offensive line. Cooley is a stud, and our best offensive weapon. but don't forget that one of those running backs will have more rushing yards this year than he will receiving yards. That you can bank on. Not having a stud #1 WR hurts. But McNabb has made lemonade out of lemons before, maybe he's got some magic left in that probowl arm. Step back from the ledge my friend. |

Don't worry about the running game. Right now we have a team thats prepared to run the most efficient offensive system in terms of getting yards on the ground. We also have a revamped line that will open holes that you and I could run through. If CP, LJ, and Parker were the only option at Running Back I would be more worried. However since they can spell each other we shouldn't have a problem. Also the reputation of running backs coming out of nowhere is well deserved. Obviously everyone knows about Portis and Davis. However take a look at some of the others Orlandis Gary: 1,159 yards 4.2 ypc, 7 TD's in 12 games Mike Anderson: 1,487 Yards 5.0 ypc 15 TD's Ruben Droughnes: 1,200 Yards 4.5 YPC Tatum Bell: 1,025 Yards 4.4 YPC 2 TD's (Mike Bell same year 677 Yards 4.3 YPC 8 TD's) If you had been a Denver fan posting in a forum before any of these years you would have been just as worried as you are now. Also here's the ranks of Denver's rushing attack since 1995 along with their overall offensive rank Rushing Rank(Offensive Rank). 1995 is probably the most relevant to our situation as that was Shanahan's first year without a great option at Running Back and a future Hall of Famer at QB with no Super Bowl Titles: Pre-Shanahan 1994: 23rd (10th) 1995: 5th (3rd) 1996: 1st (1st) 1997: 4th (1st) 1998: 2nd (3rd) 1999: 12th (14th) 2000: 3rd (2nd) 2001: 10th (22nd) 2002: 5th (3rd) 2003: 2nd (7th) - Portis 2004: 4th (5th) - Portis 2005: 2nd (5th) 2006: 8th (21st :() 2007: 9th (11th) 2008: 12th (2nd) Redskins 2009: 27th(22nd) Redskins 2010: ?(?) Also don't discount a guy like Ryan Torain or Keiland Williams becoming the next out of nowhere guy. Still, in conclusion it's very rare for a Shanahan coached team to not be a top 10 rushing team, as shown by the fact that the Bronoc's never finished worse then 12th during Shanahan's time in Denver. |

A good O-line and/or scheme can give even mediocre RBs enough holes that they'll break over the magic 4.0 average. Not saying that our O-line is monstrously talented, but they should be perform better simply because Shanny totally revamped the once-shitty strength and conditioning program that here. As far as I can tell, OL was indeed addressed with the pickups this offseason. Perhaps not as adequately as one would like, but they had limited options. Besides, even Tatum-freaking-Bell had statistically good seasons thanks to the zone-blocking scheme. |
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
I really hope that DT can step up to become that receiver that we saw in the previously posted vids.. it's obvious that he's capable of it athletically. He could be our own Brandon Marshall and that's exciting. Though why balk at having 2 if possible? Think Johnson/Housh, Fitzgerald/Boldin, etc

Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
I would hate to trade a couple high draft picks for Jackson. Shanahan builds a team through the draft.
I also have a size 50 authentic McNabb redskins jersey for sale. 50 bucks. Burgundy. Any interest? |

Remember the trio of Monk, Clark, and Sanders? They each went for a 1000 yards in the same season a few/2 times. I hear tell they were called "The Posse" a mythical group of wide reicievers that this team has not seen for a long time. They won the big one as a unit 2 times. Those guys were good. It is called counterfeiting and is punishable by law. My advice, stop selling $200 jerseys that come from China for $20. You will get locked up, if you keep taking chances. Number on legal crack down right now is counterfeiting. |

Hahahaha i thought this would be a good place to post the jersey I didn't know my post count was something that you guys focused on. I'll try craigslist since post count is what we're striving for on this site. Keep up the good work this is the best redskins fan site I've been on.

The line is still the sore spot and the big question mark. Moss still has it, but his size hurts him as he has indeed lost at least half a step. McNabb was called McChoke many times on this board as an Eagle, not sure why folks all of a sudden think he is going to be a pro bowler automatically during his stint here. Not saying it isn't going to happen, just saying we can't count our chickens before they hatch. |

Post count only really matters when your 2nd post is an ad disguised as a post. Your going to get dismissed on any decent board that cares about adding valuable contributing members. Trying to sell something on your second post is pretty anti-indicative of someone who is going to be a valuable board member. Something to keep in mind. |
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
Oh ok thanks for explaining. 7,147 posts is incredible. I hope some day I can reach that magnitude. Since selling a redskins jersey on a redskins fan site is shamed upon, I'll refrain from the offer. Second, the offensive line better protect McNabb because no QB can play behind that blanket. Right now, our WRs would be good in the MAC. Our stable of running backs is impressive if we were entering the 2008 season. We don't have the backers to play the 3-4 this year, and not to mention the willingness of the Oline. I hope things fall our way this year, should be an interesting season.

Seriously, you better hope your jerseys never get caught up in customs, or worse that you get caught selling them. And that kind of talk does not sound like a Redskins fan. |
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
Well said, FRPLG.
Fred welcome to the board, but if you have been on this site and trolled the threads you may realize that there is good stuff to talk about here. You have four posts 2 of which sold something and 2 of which insulted members. What do you expect bud? A hearty welcome and here is my credit card number so I can get the jersey? Alot of us talk here frequently for skins news and opinions. Some guys meet up before games, and I come here to get some Skins talk being a displaced fan in the SC. Alot of northerns here just not many Redskins fans. were but turned to the Panthers when they got a team. Most locals here care less about the NFL and more about NCAA Football. |
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
I have a size 50 jersey, it's too small I need a 52. I got it as a gift and wanted to offer it to true redskins fans first. As far as getting caught up in customs??? I'm not aware of what you are referring to? I didn't know selling a jersey was a crime? Please fill me in.

I totally agree. I was more perturbed by his ass-hatedness about it when it was pointed out. If he said "Oh man sorry I didn't realize this wasn't the place for it" then I wouldn't have said anything. Plus I didn't see much vitriol. Dirtbag may have jumped a little too hard on him but I think I was pretty even handed. Just tried to explain the line of thinking. Then he started acting like an ass. That's on him. |
