Alrighty then.
How about we move on and talk about something other than the 3rd string QB? I really liked B. Jenkins, I think he could add a new dimension to the pass rush.
Thanks for moving the discussion forward... The alignment that got Kerrigan his sack could be incredibly tough to block.. Jenkins coming off the edge, Kerrigan at DE against a guard, Tapp with his hand on the ground against a guard and Orakpo off the other edge. If we can generate a consistent rush with that 4 it makes the job on the back end that much easier. I'm admittedly in the minority but Helu is still a 'prove it' player to me. His vision and RB instincts are sub par. He's got great feet and speed but the difference between him and Morris or even Royster in understanding where the hole is, where the cutback lane is and when to wait for it is night and day. I hope some of it was rust but it was an issue in '11 also. From the Titans side, Jake Locker=Jason Campbell. He is their version of Captain Checkdown. I think he will be what keeps them from being a decent team. |

Locker is bad. I won't be shocked if Fitzpatrick ends up starting at some point. |
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
Jenkins looked good at FSU. I was glad that he fell and hopefully he stays healthy. He definitely allows the coaches to be more creative, will be interesting to see if they find a way to play Rob Jackson (when he returns), Orakpo, Kerrigan, and Jenkins all at the same time.
Unlike the safeties the young corners were impressive last night. Amerson looks like he can turn into a solid corner and looks to have extremely long arms, which is a huge advantage against the bigger receivers, like Dez Bryant or Hakeem Nicks. |
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
Crawford, Amerson, and Minnifield could be our future at CB...all starting next year.
|
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
I liked Jenkins too. It got me thinking - After game 4, on 3rd and long: Rak, Kerrigan in a 4 pnt stance with Jenkins and Jackson standing up. Cofield and Bowen slide into the tackles.
The only thing given in that scenario is the inside rush. Bring four and drop Kerrigan and Rak into coverage. Bring 4 leaving Jenkins and Jackson in coverage. Bring 5 dropping one of the four in coverage. Bring all 6. If Jenkins keeps improving and can work on coverage and plays in space - that has the potential to be a scary nasty 3rd down package. |
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
Really, outside of O-Line and ILB, you have to love the depth on this team.

I think the Redskins still have a lot of unanswered questions at safeties and DLine in terms of pass rush, but I agree with the other positions. |

I was trying to find how many starters the Titans held out/were out due to injury. Remember that we had 6-8 day one starters sitting out. Our depth is really very good, and that will be critical as the season goes on. |
Lance Lewis was everywhere it seemed.( only had one catch but still) Hopefully he continues to play good. I saw moss catch a slant, what a gamer, dude always plays No matter pre season or not. Love that dude

I almost included safety but think we will be okay there, not great but good enough a lot depends on Merriweather. If he comes in healthy, that makes a huge difference. If Merrieweather comes in healthy AND T.Jax comes back. Well, we're good to go. As for the D-Line and pass rush, I am just not worried about it. Rak's back and that will be HUGE. Even if he doesn't get the sacks, his presence opens up soo much. Add in Kerrigan, Jackson and possibly Jenkins, we will consistently generate sacks with a 4 man rush. |

Yeah, Moss is a baller. He's getting older, but he can still play. Right now the guy I'm most concerned about is Brandon Meriweather. I hope he can come back healthy and play as well as he did at the start of last season(in the little bit he played). Just having him back would significantly improve the defense. And with the good things I'm hearing about Amerson, Minnifield, and Crawford, our secondary should be good to go. |
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
Rak looked like he's worked on some new moves. Loved how he dipped and got low on his sack.

Let's not get carried away.. Crawford's ceiling is probably a very good dime or nickel back, maybe a spot starter.. Minnifield could be a starter someday but his health will always be a concern.. Amerson has stud potential though.. |
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
Liked how we looked for the most part, didnt see the whole game tho
|
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
I wasn't happy with the RT or OL depth.
I was very happy with the LBs and DB depth... i think we'll see a bunch of rookie mistakes and some real potential this year in the secondary. next year though it could really pay off. jarvis jenkins didn't do much of anything. he's looking like he's destined for a very ho-hum career. how many CBs are we keeping? normally its 9-10 DBs (safety/CB), but i could see us keeping hall, wilson, crawford, amerson, biggers, and minnifield... wilson might be the first choice for a cut because his shoulder is still messed up and it's really affected his play. if you keep 6 CBs, that means probably only 4 safeties. you'd have to think it's merriweather, doughty, rambo, and thomas at this point, with jackson holding a suspension exemption and not counting against the limit. if anyone has a reasonable shot to make the roster it'd be the LBs, kimbrough or b. jenkins. outside of them, i don't think any of the long shots are likely to pan out. oh, and so far so good on injuries... PLEASE let that continue. |
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
the penalty issue really needs to get fixed though. that's something that DOES carry over from preseason.
|
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
I was disappointed to see Keiland and Royster getting carries in the game. It makes me feel like the 2 drafted RB's may not see the field much or even make it to the 53. I am pumped for Helu to be the much needed recieving threat out of the backfield.
Fred looks good. When are we going to see Jordan? LeRibeus better rebound. Rocca could kick better. Wtf do we need twitter idiots to interrupt watching games?!?!? |
I think, in general, he played well, too. That play just rubbed me the wrong way.
I see what you're saying, but I felt more like he had turned it upfield and his legs sort of went dead on contact, that's why I said "he went straight down." I incorrectly characterized it as him shying away, when I should have said "didn't really fight for it." That's how I saw the play. I'd like to see it again, honestly
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWB6-Vyu71Q]NFL 2013 PS W1 08 08 2013 Redskins @ Titans - YouTube[/ame] 7:40 ish mark. Your welcome I agree with you. It looks like he was shying away. I was irate as well when i saw the play live. Hankerson tends to drop to the floor alot instead of fighting for extra yards like other big WRs with similar size... |

