Who can forget the performance this guy had in the biggest game 1 int and 1 pass catch TD.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLk-saBphgI
Word is he benched a team high 545 pounds at Alabama and squats over 600 pounds. Runs a 5.0 forty and has good hands. Looks like a great blocking/pass catching FB on goal line offense as well as being a pretty good DT. |

Re: Looking at the draft.
In an ideal world where every position we need is equal in BPA, based on who we signed so far, here is how I'd draft:
1. DL/NT 2. RB 4. G 5. CB 6. S 7. MLB 7. TE |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Nelson from ND is the best player in the draft, I have watched 2 full games (UM, LSU) and he is straight killing it.

Martrell Spaight was the best Run stopping LB in the league last yr, with a 14.6% stop percentage.
I think all of our LB's are pretty good in that area. It's in coverage where they're total clusterfucks. When our LB's are out in space they're useless. If we don't draft a DT then I hope those clowns in the front office draft Roquan Smith. He's a 3 down LB that doesn't need to come off the field. No offense to Foster, but he's a backup on most teams. |

Martrell Spaight was the best Run stopping LB in the league last yr, with a 14.6% stop percentage.
Is that stat based on making a tackle v missing a tackle? The reason I ask is because the critique of the LB corps after Brown and Foster went out and/ or became injured was where the tackles were being made. Brown is one of the fastest LB in the league and Foster is one of the smartest (not best, but smart). I think those two traits are synergistic. Between the two, I think the tackles were being made for much shorter gains than after they became out or limited. |

When the DL was healthy, he and Brown where all around the field against the run, and he covers way better than Brown. Not the best athleticism but as you say he is smart... and tough as a mofo ! ! I would like to see Ridley. we need a wr in a bad way.

Guice
Smith Vea That's my top 3 choices for #13. Vea and Smith will probably be gone as they are both top prospects at their pos. |

Hurst could be there at 13...
A good read! Chubb, Vea, Payne and now Hurst - I don't see how we will not get an opportunity to draft a good dline at #13 if we decide to stay pat and draft one. But of course, this strategy easily can be altered if and when we sign Hankins. |

Being interested in dropping down to pick up a 2nd or 3rd. Anyone have ideas on which teams now might have the most desire to trade up, or is it too dependent on how the top 12 picks play out?

Cowpukes may be interested in trading up to jump Baltimore and get Ridley (WR from Alabama). Otherwise, I don't see anyone else interested in moving up. |

There is about a 1% chance AK starts. The second round should have a very good guard, if not the 4th round could have a possible starter. Braden Smith and Wyatt Teller are a step below them, IMHO, but they are both nasty and relentless. There may be few decent OT and OC prospects who could be moved to OG. Frank Ragnow comes to mind. He may be undervalued right now due to a serious injury in 2017. |

Good read on Guice
Nice read, thanks for posting this! I'm starting to warm up to the idea of drafting Guice although I'm torn between this and drafting a defender. We need playmakers on defense and yet we need RB badly to help out Smith.. |

Re: Looking at the draft.
I've got no problem with Guice. I do have a problem with him at 13.

Re: Looking at the draft.
Grade wise at 13:
Its gonna come down to Secondary players: Minak Fitzpatrick and Derwin James vs DLine players Payne and Vea. The LB from Georgia Smith and CB from Ohio State could be in play. Maybe DE from Michigan. The only offense player would be Ridley WR from Alabama. (who, for the record, is overrated imo) Nelson the Guard will gone. Then you have probably 3 RBs all grading extremely close: Guice, Ronald Jones and Sony Michel. They are most likely graded in that order with Guice being a (10 scale) 8.0, Jones 7.9 and Michel 7.8)..................Probably are not best player available at 13, unless the Skins in too much in love with one over the other. BUT the fuckin problem is this: The RB situation across the league is quietly dire. I see absolutely no way any of these guys make it to our pick in the 2nd round. NONE. I see Tampa Bay, Giants, Cleveland, Indy, Denver and Oakland all competing for RB early second round. Gonna be interesting for sure. The easy answer is 'trade back', but most know its never easy to move back. |

I agree, they need to go DL, or great player that slides, or trade down and add a pick |

I think we can trade back and still get guice.

