Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
I agree with a bunch of people on here, We should trade down and get a couple more picks. As much as i dislike the Patriots they do amazing things in the draft and its normally by trading down.
But if we don't and Farley is still there, he would be what haynesworth never was for us. Also I like Newton but he is a project, I'd rather wait till the second round and pick up Kellen Moore, there is no question of his work ethic. But please, please, please, I hope we do not take locker like so many project. He is a good athlete but he is an inaccurate thrower. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Yea, it's overused and I think I say it every year but let's trade down if possible. We need bodies.
Ryan Williams anyone from VA Tech, projected 1st/2nd rounder, injured much of 2010, if he slides into the 2nd? He's got some crazy talent. As I type that, I'm thinking of all of the other areas we need...so nevermind. |

Drafting Moore in the second round would be a massive reach if you ask me. Locker would be much more reasonable in the second than Moore. I like Moore, don't get me wrong, but I just don't know if he'll ever be a true starting qb in the NFL. He seems more like the guy you want holding the clipboard and coming in as a back up. I wonder if he won't end up making a good coach? |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Fairley dominated today
Fairley dominated today
Yup. Dominated. Cameron Jordan might be a more realistic draft wish at DE but it would be sweet if Fairley fell to us. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
You'd really take Jake Locker in the first round just so you can say we took a quarterback in the top ten? For realz?
Do you feel better about the quality of a draft prospect so long as you reach for him? That would explain why you feel that you can't find good quarterbacks later on in the draft.
Not just to say. It depends on other factors such as how the coaching staff views him as a fit in this system and where his stock is at on draft day. Obviously right now it's looking more and more like Locker could easily be a late first round pick. However the main point is if the coaching staff views him as a franchise QB we have to take him. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
i am anti-mallet now. So after viewing game tape....I like Locker and I can't help but be interested in Cam Newton. I can see both sides of the fence but at 6'6, built like a tight end,can run a 40 like a running back and a nice arm...I am sold

Yeah, I know alot of people don't like Moore. He is built more like brees, heightwise at least, which means you have to be worried about batted balls seeing over guys but he is an accurate qb with a high football IQ. I favor accuracy and intelligence in qbs over physical attributes.... obviously if you have both like say Luck, well then you are the number 1 draft pick. I live in Seattle now, have seen all the locker games this year and he just isn't an accurate thrower but I can see Shannahan liking him bc he is kinda like Jake Plummer. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
I only watched a few plays last night(1 pick, 1 sure TD thrown in the ground, and he just looked like he was moving in slow motion), so it certainly skewed my views, but I hope we don't take Newton.

Some Mocks have Dalton in the 2nd, I think he'd be a great fit in our system.. Miller is a stud, but I really want to move down and get more picks. |

Lol idc what he is, the guy can play
|
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Am I the only person with this ominous feeling that Cam Newton is going to be our first round pick? I mean the guy is practically the QB equivalent of Trent Williams and right now no one thinks we're going to draft him.

I've been thinking the same thing but this made me think twice: Cam X-rayed - CBSSports.com Auburn coach Gene Chizik did not elaborate early Tuesday on what could be a significant injury to quarterback Cam Newton in Monday night's championship game |

I'll be less concerned if he scores an 8 or so on the Wonderlic at the Combine. |

I've got a little of that feeling too. I did read one mock that had us taking him. The guy is going to give scouts & coaches fits this spring, it will be so hard for them to not like him while also having doubts about him. He's one gifted dude, but is he ready to play under a demanding coach like Shan.? I would be excited if the Skins drafted him. Scared & excited. |

I dont see Cam falling past Cle or SF

I think SF or Ten takes Newton

Buffalo. or Minnesota in a trade up. |

Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Just watching ESPN first take. And some football pundit just explained why he thinks Shannahan will take Cam Newton. Something tells me he'll be our next QB. The media drama would be a complete circus if Cam came here.

Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Why is Dallas rated better then us in the standings but they get a 9th pick?

Comes down to strength of schedule |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
their division record is better, they are higher in the division standings.
our strength of schedule was harder, we get the lower draft pick. |

It seems to me that Shanny may be more enamored with Christian Ponder, given Ponder's football intelligence. Shanny seems to value that. I'm just guessing here, though. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
You listed 5 teams that need a QB..... 5 good QB prospects in this updcoming draft dont exist. OL & DL should be 75% of our picks. Re-sign Moss, keep AA, work out T. Austin, see if Malcom Kelly will give you anything. Bring back Rogers & Rocky.Let Chris Wilson, anthony bryant, Jeremy Jarmon, Rob Jackson compete for starting positions. We NEED a C and RT....and DL. NO MORE QB TALK UNTIL 2012.....beef up the LINES for a change PLEASE!!!!
I agree with what you are saying. BUT, I am really impressed with some of the QBs coming out this year. Michael Vick's style of play might just be the shape of things to come. Cam Newton is damn good at bettering Vick. He has size, escape ability and a damn good arm. I am more impress with him than Luck or any other QB. Another QB that shows something is Colin Kaepernick, not a first rounder like Newton, but he's on the same mold as Vick, but bigger. Mallet is huge, 6'7" and has good mobility. The only thing I worry about with these type of QBs, is injury to their legs when using their legs to gain yardage. This is a good class of QBs in this draft to take one. But Cam is damn good. Just hope his ego doesn't get in the way with his NFL career. |

You might be right, but he does have an upside - size, good arm and he can use his legs to get out of trouble. Like you, I thought initially that Mallet was a non-factor as a QB option for us. But if you look at some of his highlights the potential is there. But, I know what you are saying and I think that there are others better than him. Maybe you should check out this clip of Mallet and get back to me. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm2ycjlDptY[/ame] |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
2011 NFL Mock Draft has Blaine Gabbert as No. 1 pick - Andrew Perloff - SI.com
I like how this Andrew Perloff has the Skins picking a WR with their first pick. Wow, that would be the last position I would pick. Unless a franchise QB falls into the Skins lap at #10, they have to be thinking OL or DT I think. The often injured Malcom Kelly is still on the roster, in terms of big targets at WR. I say he gets one more off season to try to stay on the field and then he is outa here. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Gabbert is a HUGE mistake if taking 1st..
