He was usually one of the first out on the field and last to leave. Always greeting the fans after practice, always signing autographs. However toward the end of his career I think it came up that fans were taking the items he was signing and selling them on the Internet. I think D. Green got miffed that people were making a profit off of his signature and yeah I think he stopped signing autographs for adults. |

There are a lot of exaggerations in this story about McNabb and about Snyder. Being made a much bigger deal than it needs to be. But I guess that's what happens with this lockout.

Charity doesn't necessarily make you a good person. Even Hitler and Stalin gave to charity. Heck Snyder tried to use his charity events as a get out of jail free card the media. Not saying thats why he did it, but some people don't really understand the concept of charity where the only times you should advertise is when your filling out your tax return or when your story will encourage someone else to give or donate. Unfortunately some people use charity to rid their concense of guilt or to get other people to like them (ie the attempt to buy respect overshadows the actual purpose of a charitable act). Anyway I'm getting off track. The point is you can give to or start a charity and still be a jerk. |

"It perpetuates a maliciously inaccurate stereotype that insinuates those African-Americans who have access to a wider variety of resources are somehow culturally different than their brethren," Fletcher Smith said. Hopkins, the former middleweight champion, has verbally bashed McNabb like a punching bag for years. Hopkins, a Philadelphia native and diehard Eagles fan, has repeatedly criticized McNabb for a variety of perceived grievances. If anything I feel that nice guys get the most chances especially in sports. Basically I said that if you're a talented jerk people will look for any reason to drop you once you loose the talented part while nice people will typically be cut some slack during slumps. Case in point T.O and Randy Moss. Teams love them when things are going right but once things start to get rough they're dropped instantly. Guys like Kurt Warner and BMW on the other hand get chances for as long as they're able to show up. Obviously part of it has to do with their talent/potential talent but I seriously believe that if Warner and BMW were viewed as divas, teams wouldn't have even gone near them. |

Well that's because when the thread started I hadn't really mentioned the Skins' interest in Young...just wait until I tell them they're once again considering Matt Leinart :) (don't worry, it's not likely to happen) But anyhow, at the time Alex Smith was probably the more likely option to just be released. And Young was probably a trade. Now it appears that Harbaugh may actually be genuine about bringing Smith back, while Young is halfway here (at no trade cost to us) |

Maybe not LMFAO but certainly LMAO. For starters the accuracy of both is a push with a slight edge to Young. Both guys seem to be barely 60% throwers. Smith is mobile but Young is probably only behind Vick and Newton when it comes to mobility. Young's arm is elite while Smith has more of a "well he can make all the throws" type arm. Smith has the edge in book smarts (40 on the Wonderlic) but it doesn't seemed to have helped him much in the NFL. Both QB's have vented in the media about being benched but Young's benching was worse prompting him to take a leave of absence. |

I know right? Now I have only 3 or 4 more years of Rookie QB martyrdom/advocacy. It's alright though Beck is going to win us a couple of Super Bowls so we'll just repeat the process with Andy Dalton when we trade for him with some random camp body that we'll be able to resign. Of course our QB situation will still be shaky with Beck retiring to do missionary work so we'll bring in Locker to compete with Dalton. |

