We all make 50,000 foot decisions on here. None of us are in the weeds like the folks at Redskins park.

I think BA is good with the $$$ and he seems focused on that now. McLovin is doing the scouting now AND if I had to bet the majority of BA's tenure here it was Mike S doing the personal work. I say from $$$ stand we are looking pretty good, have not seen a AH like signing in a long time.

If you ask me we got the right people in the right spots now. None of this is an exact science. It takes everyone so to blame one person is retarded, even McLovin touched on that in his presser.

And once again, Morris hasn't been hired, so all this nonsense could be for nothing. As someone said, Fangio could be in the mix.
Finally a ray of sunshine breaks through! That is why firing Bruce is overdue.

Bruce Allen is 28-52 as team President yet people here keep excusing him. Unbelievable.

Fair enough for you.

Personally, finishing in last place every year really bothers me. And since Allen-enabled meddling and incompetence are significantly (not alone, but significantly) to blame for this, I will continue to hold accountable the central cancer Allen.

I understand the desire to move on from Raheem, and I share it. The reality is that beyond the play of Kerrigan, K. Robinson, and Breeland, there was nothing noteworthy about how anyone played on defense, particularly in the secondary. Admittedly, the shelves weren't stocked, and injuries were particularly rough given the lack of depth. Nevertheless, there were enough times throughout the season where the defense looked lost -- not just outmatched physically, but lost -- that it seems justifiable to want to blow it up and start over with scheme and coaches.

Wait, are you saying that our team president has nothing to do with our on-field performance? If so, we should fire him because he is offering nothing positive.

We pay him to have a strong, positive effect on team performance. Our record is 28-52 while he has collected that paycheck.

Right, because as we know he's always called all the shots in his time here. Shanny had no input.

If you want a scapegoat look a little higher on the food chain. Snyder is the one common denominator for all of our fantastic success.

Despite you wanting to paint him as some power hungry egomaniac, he went and gave the fans what they wanted, a real GM. What an asshole.

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015

I think it was Ruhskins but someone said we are getting the right people in the right places. I look at Snyder's ownership like a guy playing chess by mail. You make a move, then you have to wait to see what the result of that move is. He has made many wrong moves, and very few right ones, but the fact is, each move takes time to shake out.

Blaming BA because he was out of his depth as a talent evaluator ignores the fact that he came in and set the team on the right path regarding player contracts. Even Shanahan had certain aspects that were good in terms of the long term goal of getting Snyder to understand what his place is and isn't in the scheme of a successful Redskins organization. We, at last, APPEAR, to have an appropriate NFL FO structure.

Personally I think we were moving the right way under Gibbs 2, only to have ST's death set gains on many levels back. It took away JG, it brought Snyder's heart for the players and the team back into the mix, and it somehow brought VC into a more prominent position. We are now beyond that though, and after many many years, I think we are on the brink of the Redskins Rising.

Of course it could all be just another win in the offseason.

Matty, I've said it before, I'll say it again, that is not how I view Allen.

Of course ownership is a problem. That's why we need a team president who will do a better job of mollifying ownership while protecting the football people. Instead, Allen is Snyder's face, his interpersonal lackey, the guy who allows ownership to meddle without having the outward appearance of meddling. Allen completely fails to provide the buffer space the true professionals need to be successful.

I think that we should hold the architect of the RGIII trade accountable. Go figure.

Yes! Yes, we are going to blame him. Other teams had depleted secondaries where backups played well. There were many, many missed assignments by our secondary. They weren't learning. I ain't got to lie Craig, I'm willing to let Allen have another year of being Danny's lackey. I want to believe hiring Scot Mcshamalamadingdong was a step in the right direction. My problem was never with Bruce Allen, aka the guy who has done a decent job of not handing out bad contracts/prob had something to do with us moving back to Richmond for TC/deserves some credit for restoring bad relationships between Snyder/former 'Skins greats. My problem was with Bruce Allen, guy in charge of the 53. He was long overdue to get out of that role, and to his credit he got us a guy who has a great track record in his last 2 stops in that role. For me, as long as Scot has final say over the 53 (which it appears he does) I am willing to give Bruce some more time. If at this time next year it looks like Bruce has his fingerprints all over another terrible season, let's pull out the pitchforks.

So what does getting rid of Allen accomplish as long as Snyder is still here?? You really think hiring someone to stonewall Snyder is going to work??

Didn't you say it was a pipe dream to think Allen was going to give up control over personnel? Sounded like you were insinuating his reluctance to give up control. Seemed to happen quite easily if you ask me.

No, you don't hire someone to stonewall Snyder, that's impossible and would be bad business. Instead you hire someone who does what capable people in similar positions around the league do every day: diplomatically find ways to keep ownership smiling while providing as much fence as possible (it will never be perfect) protecting the football pros.

