I think it was expected that Rogers would benefit from more aggressive coverage schemes, but Hall has also adapted well to more aggressive coverage schemes. Which is a tad surprising, since every time you let him do his own thing he shies away from contact with receivers.

He's actually quite good at bump 'n run, even if he hates it because it costs him interception opportunities.
los looked good last night i really wanna see more blitz's from him i think that could be his new wheel house, i feel alot better about our secondary after these first few games, i wish i could say the same for landry he still ooks the same, bites hard and not quick enough to recover

LOL! Just defending against misinformation. Trust me there have been times I felt their treatment is off and I let them know. But for the most part, the pro-cowboys, anti-skins mentality just doesn't exist.

Anyhow, back to the game. I was hoping Young or Davis would step up and maybe knock Sellers off the roster. Doesn't look likely now
Didn't Banks fumble a return?
Yes he did. I'm as wowed as anyone by his speed, elusiveness, and just overall explosiveness. But that was the second time he put the ball on the ground in the preseason (first was a muffed punt against Buffalo) and I find that reason for concern.

overall another up and down performance. grossman really wows you and then he does stupid shit that makes you realize why he's not a starter.

also i have to admit that so far i was wrong on galloway. he's been getting open and can still run at 38.

did thomas even play at wr last night?

run d was not good. greene is a bull in between the tackles. very strong inside runner.

good to see albert shows some signs of life

dhall continues to be our best playmaker on defense.

mark sanzhez will get benched at some point this season.

I missed most of the game, so how the hell did LT get that much yardage in such an efficient manner?

I'm not surprised about what I hear about Galloway. Creating separation is about route running and not showing your intentions, and as I have said, unless he's totally senile and decrepit, he likely hasn't forgotten about running routes and he still has a little speed left.

This from AH:
"We talked a little bit more tonight. I think I saved his life from getting hit in the head with the ball," Haynesworth said. "I'm going over to dinner at his house, probably tonight. Gonna sit and have a cigar and talk."
I totally missed this.... what did AH swat a ball away that was headed for MS?

What "stupid shit" are you referring to last night from Grossman? I thought he was on target and very quick with his reads.

One thing I'm seeing from both McNabb and Grossman compared to past quarterbacks is boldness and efficiency in intermediate range passing.

Never thought I would say this but I think we would be ok with Grossman starting a game or two if he has to. His knowledge of the offense really shows right now. And I think he's matured a bit as a player.

Yeah he mishandled the snap, but at least he was smart enough to kick it out of the endzone instead of risking the Jets falling on it for TD.

Everyone needs to keep in mind this was our backup playing against the league's #1 D. I have been very pleased with Rex so far this preseason. He'll be a very suitable #2 QB for us.

I was just giving you a hard time. Our running game so far has not been very impressive and our run D has not been that great against the run. The D has played great when it counted and even though they give up some big playes they have been making some big plays. If I'm correct the first team D has only given up like 12 points in the three games they have been on the field. I also think Austin has made the team and Moss is going to have a big year. It makes a hugh dif. whenthe QB lets the ball go instead of holding on and second guessing what they are doing.

QB is not one of my concerns at all. It is a shame that Beck or Bartel are going to be cut. Both did nice last night. I hope Austin makes the final roster. We really need some new blood at WR. An WR corp of Austin Armstrong Moss Thomas Galloway would be rather productive.

I thought we held our own and then some against the paper planes. We definitely have some areas to address, like stopping the run and getting our running game going. However, I would imagine the Jets feel a tad more panicked than we do at the moment.

I agree about the panicked part. Thing is, if it weren't for Rex Ryan, their expectations would be a lot more tempered. His bloated mouth is writing checks his team can't cash. I can't stand the guy and I hope that team falls flat on it's face.

When we start making our cuts, IMO teams will be grabbing our OF cuts just to learn our OF especially since we have been vanilla last nite we put a few sprinkles on top but for the most part vanilla.

Re: Redskins vs. Jets Preseason game 3 - Gameday Thread

I think the explosiveness in the passing game is the breath of fresh air we as Redskins fans have not see in so long.

Another big difference in the offense is not seeing three and outs. We will be able to get better field position just by getting the ball moved 10-20 yards further dwonfield before we punt.

This game we did get gashed a couple of times in the running game but as I watch it now it seems as though that once the D settled into the game a little we are pretty strong.

