No way is this worse than the Vinny years, not even close. That went on forever, this is just one off season. |
Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
What will make me crazy is if we start seeing tons more people coming in from TB. That's one thing I noticed a lot with Allen (and to a lesser extent with Gruden), LOTS of the old boys club shit.
Yeah most likely. Probably the only way he stays is if he just really wants to be part of an NFL team so badly he'll stay on the payroll at a minimized role. But it has not been good for a while. And the funeral excuse was a piss poor one
Well this is just the latest shit sandwich I've had to eat today. At least we know the Skins are back to normal again. |

Seems to me that Gruden and SM are at odds as well. I remember that comment when the season was over, basically Gruden said that we need to do better in the first round cause "one was hurt and one was a guard." I mean did Gruden realize that Brandon S. is a legit starter and is a really good player?? Just a stupid ass comment by Gruden and a direct shot at SM. |

Brandon S. is a good player -- but with a terrible DL and Leonard Williams sitting there - not really a great pick. Leonard Williams is one of PFF's top graded DEs. Brandon S is a good player, but good guards can be found later. |
Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
I wonder how much of the power struggle is actually Gruden vs McC.
And if McC's drinking has anything to do with this well, he only has himself to blame. |

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
Fact from Fiction -- I am a bit concerned that folks are conflating the two. The only firm facts of which I am aware are that McCloughan (a) didn't go to the combine, (b) had a death in the family (admittedly a few weeks earlier), and (c) we haven't signed any of our FAs. If there are other facts associated with this, I would welcome the chance to hear them. But the stuff about McCloughan drinking, conflict between him and Gruden, and all the rest is at best conjecture, isn't it? Maybe there are some reasonable inferences here, but absent fact, why would anyone assume that the sky is falling?

Scot and Gruden generally do get along. I don't think it quite came out the way he meant it. Scot and Allen is really where the real dissension is. I don't want to get into it because it would mean bringing up "he who shall not be named again" but the GM job was AJ Smith's to have, but Snyder shot it down over a strong disagreement over "he who shall not be named" |

I hear you, Matty, but no one really knows what it is except those involved. Power struggle, health issue (not that they're mutually exclusive), creative differences (ok, that isn't likely). I am trying to look at this team in a different light given that last season was really without drama; it's hard not to assume the worst given the last two decades, I grant you. But maybe -- just maybe -- we're getting on the other side of that craziness. |

It's a huge, huge deal for the GM of a team to miss the combine. This is arguably the most important week of his job. The offseason truly begins there. |

I realize that you often have inside information (if memory serves, you work with the team or did at one point), and I respect your views a lot. And it is impossible to disagree with your statement about the importance of the combine -- it's really self-evident. I just don't want to speculate and assume the worst here; after 20 years of doing that (with reason), I am hoping for a level of respectability for this franchise and for a reasonable, non-doomsday explanation. |

end the end...is it the drinking? Or is this just the power struggle and an eff you to Bruce in missing the Combine? Like you said, this is a major event and where you set the table for both the prospects but more importantly the start of Free agency....Tampering rules be damned! I would think if McC moving out of picture than the likely hood of Cousins returning is greater. |

So the fact that Scot McCloughan had a gag order put on him isn't a cause for concern? A GM can't speak at the Senior Bowl? Can't speak at the NFL Combine? Doesn't even show up to the NFL Combine? Meanwhile, Bruce Allen uses the excuse of a grandmother dying as the reason why McCloughan is still home, yet granny died a few weeks ago? You think it takes over three weeks to get back to work from bereavement? How about those facts? |

Exactly. How does your GM who lives for the draft not go to the combine? He's gone and it's a shame. Just really hope that once he's out that we don't go back to doing business the old way. I can't stomach that shit anymore. |

How about those facts?
Is the gag order a known fact? I know it has been reported, but has anyone actually confirmed it? And do you profess to know anything about the memorial arrangements for his grandmother? I don't. And with all due respect, I doubt you do either. It isn't entirely unprecedented for memorial services to take place some number of weeks after someone dies -- I am headed to one on March 16 for someone who passed away on February 24. But by all means -- let's all panic and assume the worst here. |

The man in your avatar might be in for a promotion. who knows? I think the Redskins definitely need a GM/Head of Player Personnel guy not named Bruce Allen. |