This happens every day for some other teams, since they have capable leadership.

Instead we get a mouthpiece and snitch for ownership, a guy who actively is 180 degrees opposite of the buffer he should be.

As for your last sentence, "seemed to" must be the operative words. They said Shanahan had total control over personnel, too, and that proved to be illusory.

Shanny didn't have control? News to me. How much say do you really think Bruce had? Shanahan is the ultimate control freak, his contract was also iron clad as far as his role here. If he allowed his mind to be changed on any decisions that's on him.

People need to get the f*ck over the fact that Snyder owns his team and he'll have some type of influence over everything that happens. People keep calling Bruce Allen a lackey...so what is he supposed to do? Tell Snyder to go f*ck himself all the time?

Maybe I'm an optimist, but it seems like we have something we haven't had in a while in terms of a good money person (BA) and a good talent evaluator (McC). Hopefully between the two of them they can give the Gruden the tools he needs to succeed...and hopefully Gruden can prove he's a good coach.

Exactly. A billionaire's employee is going to control what the billionaire does with what he owns as much as the billionaire allows it.

I have no problems with Bruce staying on as president. We have a gm with a scouting background now with a successful track record. This seems to be prototypical in the league because he can recognize good players and, just as important, good scouts.

I genuinely believe Bruce wants to win and is aware of his shortcomings in evaluating talent, hence the new gm. He is a good ambassador who loves the team. No harm in his current role.

Joe Gibbs was a master at this. You could see it during his four seasons, how he massaged Snyder and Vinny Cerrato’s egos during news conferences, etc. Made them feel like they were giving invaluable input all the time. Gibbs also knew when to let Snyder “win;” in other words, he knew when to pick his battles. Gibbs also knew Snyder idolized him. Who didn't?
As one person from that staff once said, “That way, when it came time to pick his fights with Dan, he’d get what he wanted. He managed Dan well.”

2008-2009, Snyder gave control to his good friend below, right?

Thanks Snyder!

I dunno what to believe about Snyder vs. Shanahan. But Shanahan didn't have that kind of trouble in Denver, right? Was the situation in Oakland Shanny's fault or Al Davis (who had trouble with other coaches)? OTOH, we have had continuous drama with the Snyder Skins except Gibbs 2.0.

It seems like a mixed bag to me, but isn't it logical to assume Snyder is still a power hungry asshole until proven otherwise?

WillH 01-13-2015 10:48 PM

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015

Maybe I'm missing something, but to me when Snyder was clearly overreaching with his authority it was manifested in big free agent splashes brought in by sickening courting practices with Redskins One, fine dining, and ridiculous contracts. Then he tried mixing things up on the coaching end of things bringing in a proven hard ass coach, then an up and comer, then grasping for hope with Gibbs 2.0, etc.

One thing I can say is that since Bruce has been here they seemed to have been more responsible in free agency avoiding Big splashes and giving smart contracts. It actually seemed like they were attempting to build through the draft (of course the RG3 trade was probably counter productive in that arena), but the problem was that they just didn't have the scouting talent. I mean, Shanahan could pick RB's and knew the type of lineman he wanted, and Bruce helped him get those pieces.

Then without Shanny Bruce made a go of it this past offseason. He seemed to do a good job of searching for a new head coach, did a pretty thorough search, and brought in a guy who is if nothing else speaking his mind. Also, with a pretty even keeled approach to free agency was able to pull off arguably the best value acquisition of anyone in DJax. Bruce was also reaching out for a lot of help it seems from multiple guys with scouting talent. So, it looks like he failed, as a GM making personnel decisions, but so what, now he has brought in what many believe to be the best personnel guy out there.

Anyways, to me, it seems pretty clear that Snyder has not been as hands on as he once was in personnel matters, and if he has been, Bruce has at least taught him not to over reach or make hasty decisions with coaches and players (RG3 being perhaps the one exception) and not to over pay. Bruce alone (or with Snyder) has failed, and now they brought in someone to fill the vacuum of talent evaluation. So, Either Snyder has backed off, or is learning to listen to the football people more and will maybe learn more about bringing in talent from SM. If this is all true, then I think Bruce is doing a fine job of managing Snyder.

Hearing on twitter it's Joe Barry as DC and Morris stays as DB coach (could be just rumors). If that's the case, I'm a bit confused- but mostly tired and I don't care. It's a rebuilding process and can't wait to draft actual players that can play regardless of who's coaching.

Probably my favorite part of being a fan is watching young drafted talent evolve to become NFL pro talent. Lot of hope for GM-SM.

Nice nugget from his defensive coordinator tenure: "After allowing 31 points to the Packers, it brought their season total points allowed to 517. This is the second highest point total allowed in a single season in NFL history, trailing only the 533 allowed by the 1981 Baltimore Colts"
