Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Florida has lots of problems right now. Prior to today the fake punt wasn't one of them (8 of 8 under Meyer before today). Jon Brantley needs to cut his losses and transfer from Florida. If he was playing in an offense like Alabama, LSU, USC, etc, he'd be a star. Trying to fit a traditional pocket passer in the spread is just stupid. Kid was the 2006 Gatorade National Player of the Year. Take those talents to a system that can use them.
This past recruiting class was called by many the best of all time. This team is so young, but for god's sake, change the QB. I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff Driskel is starting as a true frosh next fall. He's a monster. I knew losing Tebow and Co would be a big hangover. Admittedly I didn't think it would be 5 losses. Oh well. The price of reloading I guess. Go Auburn against team Nike. Tell me again, why do you root for Oregon?
Florida is USC of last year... talented as hell but inexperienced and at times poorly management. I don't think they will be that much better next year considering the competition in the SEC. I'm a Duck fan because a) I like their gear and colors, b) how they play, c) I fcking hate the Huskies and their fans and d) because the Ducks are the team Huskie fans hate the most. They are my adopted team and seeing how I have been year for almost 10 years am entitled to have one. I am also a VT fan but after coming out west and not being able to see much of VT games I had choose a west coast team to root for. |
You west-coasters just don't know much about quality college football. West of the rockies, you've got barely a handful of programs worth a shit. Oregon St is paltry at best. They've lost 3 of 4. Stanford and Oregon are quite good. Aside from that, the Pac-10 is kinda ehhh right now. Arizona has slid a bit, and the Trojans just got popped for their fifth loss by Notre Dame. Really it's a two team conference at this point. Even if both Rodgers boys are healthy next week for the Beavers, Oregon should roll. I see no reason why Oregon isn't a 14-17 point favorite at least in that game.
Maybe one day the Pac-10 will sack up and have a conference championship game. IMO as long as the BCS is around, no AQ conference should be allowed to operate without one. Oregon and their grab-bag of hurry up silliness will get quieted by Auburn.
No doubt the Pac-10 overall is weak this year but the two best teams are elite. The BCS and bowl game system really is broken...no way teams like Huskies should play in a better bowl than Boise State. Get rid of auto-bids and bring on a playoff system. NCAA rules stipulate that you can not have a conference championship game unless you have 12 or more teams in your conference. The Pac-10 will in fact have a championship game next year since Utah and Colorado are slated to join the conference (Pac-12) next year. When you see Auburn players' hands on their hips and on their knees you will know how fcking awesome their silliness is. I hope Auburn practices scuba like Cal as part of their defensive strategy. ...ending is priceless: [yt]lW-PecBUQXY[/yt] [YT]Pc4UKD_ex8I[/YT] |

stanford and wisconsin are the best teams in the country on current form right now. id hate be the team playing them in a bcs game. sadly, looks like oregon v auburn in the title game unless an upset or 2 happens. final score if oregon plays auburn 60-52

Throw in TCU above and that the top five teams in the country. Super impressed with cheatin, money grubing Cam Newton and Auburn"s win over the weekend. Damn shame you cant at least get the above nto a playoff...no dominate team, but a bunch of good teams. |

They are legit...they can run, they can pass and they can defend. They aren't just winning they are demolishing. They are for sure the third best team. |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
TCU's defense is what is really impressive to me. they'd be the best matchup for either oregon or auburn imo. auburn-oregon will be a shootout.

You can say the same thing about Oregon but there they are, number one in the coaches poll. It's not TCU's faul their conference is "weak." What I do know though is they dominate all the "weak" teams including the then #5 team in the country. |

Oh, if we're going to knock teams on barley beating teams how about the Ducks barley beating a Cal team which was rolled by Oregon State 35-7? Give me a break, TCU can go toe-to-toe with any team form SEC or Big Ten or Big 12 or whatever other "competitive" conference you throw at them. |

Unless they are playing a MWC team there will be no blowout. |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
TCU is legit. auburn barely beat a crappy clemson team in overtime. they barely beat miss state who is nothing special. oregon barely beat a crappy cal team because of a false start on a field goal. they barely beat a bad kentucky team. so im not buying that argument against TCU that they squeaked by a few teams. they are a very good team. all of the top teams just squeaked by against marginal teams. is TCU's SOS weaker than the SEC's? yes. but they are still legit imo.