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
Ignore all my prior posts: We're f_cked, the McCloughan era is over, no FAs will sign with us for that reason, and as a direct consequence we will revert to a sub.500 team for the next few decades.
Appearing on 106.7 The Fan in D.C., the Washington Post's Mike Jones referred to NFL Network's "report" of a three-way trade involving Kirk Cousins, Tony Romo, and the 49ers as "fake."
Jones seems to believe Redskins president Bruce Allen used NFL Network's Ian Rapoport as a mouthpiece to spread the rumor as a misinformation tactic with the Redskins embroiled in front-office drama. Ultimately, the Redskins decided giving Jay Gruden a two-year extension would be better P.R. "Bruce was like, alright we gotta do something because my fake Ian Rapoport Redskins three-way trade thing didn't work to change the story." Jones suggested the Redskins are now seen as so dysfunctional NFL agents are wary of their players signing with Washington because they're unaware of who's in charge. GM Scot McCloughan did not attend the Combine and is expected to be let go after April's draft. just wow more: Appearing on 106.7 The Fan in D.C., the Washington Post's Mike Jones stated the Redskins and GM Scot McCloughan are "headed to a divorce." Jones essentially stated that Jay Gruden's two-year extension was a P.R. move amid organizational chaos. "And that's the sad thing, because Scot is such a good dude," said Jones. "Loves football. Eats, drinks, sleeps it. You talk to guys who've worked with him in the league, and all he does is watch football and unfortunately drink. If Bruce Allen has that much pull over the GM he should just be the GM. Who else is going to want to come in if GM is just a title but Allen still calls all the shots. |

FAKE NEWS!!!! I don't believe nothing I read anymore without serious doubts... I love it when these so called sports reporters leak out all this info and 99% of it is BS!! I agree....this too shall pass. Many of these folks probably have good reason to dislike the Danny, goodness knows he brought much of this on himself. But seriously, the guy hasn't been visible for 2-3 years & yet all these "butt hurt" reporters keep jabbing. At the end of the day, I personally don't care if there is dysfunction. There's been plenty of dysfunction in Dallas for years & one great draft later, everyone is happy. So, let's get our great draft (I don't care who makes the picks or gets the credit for it) & let's win some playoff games. |

Who's to blame for the meh drafts, free agent busts and the Cousins contract screw up? Where's the proof that Scot is somehow indispensable and all hell will break loose if he departs? I like the idea of a competent "football guy" GM as much as the next Skins fan, but what exactly has Scot done? And what IF he's a mess personally and can't keep his act together? All Skins fault? I don't get the sense this is the total dumpster fire the media is making it out to be. They have an axe to grind, because they're being kept out of the loop. |

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
I think there are certain media people that will just never say anything good about the Redskins, like Florio, but unfortunately they're the ones everyone focuses on. That's the same in news in general. You always here way more about bad stuff than good stuff. I wish Cooley didn't say what he did, even if it's 100% true. But if he didn't someone else would have. And if SM is showing signs of being a drunk again then he brought it on himself. Hopefully he has it together or can get it together because I'd prefer he stuck around.
We already extended Jay and if we finalize a contract with Kirk all the other stuff will fall by the way side and we can talk about strictly football again. |

I don't think it's coincidence that Scot McCloughan comes in and suddenly the team is winning 8 or 9 games and making the playoffs. McCloughan has been around three successful transitions of teams from poor to fantastic. He knows how to bring in the right guys and he knows the correct way to build through the draft. You also can't judge a draft after one season. It takes a few seasons to really get a good idea how good or bad that draft really was. And least we also remember that in the past, Scot McCloughan's players tend to last longer in the NFL than players drafted by any other GM, so that tells you something of the magnitude of talent McCloughan can bring to the scouting department. When he gets the axe, you're going to see it then. We do not want Bruce Allen governing over player acquisitions. |

His move with RGIII to Kirk Cousins was a highly risky one that paid off. I love the idea of having a good coach around for a few years. That being said, I don't think it should ever grow to the point to where he's coach/GM. I think there needs to be a solid player personnel guy in that position, one that both Gruden and Allen would respect and likewise. A good working relationship with all three. I still would love to keep McCloughan on staff if he's willing to take some sort of a diminished role. If he's head of the scouting department or something like that, but I don't know how that would honestly work with the personalities we currently have in the front office now. Who knows? Maybe McCloughan keeps his job and everybody continues to hold hands and sing camp fire songs? I just don't trust player acquisition to Bruce Allen, and I don't think a head coach should be taking on that responsibility - especially when he's only been head coach for three years. |
Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
After missing the Combine, Redskins GM Scot McCloughan has not returned to team headquarters and is not involved in free agent negotiations.
Publicly, team brass has insisted McCloughan would return to Redskins Park whenever he is finished dealing with "personal matters." Privately, it appears McCloughan is being forced out or already has been. The NFL Combine is a critical venue for both draft and free agency information gathering, and teams make some of their biggest decisions of the year during this week's legal tampering window and Thursday's official start of free agency. McC not negotiation with FA...doesn't make sense. |