His ego is straight up outrageous. Great football player. Great community contributions guy. Crazy full of himself.
Yup, and if you watch the America's Game about the '87 Skins, he practically breaks his arm trying to pat himself on the back time after time. The thing with him is he puts on the smile and manages to not come off like a total cocky bastard. He's got that subtle ego I guess you could say. He's definitely one of my all time favorite players and there's no doubt he's a true Hall of Famer for what he did on the field. As to whether he's a Hall of Famer off the field... reviews are mixed at best. I think when T.O. said "I love me some me", DG could totally relate. |
Re: Skinsfaninok's Available NFL QBs Poll
Ya never know people I guess (D.Green). All I can say is during his early yrs he seemed out going and polite. Always giving interviews. Always signing autographs. I'll say it again, I think something happened after Gibbs and after Turner or late Turner. I think DG learned that people were taking items he signed and were selling them on E-Bay or somewhere and he got all upset. See DG comes from an era when players gave up their rights to their names on merchandise so the only extra money the players got came from commercial deals and signing autographs. Here he is signing autographs and not getting paid for it and the public goes out and sells the signature on e-bay. He got all upset if I recall correctly and refused to sign anything after.
I don't know him personally, never met him face to face, but I really don't recall any of the other players bad mouthing him either. |
Well, OTR spoke to a source close to McNabb who replied “no,” when we asked if there was any truth to this story.
LOL, all I can tell you is that I have a source close to MS who said "yes" when asked if there was any truth to the story. ;) Honestly I don't but you can see how this works. To me it's a rumor. I'm not saying it's 100% true but I'm not discrediting it and saying it's 100% false. Sounds like today is damage control day.
“I find it amazing,” the source continued. “Only Donovan can be accused of being an Uncle Tom and 48 hours later be classified as defiant.”
WTF? I was always under the impression the term "Uncle Tom" was a racial slur to mean any black person who agrees with the white society or goes against black american ideals (if I'm saying it right). What has McNabb done or said for him to be called an "Uncle Tom"?
We asked if Donovan was going to publicly defend himself on this topic and the source didn’t think he would. “No,” the source said. “Donovan will stick with his policy of handling this kind of talk in house.”
Thats one good thing about McNabb, he likes to keep personal business between him and management.... unless he's one the radio.
We still don’t know who would stand to benefit from the wristband story getting out. The Redskins would be stupid to let something like that get out because it would hurt McNabb’s trade value. Is it possible that Shanahan made it up and that’s why Snyder was just now hearing about it? Was Shanahan trying to cover for his son Kyle yet again?
Bingo. Covering for Kyle? I'm confused. KS had a really good offense while with Houston, but their defense was horrid costing them a lot of games. I can't speak for the rest of you but for me, it appeared MS's running scheme was not working so they relied heavily on KS's passing attack. First year under new scheme, combined with no running game I like to think KS did pretty well. Atleast a lot better then Zorn. I don't see any reason to cover for him and yes we would have a lot less trade value if the story got out. |

I don't know him personally, never met him face to face, but I really don't recall any of the other players bad mouthing him either.
Here's what I said a few years back here, based on my personal experience. Let me just say first that I think Darrell Green is one of the greatest players in Redskins (if not) NFL history and he brought all of us Redskins fans many great memories and DG the player is a huge, huge reason that I became a Redskins fan. I will always appreciate what he did for us on the field However, I've never been so let down when I met him, and maybe it was because I had him on such a high pedestal. But anyway, as I've mentioned here before I used to work for a tv station in the DC area. So anyway, when I first joined the station I was told that Darrell Green had an unwritten rule-all interviews with and profiles on him must include at least 30 seconds of talk about his charity, and anytime we interviewed another player about his charity work we had to also talk about Green's charity work. Technically it couldn't be enforced but, as everyone knows, the news biz can often be "rub my back, I'll rub yours", and the last thing anyone in the DC news biz wants to do is get on the Redskins bad side. So anyway, I wanted to do a story about another player's charity work on Thanksgiving. Everything was in place and then we got a call from the Redskins "This doesn't air unless you profile Darrell Green's charity work as well" It never aired. There was just no time to do both, 30 seconds is a long time in the tv world. There were a lot of players who did charity work that no one ever knew about for that reason. This is one of the reasons he was resented in the locker room. Everyone loved and appreciated the player, but there were times when (as I was told by some players) they thought "why does he feel that he can be the only good guy in the locker room." His charity work was and still is incredible, and I appreciate his interest in giving it exposure but it came across much more like "Look at all the charity work I'm doing" than just "look at this charity" Another time Darrell Green was in our studio and one of my co-workers came in to the studio with his 6-year old grandson and asked Green if he would sign his grandson's football. Darrell said "No, what's in it for me?" So I was there and said "the satisfaction of making a young kid happy" And he actually said "that's not good enough". And walked away. At least he was kind enough to give me an autograph when I had asked him for one when I was a kid. But don't get me wrong, Darrell Green has done a lot of good for the community. It's just that he's not the only one, and sometimes it seems like that what he wants you to believe __________________ |
Re: Skinsfaninok's Available NFL QBs Poll
SS, lol. Thanks. You should have pointed out to the Skins how much a 30 sec. commercial costs and or one for the SB, then mentioned that if he wants his plug you'll be happy to give it for that price. :)
|
Re: Skinsfaninok's Available NFL QBs Poll
Ha! Well it wasn't even commercial time, it was content time. So 30 seconds about his charity, meant 30 less seconds for something else. Which basically meant the other story had to be killed
I wish this lockout would just end already, so we can find out once and for all about Young |
Re: Skinsfaninok's Available NFL QBs Poll
SS, sorry for breaking this down seperatly but the autograph issue still brings me back to a time when I think he learned people (fans) were selling his autograph. He was upset about that and stopped. I think he could have singed it for the kid, or atleast provided a better explaination. I'm not defending him. I was not there. He probably is a selfish "me" type of person.
Just like I had Riggins on a pedistal up until he crawls under the table at the white house and hits on "Sandy baby." lol. I still like him though. Thats some funny stuff right there. |
