Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
I think CB might also be slightly more pressing than S and we very well migh draft at least one high.
1. Blidi Wher-Wilson 6'1 190 Conneticut-(2/3rd) Obviously would be a preference in the 3rd but I would pull the trigger in the 2nd depending on how the draft unfolds. But this kid has size and is a good cover corner but will also lay the woord. Not to mention hes a 2 time team captain which we all know Shanny likes. 2. Desmond Trufant 6'0 180 Washington- (2/3rd) Im kinda a sucker for bloodlines and this kid has em. Great cover guy who isnt scared to hit you. 3. Tharold Simon 6'3 195 LSU- (3/4th) Those of you that like the honey badger this guy should be on your radar too. great size and less time to shine with a DB field like what LSU has had, but a solid mid round pick. 4. Brandon Mcgee 5'11 190 Miami- (5/7th) Great athleticism and one of the highest rated CBs out of high school, this kid has a tone of ablility and has been holdin it down at the Shrine practices. Skins also interviewed him personally earlier this week. |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
Changing my mind if we go safety in the 2nd I really really hope DJ Swearinger is available from South Carolina. Please watch some film on him, the dude is everywhere and plays relentless and also has good hands. monster
2-5 I like. Haven't seen 1.
Heres a name to remember (popular one thats been mentioned before) Kyle Long G/T Oregon. Potential is HUGE. He went from 2nd string to arguably the Ducks best lineman by seasons end. Could be an eagle though with Chip there now.
I like Longs potential alot. After all his brother and dad have said he is the most physically gifted of all of them. But he does have crazy upside and good football IQ. He is actually the guy who made Menelik Watson change positions from DL to OT after going against him in practice. Only knock is that he is a bit of a wild man off the field that likes to party and might have a few screws loose. But he is a guy to keep an eye on. |

Swearinger is a very under rated FS. The second actually might be a lil high for him right now. He mostly projected 3/4th as of now but i do think he will rise in the pre draft process. But ideally grabbin him in the 3rd or 4th would be great value and somebody in this deep safety class will fall. |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
Get younger on D in this draft. Maybe draft Rhodes for secondary he could also be our return guy, which we are in desperate need of, D-Line is OK but getting old, Michael Mauti at ILB later in draft. improve offense with FA. Reggie Bush for 3rd down back and spell Morris . We have our speed receivers, but we need the big physical receiver. Denario Alexander would give RG III a big target unless we can snag RG III's guy from Baylor Mel Kiper's #1 WR in the draft so I doubt it. Get Clady or Vollmer for RT.

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
I'd like to see us go after a safety and corner with our 2nd and 3rd rd picks. I'd wait to look at RT later on, or just continue to develop Compton and re-sign Polumbus. This draft should be heavily focused on the defense.

I agree pending what happens in free agency. If we land a starting corner in FA I could see us using the draft on safety, OT, TE, LB, DL ( best player available order after safety). Still can't believe Shanny kept so many safeties during the cuts and we still had so many problems. I'm hoping that we really only need 1 guy to come back strong and one new starter to shore up the back end. |

Yeah I agree with Safety and Corner with the first 2 picks. On the offense, Id still like to see us at least add a RT and RB in the draft. I know this sounds crazy, but a late round WR wouldnt hurt either. |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
People sure do love themselves some WRs... and then get irked when Shanahan actually drafts one. I think we're kinda set in that area. Taking a later round RB wouldn't shock me though.
|
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
A late round WR would not surprise or bother me, especially if that WR had return abilities. But certainly WR is not a priority.
I think Matty's idea of using our first two picks on the secondary is a good one. If we used our #2 pick on a S and ended up with someone like other safeties drafted in the second round such as Nick Collins or Eric Weddle, the defense would markedly improve. |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
Yeah WR not really a priority but Hank and Robinson may need pushing by another young guy. Moss was good this year, does he come back with that cap number? Or we could sign Jabar Gaffney = problem solved
|
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
Honestly, I think this year we need to draft some atheletes.
That is why I am open to taking a WR especially if we take someone like Travon Austin of WV, Denard Robinson of Michigan, or Ryan Swope of Texas A&M. This player would eventually compete to replace Moss. Helu can have an impact when he comes back so no RB. As long as he still has some speed On defense, our secondary needs some youth. We have to make a play for Tyrann Mathieu, Desmond Trufant, Matt Elam or Phillip Thomas. I think ole Ray- Ray can come as a UDFA. I also hope Rolando McClain is released because signing him while LF is here would get his career back on track IMO. He was a tremendous talent when motivated. |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
Last years shrine game star was a RB out of small school Florida Atlantic. He went on to lead all rookie running backs and finished second in yards behind Adrian Peterson. I suggest you all check out a little bit of the shrine game on right now on nflnetwork to see a potential redskin or star rookie like Alfred Morris was.