I saw that move, too. It was perhaps the most exciting moment of the whole game for me. In the past that was the move Rak needed to make but didn't. With that low move Rak not only will be more effective, he'll also get held less. This could be the year that Rak advances from "very good" to "elite." |
Just read a good quote Rich Tandler: The Skins 3rd QB spot is not a developmental spot. The developmental QB's are in the 1st and 2nd spots.
its not worth having him over a guy like Chris Thompson of Chase Minnifield for an extra tackle (offensive or defensive )
This is an Excellent point. My only concern is with all the talk of eventually trading Cousins, why not have someone groomed to replace our #2 on our practice squad...perhaps it is someone that will be cut. |

RG3 has had two major knee surgeries in four years. It would be stupid to trade him and I don't think Shanahan and Allen are stupid. |

Yeah, I know...but if we had another young QB with mobility to develop into a backup....that would be wise. Heck...for all we know, RG3 plays 15 games this year but Cousins plays 1 and totally lights it up....and if next yrs draft sucks...it is at least feasible, we could get 2, 2nd rounders for Cousins...that would be awesome and hard to pass up...if we have no plan to replace Cousins, we'd couldn't really replace him with anyone other than a Rex Grossman type player....which wouldn't shock me. I just like the idea of having 2 young QB's in our non traditional scheme vs oldschool....starter plus and old guy backup. Primarily due to our teams mobility dependancy. |

There is nothing to be concerned about. It was only the first exhibition game. Keiland and Royster have contributed to this team in the past and they deserved an opportunity. But we probably won't see them in the second exhibition game when the rookies will get some playing time. Also, it is possible that none of these four players will make the final roster. the Skins might pick up another RB from somewhere else if one of these players doesn't stand out in the exhibition games. |

That is something both him and Kerrigan needed to work on. I felt they both tried too hard to make it look like they were being held or would just use strength to try to beat their man. Hopefully they both take the next step and become a great tandem. |
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
I might be a little bias since I went to ECU with Lance but in my eyes Lance > Stallworth, Briscoe, and Hankerson. Hankerson just doesn't go up and get it enough for me and is not very good at all after the catch just doesn't make you ever say "wow" what play. I think Lance does all that.

Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
Just watched on NFLN last evening. My thoughts:
*Helu looked incredible...healthy and explosive. *Royster better than expected. *Fred Davis is going to have a huge year. *Aldrick, you have to make those catches. *Keep Lance Lewis, cut the washed-up players like Stallworth and Henderson *I want to see Rambo hit someone. *Amerson, Minnifield, Crawford...looking good. *Do we keep Rex' experience and familiarity with Kyle over Pat White's ability to run the current offense as a slightly slower pace than RGIII? Tempting to keep White but I would still be more confident in Grossman than White to lead us to a win. How many team can actually say they still have a chance to win with their #3 QB? I think, with Rex we do. Of course, Bad Rex can show up at any time but with our running game, Rex only have to hand off and not screw spectacularly thing up otherwise. |

For all the PW > RG(III)
Film Sessions: Pat White's Good (But Completely and Utterly Overrated) Preseason Game Film Sessions: Rex Grossman's Horrible Preseason Game Was Actually Pretty Decent Good analysis. Haters going to hate and some are always looking for the next best thing but, bottom line, PW has a pop-gun arm and stares down receivers. Nothing against the guy but, until he shows something different, he is not an NFL QB. PW is the next in the line preseason favorites preceded by Beck and Brennan. I rooted for Brennan and fell for the "Beck can start in the NFL" argument - I have learned my lesson. These guys are where they are b/c folks whose livelihood's depend on it don't trust them to be competent QB's. As a side note, given the lack of arm strength by Beck and White, who in Miami is rating QB talent to think that they warranted a 2nd round pick? You would think one of the questions would be - "Can he throw the ball 50 yards downfield" or "Can he make all the required throws including a deep ball and a 20 yard out with zip?". Passes neither fo these two can make. [Frankly, PW isn't even a CFL QB - they routinely need to throw the deep ball. Accuracy in the short field doesn't appear to be PW problem - throwing more than 15 yards and staring down receivers does.] |
Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
Also, watched the Hankerson play several times. I see how it could be seen that he was avoiding contact because he ducked his head prior the hit. On the other hand, he didn't go straight to the ground, try to juke out the way, or just completely give himself up. IMO, I still see a guy who, turned upfield after a catch and lowered his shoulder before being hit by two guys with just as much momentum as him. If he comes in high, he gets stood up, knocked back and possibly stripped of the ball. It was a bang-bang play and basic physics was working against him.
Could he have been more "instinctual" about where the markers and defenders were? Maybe. Also, I saw Shanny come over to him but nothing to indicate a tongue lashing. From what I saw, he could have said something like "Nice try" or "Next time try and turn it up quicker" or any number of similar statements. At the end of the day, I just think you may be reading too much into this one play and that it's one of those "reasonable people" can differ on. |

I still think he could have made it, but he didn't. Whatever. For what it's worth, if you're battling to start/stay on a team/move up the depth chart, though, I think you probably need to make plays like that |

I think he made up for it with the leap for the TD. Can't question his effort on that one.

Re: Redskins @ Titans Thread
Eh, small sample of plays. First preseason game, etc. Can't get too worked up about anything.