OR IT WAS THIS:
Once the big man AH got on the field with the first team the run D is much improved. As much as we all want to bash him for all the crap he has done this offseason there is no doubt that this Dline is much more effective with him out there. MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE. He is very disruptive and is allowing other guys on the D to make plays and be just as disruptive.

Watching the Reair of the game right now on NFL Network.

BTW DHall has a chance to league the league in interceptions this year.

Re: Redskins vs. Jets Preseason game 3 - Gameday Thread

Joey Galloway had a nice game last night, with Grossman targeting him to move the chains. A pleasant surprise as others have said.

Smoot maybe you could run a poll on this question:

Who would you prefer to be your back up Jason Campbell or Rex Grossman?

Re: Redskins vs. Jets Preseason game 3 - Gameday Thread

BTW our second team defense played the end of the first half against the Jets Offensive ones and looked damn good.

Re: Redskins vs. Jets Preseason game 3 - Gameday Thread

Trent Williams is playing very well. He is an aggresive SOB and dealt with some good rushes all night, pushing jets defenders right by the QB and out the play.

Agree with GM on that one.

As far as the Roster goes, I think a guy who really proved himself to be valuable last night was Anthony Armstrong, he played well on teams and also made some nice plays in the passing game.

If this kid does not make it, he will be the next Marcus Mason or Marko Mitchell, hall I guess we could even add Colt the Goat to that as well.

The thing I liked the most about this game was the adjustments we made from the last game, that showed to me that we have the right people in charge we never did that with zorny we never made adjustments. If someone keeps on punching you in the face and you know what he's going to do eventually you block the punch we never did.

artmonkforhallofamein07 08-28-2010 09:36 PM

Re: Redskins vs. Jets Preseason game 3 - Gameday Thread

NYC- That comment you made right there about not making adjustments is the difference between a good coach that can win and sustain a career as a head coach in the NFL and a guy who gets one HC job and doesn't either win or get another job as a professional HC.

I'm not sure you can make that assumption.
Our 3-4 was getting slashed by the run....until....they put 4 or 5 on the line after a quarter or so....did this correspond with Haynesworth playing more...a bit...but I saw a few time Haynesworth single teamed successfully...yes...he penetrated a few times too...and that is good...but he certainly did not look dominant.

What I think is the key is if Haslett learns from this game and plays 4-5 on the line when playing the run. I also noticed a couple linemen from last year that now play LB...when they lined up at end on the line...they tore it up.
Pretty simple...these pass rushers are used to having their hands in the dirt.
I am pretty sure we have yet to establish a rush from the olb position while standing up....this transition is going to take a long time....I hope Haslett doesn't rush it because when we play a scheme close to last year....we do a solid job against the run.

artmonkforhallofamein07 08-28-2010 10:02 PM

Re: Redskins vs. Jets Preseason game 3 - Gameday Thread

SkinsnUt..

That may be a better observation. Did you see Carter and Rak lined up on the left side of the line standing up on a couple of plays? Both came of the edge at once and Rak got a close and pressured the QB at least once.

I agree with the point that it was probably more of Haslett adjusting his scheme a little bit..

AH on the end did cause havoc on a couple of plays well.

I am watching the Dallas game and wondered if MS spoke with Kubiak and had an agreement that they would play their opponents this week and show how to beat them. I know it's preseason but he Jets are picked to be good so we show the Texans how to beat them and Houston plays Dallas to show us how we can beat Dallas.

I know I'm making more out of it but I can't help but watch thinking this could be us week one. ;)

Just watched the game on dvr.Team looked pretty good overall, good to see Galloway make some plays.Still impressed the Banks, when in inserted as reciever hes caught everything thrown his way.I know if he makes the team he probably wont get on the field as a reciever but the skills are there.Run blocking still looks bad,not very many holes.Lt on the jets still looks like he has something left in the tank,I would rather have him than any of our big 3

the only think CP has shown me{last yr}is he could block, his running ability and speed are gone IMO.Hard to tell from this preseason how hes doing since the line isnt opening any holes.

Their 1st-teamers were still in at the very beginning of the 4th quarter, against our 3rd-teamers and soon-to-be-cuts...and we still beat them. It was embarrassing enough that they were still on the field at all...but hilarious that we still beat them.

Glad LJ finally showed up. Parker...nice knowing you.

Galloway looked good...he'll be fine.

D-Hall will be a force this year.

4 TAKEAWAYS! LOVED THAT.