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
I'm biased but earl watford from jmu fits our offense perfectly. Tall lightish athletic guard who is known as a tactician. He s literally the exact type of guy that fits the ZBS. Doesn't have the versatility that we seem covet though.

This might belong somewhere else, but has anyone seen any news on Chase Minnefield. I really liked him coming out and think he could be an answer at CB if he is able to come back. Thus saving us a draft pick early.

barring setbacks he'll be ready for otas and camp. He had the same procedure as Griffin just without the LCL repair. Left knee patella graft onto right knee ACL

Any combo of Eric Reid, Baccari Rambo, Phillip Thomas, Tyrann Mathieu, David Amerson, or Xavier Rhodes would satisfy me. But, I want Mathieu the most. |

You do know that Reggie Bush isnt a 3rd down back only? He is a full time back. Helu is our 3rd down change of pace back. |

Bush is more of a 3rd down back than a every down back. Think Sproles. Yes, I do realize he is being used every down, but he's really not suited for that. There are very few "every down" backs out there. (Ex: LT/Portis/Terrell Davis/Faulk/E. Smith) |

100% agreement from me. Theres something about this Mathieu guy which I love. I still say worst case that if Mathieu is a liability in coverage, worst case he is still a great returner and blitzer out of the nickel. I love xavier rhodes, but he's going 1st barring an awful combine (same can be said for Eric Reid). And as I mentioned earlier, the cowboys are in perfect position to build LSUs secondary from last year. They have a mid first now (where Reid is projected to go) and have a need at FS. They already have Claiborne. They can easily get mathieu to be that fiesty zone CB since their moving to a 4-3 tampa 2 defense. Add in simon and they can have 4 of the LSU guys. Btw I watched a little bit of the East West Shrine game and 3 guys really stuck out to me. Devin Taylor South Carolina a 6'7 270lb DE/OLB who is fast and obviously tall and can bat down passes left and right. He looks a lot like Pierre Paul. Cooper Taylor a 6'4 220lb FS out of Richmond. He played well, but with his size and some coaching, definitely some potential there. Matt Evans New Hampshire 6 230lbs MLB 3 time Buck Buchanan finalist, 1 time winner. And 3 time FCS all american. Earl Watford JMU Guard- I didn't see him play but hear good things about him. David Bass Western Missouri State DE/OLB--Same as watford |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
I think one of the first two picks will need to be spent in the defensive front seven because that area is so critical to the success of the overall defense.
The other probably will be spent on the secondary, but I wouldn't rule out an offensive selection either. |

1st REDSKINS DRAFT NEWS OF THE SEASON:
Your first draft nugget/news about the redskins is that we talked for a very long period of time to Lane Johnson LT out of Oklahoma, according to Tony Pauline SI.com draft expert. Lane Johnson is a very athletic tackle who is a former TE. He did very well against Demontre Moore of Texas A&M who is considered to be a top 10 pick. Could he be a replacement on the left to move Trent to RT? Or is he a RT? The point is Polumbus, judging by our draft scouts high interest in the OLineman at the senior bowl [and Lane Johnson], doesn't look like he'll be starting here next year (no big shocker) Heres some more senior bowl stuff: NFP Previews Six Defensive Players in the Senior Bowl. | National Football Post Eight offensive players to watch in the Senior Bowl | National Football Post 2013 Senior Bowl Measureables | National Football Post |