I couldn't agree more. TCU is very legit. It helps that they make their home in the recruit-rich land of Texas. But yeah, they are very balanced. |

I don't fault you for it being a west-coast guy. I don't know the ins and outs of most PAC 10 schools. What you fail to realize is that a few years ago, everyone said 2010 would be Bama's year, not 2009. Bama is gonna lose a slew of talent on both sides of the ball. They peaked a year early, and after a 3 loss 2010 campaign, they're losing Julio Jones, Greg McIlroy, Mark Ingram, and a several other starters. Auburn is gonna lose Cam Newton (why would he stick around after a Heisman campaign and all the developing accusations around him), and South Carolina is also full of upperclassmen. LSU may be around next year, but again, they're SEC West. There is no reason that Florida can't be right back on top of the SEC East next year. For as much as they lost from the 2009 departures, they're so ripe with young blue-chips it's almost not fair. Do some research if you don't believe me. I'm not just waxing poetic about my alma mater. As far as Oregon, everyone knows they run play after play with rarely 15 seconds in between. Good for them. It's brand new to college football. They're sporting it well while it's hot, and it may win them the big one this year. I wouldn't be mad if it did. But in the long run I just don't think that style has any staying power whatsoever. But hey, if you win a national title doing it, it doesn't matter I guess. |

They all got the recruits man and these Gator bunch haven't show me they're that more special. I forgot about Arkansas too. Losing Cam is going to hurt Auburn big just like losing Tebow hurt the Gators. I've watched my share of SEC games granted not as much as Pac-10 games. The Gators will probably win the SEC East but after that it's going to be hard to do much. Time will prove me right. USC 2.0. As for Oregon's style, well, so long as that style wins it will stick. You'll also probably see teams implement the visual cue cards too. NCAA is a copy cat league and people will copy what works and wins. |

I'm a bit surprised they parted with Randy Shannon already, but I guess he did have 4 or 5 years. I don't like the U one bit, but they are a storied program with enough of a name/history that they should be doing better than they have been recently. Especially in the weak ass ACC. |

they are gonna be a damn hard team to beat in the big east thats for sure, hopefully bill stewart will actually retire and wvu can get a legit ncaa coach and not a pop warner coach like they have had the past few years so anyone besides me wanna draft cam newton?? he is just heads and shoulders above the rest. he knows when and how to turn "it" on, and he is damn good at it. and his accuracy towards the end of this year has gotten very impresive |

They've tried to survive too long on their legacy. They don't put the resources into their program that are necessary to be a top tier program anymore. When they upgrade their facilities and find themselves a more established coach who can recruit their own state they'll be back. |

I'll second that. He sounds like a punk who was in on it, but from the way the story goes I think his dad set it up so that if he was caught Cam Newton wouldn't get punished for it. Anywayzzzz VT ACC Champs again baby! I'll be the first to say I thought we were done when we lost to a FCS school (JMU) for the first time but this school bounced back in a major way and now we're on our way to another Orange Bowl berth. I've heard reports we'll be going up against either WV or Stanford, and if that's the case I'd def. rather go up against Stanford, because I don't think WV is that much of a challenge. The Big East is a pretty weak conference and Stanford has been ballin' all season. Give me the bigger challenge, especially for this great VT team that's won 11 in a row. |

Va Tech got lucky that Ponder couldn't play for FSU. Woulda made that game a lot better to watch.
WV is not going to be in the BCS. UCONN will.
Yeah, just heard that UConn won and split the Big East with WV, but UConn won the automatic BCS bowl bid for the Big East, so I think it's gonna be VT-Stanford for the Orange Bowl. I knew that WV won but not UConn until a few minutes ago, and I knew that WV was dependant on UConn losing to win the Big East outright and getting that automatic bid. So it's down to UConn or Stanford against VT in the Orange Bowl, and no disrespect to UConn which has won 5 straight, but I'd rather see Stanford. UConn has a severely one-dimensional offensive attack and I'd just like the stiffer competition to see if VT can proudly represent the ACC in the BCS. |

I disagree. I believe that the young guy gave them a better chance to win. I've watched Ponder the last three weeks leading up to this game and he would have been worse off. Obviously the FSU coaching staff agreed with me by not starting him. GM, it just seems like you cannot stop hatin on VA Tech. I gave it up for Florida the past few years. Face it, VA Tech wins year in and year out and this year they beat an FSU team that beat the pants off of Florida. |

Still woulda been the same result. Tech got way to much for FSU. EJ Manuel is gonna be the best QB in Florida for awhile. |
