Shanahan: Redskins are not restructuring Santana Moss' deal at this time. They're talking to many players about restructuring. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Watching the presser right now.
Shanahan just said we are one million under the cap. |

He also hinted that we may have room to sign one or two players in free agency.
But he sounded a little despondent as he said that. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I hope they resign Polumbus. To me he's the Offensive Tackle version of Ryan Clark. The type of guy we won't appreciate until he's gone, because while he never got the praise of guys like Silverback or even Montgomery he didn't get the hate that guys like Heyer got either. The fact that he was barely noticed makes him ideal granted he doesn't go crazy during negotiations.
Mike Jones @MikeJonesWaPo I'm told negotiating process has resumed between #Redskins and UFA Lorenzo Alexander. Sav Rocca, Polumbus, RFA Chris Baker still waiting Retweeted 19 times Expand Reply Retweet Favorite More |

|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Didn't we have a kid in pre-season that could have went in the 2nd round but we signed undrafted because of injury? He was a CB, I think Minnifield was his name? Is he under contract still?
Maybe he can fill the void from D. Hall? |

He gets beat pretty often, enough so that I think he's the weak link on the line, but he's good enough that if we were in a pinch, he could stand in. I appreciate dudes like Chris Chester, who never got his named called. So I don't expect T. Williams type of solidity, but if you can be average and not let dudes completely run past you, (like what often happens when Polumbus is against someone more agile than him) I'm cool with you. |

Maybe he can fill the void from D. Hall?
Just real quick I got to get my annual I hate Corners rant out of the way. Corners suck. They're prima donnas who can't catch and they play to far away from the ball to justify their current rep especially with the increased emphasis on Tight Ends and slot receivers. Give me a great safety over a corner any day. *end rant* With that said corner is one of the safest positions in the draft, right up there with offensive tackle (:cussing: of course it's safe, they're only involved in 3 or 4 plays a game). On top of that theres a HUGE cluster of corners with 2nd and 3rd round grades. Scouts Inc has 6 CB's with 2nd round grades and 8 CB's with 3rd round grades. Now granted there's only one corner with a 1st round grade so a couple of those 2nd round guys could be reach picks near the end of the first round but if we're looking for a corner with one of our first two picks, well safe to say it shouldn't be much of a problem. As for Minnifield, could produce, likely won't. Top two reasons for players being a bust at the NFL (not that Chase is much of a risk to be a bust as an UDFA) are character concerns and durability. The odds are not in his favor, especially seeing as how he went undrafted despite his considerable potential which means teams might have been scared stiff during the medical part of his evaluation last year. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Carriker's deal pushes $1.4 million in salary to 2014, and re-categorizes it as an incentive. Basically, Carriker needs to hit incentives to get paid full salary for this year, and if he does hit them, we lose $1.4 million off our total cap pool next year. If he doesn't hit them, money is never paid, and is never reflected on the cap.

As a long time (sometimes over zealos) critic of Shanny, I'll take his word over Mara and Goodell's any day of the week and twice on Sunday. But what's done is done. I think the FO is managing our situation damned well, assuming RT and FS performance improve over last year. |

I think the FO is managing our situation damned well, assuming RT and FS performance improve over last year.
I echo the first sentiment. Secondly, I think they're already improved at RT over last year, assuming you mean marginally improved. Whether or not they re-sign Polumbus as the backup or just give the swing man role to Maurice Hurt, the idea is that Tom Compton is going to have to win the job at RT. I don't agree with skimping at the right tackle position, but knowing that our lack of resources are going to create a deficiency in at least one area of the team because of limited salary cap space and draft picks, I understand a Tony Pashos/Tom Compton camp battle to be a starting tackle (loser misses the roster). It's just imperative now that we take our two day 2 draft picks and enough salary cap space to sign about two quality free agents, and fill the three remaining holes (TE, CB, S). To be honest though, if Davis re-signs, they should be able to address all three in free agency, and in position to just draft the best player available. |
Shanahan has passed on Ryan Harris 2 times now, is the 3rd time the charm? Probably not
I have a gut-feeling the 3rd times a charm this time around because of the lack of salary cap to work with and he would be an affordable upgrade over Polumbus. And it doesn't appear that they are really putting priority in re-signing Polumbus. Also this time around, there may be less competition for Harris's services since there are a number of Offensive Tackles available in free agency and the Texans don't appear ready to re-sign him. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
@Mr_KevinJones: Team source: Texans OT Ryan Harris likely will be a target for #Redskins, as early as this week. Shanny drafted the 28-year-old in 2007
Don't know how legitimate this is, but it's a good sign to me.. |

It could be a smokescreen to get Toler or Cox. I've read the Pats are also interested in signing Cox. But the way the press conference went today, it's probably a smokescreen for Biggers or Mack. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Signing Talib will require cutting at the very least - Moss.
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I think there's some real interest in Talib. There's also probably some talks with some other corners too. But I think there's some legitimate push in signing Talib especially from the coach that developed him as a player.

It could also be to make New England over pay for talib have less money to sign guys like Welker and vollmer as well as 2nd tier guys like Chung and Arrington, Arrington we supposedly have interest in.

Talib sucks.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
If we cut hall for talib well regret it. Not for releasing hall so much but for immediately replacing him with talib. If we do I hope its a 1year deal. We might have to if we want to contend now but we should hold our money and go after the top sure bet in FA next year.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
the man doesnt suck, hes good at playing the ball. Quite on honestly he is better than anyone we have on our roster to replace Hall now. I wouldn't overpay but i would keep an open mind with everyone including Talib. Raheem has dealt with him first hand, I trust his opinion. P.S. Where is SmootSmack when you need him, Since I signed up for this forum a few years ago now, this was his time of year! miss you buddy wherever you are.
