Above the fact that he cares about life after football and that Andrew Luck has essentially done the same thing you also have to realize that a lot of QB's are improving their draft stock by staying an extra year in school. The rule of thumb for GM's these days is to look for QB's with a certain amount of starts. Occasionally you'll get freaks of nature like Cam Newton that are to tempting to pass up but for the most part having a certain amount of experience will improve your draft stock. Either way a lot of you have to get ready to choose between the likes of Foles and Tannehill. And I swear if one person says wait for next years class I will spontaneously combust right next to you so as to take you with me. The only way Barkley or Jones comes out is if theres some kind of power vacuum at the top with Andrew Luck deciding to stay in school rather waiting three years in Indy. |
Re: 2012 QB Class
Unbelievable, but 8 teams have a worse record than our Skins and 3 other teams have 3 wins. 2nd place in the NFC West has 2 wins half way thru the season. It's way to early but we'd only have at best the 9th pick in the draft.

I know, its crazy to think they are actually worse teams than us right now. The last couple weeks we've played like the worst team in the league outside of Indy. |

Your co-workers at Scouts Inc have him graded as a 4th round prospect. Ryan Lindley QUARTERBACK 68 SCOUTS GRADE Grading Scale 60-69 GRADE 4th Round ROUND EQUIVALENT This player is a good starter at the collegiate level but he is overmatched versus the better players in the nation. He is usually a prospect that is missing something from his game. For example, he has the size and skills to be an outstanding prospect, but lacks the speed. Made some questionable decisions, especially in the face of pressure. Can get through progressions and manipulate coverage with eyes but room to improve in that area. Average anticipation and can be too quick to check down at times. Tough and willing to take the big hit if it means buying receiver enough time to get open." Accuracy - 4 - "Missed high. Skipped passes. Threw behind receivers. Didn't square up and threw off balance rolling to the right though did a better job of it rolling left. Left the ball too far inside and gave defensive back chance to make play on fade route. No question that he can spray the ball around and needs to improve in this area. On the other hand, accuracy isn't as bad as the stats suggest. Put ball on receiver but put too much velocity on some short-to-intermediate passes. Receivers weren't always able to come down with fast ball. Willingness to throw into coverage resulted in several tipped passes. Both of which affected completion percentage. Touch and timing on deep throws over the middle are above average if not elite. Can put the ball where the receiver can run under it when throwing down the sideline. Made 30-yard pass across body early in the third quarter of the 2010 Missouri game. Over-the-top and quick release. Natural and relaxed follow through when footwork is sound. Pocket Mobility - 3 - Foot speed is slightly below average and took a split longer to set than most quarterbacks when dropping from under center. Actually, I'd say he's probably a late 2nd/early 3rd at this point
If we were to draft to qb outside of the first round it has to be Kellen Moore. Ryan Lindsay had all the physical skills, but he's just not all the good. I think Kellen Moore will be a much better prospect. When I look at Kellen Moore I see a guy who's extremely accurate with the football. The only thing that's keeping him out of the top 5 of this draft is size and arm strength. I consider both to be overrated. This guy is an outstanding passer and if we can get him in the second or third round I would happy. I think he's the second coming of Drew Brees. |
Re: 2012 QB Class
Lindley is a four year starter who has struggled three out of four years at a low level of competition. Guys like that have a place in this league, but when they have to play, they usually turn out somewhere between Derek Anderson and John Skelton. Can't spend a pick on that when there will be better players in undrafted free agency.
I think Kellen Moore is a better pro prospect coming out than Andy Dalton. The problem with Moore is that six foot guys simply can't be used in the same way that six five guys can in the NFL. There are about 12 passing systems in the league where Kellen Moore is a bona fide first round talent. Of course, none of those systems are struggling to find quarterbacks. Those are the ones that employ Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Freeman, etc. There are two teams who may be able to get first round value out of Kellen Moore who don't have an obvious long term solution to the QB problem. Arizona and Miami are running offense that could make Kellen Moore a star (though if either fires their offensive staff, all bets are off). He's probably a second or third round project to the Redskins. |

Re: 2012 QB Class
I posted a scouting report of Kellen Moore on the previous page. The part that attracts people to him are the high marks for Mental Makeup, Intangibles, production, and short accuracy. The thing that kills him though is the height and marginal arm strength. It's just one of those things where if we draft him I'll assume we saw something in him and he fits the mold of what we need but otherwise I'm expecting him to be a third day pick.
I tell you what though. If he had to play an SEC team he would get absolutely destroyed. [YT]CoP1hFnrfGU[/YT] |
Re: 2012 QB Class
I like Tannehill. I wouldn't spend a high pick on him or start him right away. And I realize he is short on experience. But he shows good mechanics, a good arm, a reasonable football IQ, and very fine mobility. I think he has a bright future.

