Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

If Brady, and Manning and Brees and Griffin and Rogers are all out from low pocket hits then a lot less fans will be watching and the NFL will become boring without its stars.
You have to keep the starting QBs on the field or the NFL will suck.
These guys MUST be protected, its a necessary evil.

Incredibly stupid if you ask me. If he's truly ready, fine. However, I have a feeling we'll be seeing him skip a few processes and going directly to GO.
Why are you ok with below the waist hits on QBs or blowing up WRs over the middle, but against horse collar tackles?
Because those hits had no intent. It's freakin' football, guys are going to blow out their knees. So whenever a star gets hurt there has to be a new damn rule?? There's TOO MANY damn rules! If you look at the hit on Brady the guy was already on the ground. What's he suppose to do? Get up and then hit Brady between the numbers???? That's ridiculous!

I'll say this one more time. Blowing up wr's coming over the middle is part of the culture of football. That's why we all LOVED Sean Taylor. It's the intimidation factor. Now... you have to let the guy CATCH THE BALL, let him make a "football move" and then hit him. Now if you agree with that rule then so be it. Maybe you'd prefer to watch flag football. But to me, that IS NOT football. Week after week we hear former players laugh at the rules today. The rules are too one sided and to me that's BS.

If fans still wanted 6-3 games that involved as many ambulances as footballs. If the consensus as to what was called a "great game" was 10 passes a game with 6 of those having the QB get clubbed across his head from behind sending his helmet spinning on the ground and his brain spinning in his skull. Something tells me the NFL, even with the safety of the players talk, would try to emulate that style of play.

Since the money for the NFL today is in 35-31 shootouts with QB X throwing for 450 yards and 5 TD's and QB Y throwing for 350 yards and 3 TD's, player safety trumps all.

Its gotta be about safety and not money... Right? 18 games per season doesnt mean more money but does mean more safety...

Kind of apples and oranges here.

In the Seattle game he probably knew he was going to need surgery after the season. He gutted it out when he probably shouldn't have, lesson learned.

Recovering from a 2nd knee reconstruction with an entire season in front of him is a different story, I think he's going to approach it a bit more wisely.

Have to learn your limitations somehow. Give the guy a break. This was his first season in the NFL. I believe he now understands what he can and can not do with regards to sacrificing his body. His knee is a result of what he can learn from. I think he will be much smarter with a season under his belt this year.

I wasnt trying to disagree with you. I think what the majority of fans want ends up winning out. And as of now, that is shootouts. So protecting the QB and making it a pass happy QB/offense driven league wins out and thats the direction that the NFL is taking.

I wasnt meaning to say you wanted a 6-3 game with what I was talking about in that post. I was meaning it as if thats what the majority of fans wanted, the NFL would move that direction as best they could among the lawsuits and talk of player safety. If bringing back defense to make it fair for both sides of the ball actually brought in more money. The NFL would move that direction imo.

I hope for our sakes you are right. I personally don't trust the kid when it comes to his own health. I think he still feels he has to prove how "tough" he is, and that he'll readily rush out before being truly ready. You can't trust him, not after that fiasco. I have a feeling Shanny doesn't trust him either concerning his own health.

Not sure he's any different than the of any of the greats that have played the game. Ask any Hall of Famer and they'd all probably say they wouldn't leave the field even when hurt. Remember Favre against the Saints a couple years ago in the playoffs? Can anyone imagine Favre saying that's it, I had enough and pulling himself out of the game? I don't think so.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

Good point Matty.

It all falls back to the mentality of football and of the football player. The coach is responsible for removing player x, but at what point? Hindsight is 20/20. If he miraculously led us back in that game at the end and afterwards we were told he won the game with torn knee ligaments he would be even more of an icon. QBs have done it before.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

Keep in mind people that RG did this recent commercial for money, not to prove a point. Derrick Rose did the same thing, he was trying to sell stuff for Adidas. Samething for RG3 I know his ego and image is big, but he's a smart kid who knows that his 10+ year career of making money will end before year 5 if he rushes his major surgery and gets hurt again. I agree to an extent with NC Skins about RG trying to prove his toughness, but I also think his dad, his coach, his owner, his teammates, agent, girlfriend, Adidas, Gatorade, and so on are saying dont rush it.

I think the big difference between older, HOF quarterbacks and Griffin is mobility. Favre was not a huge run threat like Griffin was. If he got hit and bruised it was in the pocket. With Griffin on the run it lends him to put himself in more vulnerable positions to get himself injured. Favre can flop in the pocket and get hit easier than Griffin can on the run in a full sprint.

The issue here is Griffin running and going for that little bit extra instead of sliding and being protected from hits because of rules against hitting sliding quarterbacks. If Griffin would have slid instead of getting lit up by Haloti Ngata, his knee may never have been an issue. He just has to make better decisions finishing runs. If his tweet about not jeopardizing his career is serious, he needs to start with finishing runs smarter.