Re: 2012 QB Class
There are several top college QBs that I like. Since Andrew Luck won't be drafted by the Redskins unless Shanahan gives away lots of draft choices to put the Redskins in the number 1 slot to get Luck, then Landry Jones, Robert Griffin III, and Matt Barkley are definitely next in line after Luck. Griffin III has a brilliant deep ball, pocket presence, can scramble with great running ability, his super accuracy, and very athletic. Barkley is very accurate, doesn't throw many interceptions, can scramble, plays in a pro style offense, is a field general, a team leader, and has the ability to hit his receivers in stride. Jones is a gifted QB. Although his completion percentage is down a bit this year, he's still a great passer with excellent pocket presence. He can hit the deep ball. Jones doesn't scramble much, but he can tuck it and run if he has to.

Re: 2012 QB Class
I don't follow college ball, but I will say this random thought. The "disadvantage" of the spread offense is hardly substantial enought to cause a QB to fail(aka, it's mostly BS). It's just a lack of knowledge and muscle memory. If the QB's brain is not pliable to make the transition, he's got bigger issues than the offense he ran in college. Guys like Sam Bradford and Cam Newton came out of the spread and they are doing just fine.

Re: 2012 QB Class
Case Keenum in the 2nd. Dude had more TD's two weeks ago then both our QBs has had all season long combined. Plus has a 68% completion percentage over his entire college career.

Notable QB's to come out of Houstons offense: David Klinger Andre Ware Kevin Kolb Graham Harrell (he didn't go to houston but Houstons offensive coordinator is a disciple of Mike Leach and admits they use texas techs offense.) Colt Brennan (same offense, different team) |

SIDENOTE: I was looking at their next article on fixing the 3-4. I don't know why Haslett hasn't adopted Wade Phillip's 3-4 NT scheme. Cofield would excel as an attacking NT the same way that Ratliff excelled in Dallas. |

we have more pressing needs than a center in the 2nd. i like montgomery there.

Re: 2012 QB Class
Not sure who the O-line culprit/culprits are...........but we need to add a dimension of domination to our running attack as our guys cannot get any push against a quality D-line .
GOT to have some help of the C-back variety..... |
Re: 2012 QB Class
we have more pressing needs than a center in the 2nd. i like montgomery there.
We need a true Hog at Center and that would be a great choice in the 2nd round. A starter on the line for years which is what he would probably be is never a waste in the 2nd round. Especially at Center. Unless he is there in the 3rd. But he won't be. We would be lucky to get him in the 2nd. He is the top rated Center coming out and is a good one. I hope we get him and Barrett Jones some how. Our pressing needs are the OL. |
Re: 2012 QB Class
I like the 7 round mock draft, but like other people said, we don't need a center as much as we need a CB, or ILB, or 3-4 DLineman, or OT, or OG. I do like that pick of the alabama corner in the 3rd(or 4th) round, because he doesn't play much behind future first rounders, which can turn out to be good picks. Plus I didn't see a good receiver on their...they need to come out with a free agency target list for the skins.
EDIT: Griffin may not even come out. |

Re: 2012 QB Class
I also read fixing the 3-4 defense. Whoever wrote it was super insightful. I also like what he had to say about McIntosh and his blitzing.
Yea i mean i like all the OL but the center pick is iffy for me. Idk Brewster is a beast but idk if Montgomery is worth keeping instead. |
Re: 2012 QB Class
Our OL really isn't all that bad but we do need some depth of course
|
Re: 2012 QB Class
That would be a very nice draft, IMHO. Hopefully, our actual draft will look something like that depending on which needs we fill via free agency. The author seems to know the Skins well right down to the type of OL's we would want.

Re: 2012 QB Class
I know he's not draft eligable but how about Casey Pachall out of TCU. After seeing the success that Andy Dolton is having TCU quarterbacks are looking pretty good right now. He just carved up Boise state to the tune of 400+ yards and five-ish TD's. He's having a good year completing 68% of his passes with 24TD's to 6ints, oh yah and he's 6' 5" and 220.