That line of thinking lends itself to falling in love with one player without giving appropriate consideration for your alternatives. You’re by definition espousing a ‘reach’ strategy. Foolhardy. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
I don't think there is any non special teams position that is not draftable in a certain spot or round. If you think that guy is a great player and will help the team win, you draft him. Running back, guard, etc. It takes 22 guys playing well and together to consistently win. I don't want to pass on great RB because he's a RB. That's the opposite of reaching (passing) and I think that's just as bad. So if they have Guice rated highly at 13, take him. If not, pick someone else or trade down.

Re: Looking at the draft.
I really like Payne...I like Derwin James. I have mixed emotions about vea and Fitzpatrick...lil overrated imo...vea more than Fitzpatrick. Smith the ILB is my question mark...I like him but ILB seem like bust city that high.
Guice is a first round talent and i don’t think it would be too big of a reach...I think the biggest hangup is the fact it’s the position of RB so high. Barkley is real deal though. If gruden and staff consider him to be a back who could take our run game to next level...I could get behind that. |

Him, Nicholson, and Swearinger would be a great safety combo. |

Do we have a combination of 8 open spots/guys to replace or should we package some picks to move back up in the draft?

Generally, I think you bring in the 8 guys. Between practice squad guys, diamond in the rough guys, and guys that looked good, but didn't cut it, the more bodies you bring in, generally the more likely to find the good ones. BUT If you see a guy in the mid 3rd that you had a 2nd round grade on, then by all means jump up to get him |

But I wouldn't be opposed to trading a 4th and a 5th to move back up into the 3rd round. Or like a 5th and 6th to get another 4th rounder. Either way, draft is less than a month. I'm ready. |

you say less than a month, I say a whole freakin' month LOL We are going to hear so much rumor, hyperbole and just plain idiocy for 4 weeks. Wish they would move it up by 2 weeks, then let teams practice sooner too. Then start training camp earlier, and shrink preseason, and kick off the whole season a month or two earlier, and extend it for a month or two as well. I HATE THE OFF SEASON!! |

I don't think Fitzpatrick has a position in the pros. He's not a beast like James, anyway. I like Vea but I like Hankins and Payne better. Smith is aggressive and he's all over the field. He can really run and i like that. Guice is a very good player. I wouldn't hate him at #13 but I'd prefer a defensive player. We have no chance to draft Barkley. He is the best player in the draft, IMO, and it ain't even close. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Drafttek has us taking Denzel Ward. I'd take him. Also, interesting tidbit/confirmation about aiming for compensatory picks next year and a nice dig at Allen:
The Redskins continued with their generally quiet Free Agency strategy, making small signings of Pernell McPhee and Orlando Scandrick. Bruce Allen admitted at the owner's meetings that the team planned on signing players that were cut in order to receive compensation picks next year. So, for those of you calling for Brucey's head, sound like he's confident he's going to be around a while (UGH)! Regardless of the recent signings or my qualms with the front office, the Redskins will likely take BPA on defense in the First Round. The team sits in a nice spot at 13, as four quarterbacks will likely come off the board before them, pushing top-ten talent down to them. If one of the quarterbacks is still around, or if a team like the Steelers or Saints want to develop the fifth QB taken, the Redskins could be looking at quite a haul of picks in a trade-down scenario with a QB-needy team. Here, the Redskins stay put and land the top CB in the draft in*tantalizing prospect*Denzel Ward. Ward isn't the biggest corner, and his weight (just 183) may scare some teams, but he has good length and instincts on the outside. If the Redskins are worried about his lack of bulk, they can move him into the slot as a rookie to avoid some of the contact he would be taking in the run game. With Ohio State corners having great success transitioning to the NFL since Urban Meyer took over in Columbus (all 5 CBs drafted since his arrival are currently NFL starters), Denzel Ward could be a replacement-plus for what the team lost in Kendall Fuller earlier this offseason.* |
Re: Looking at the draft.
It's the old sign a turd for a draft pick trick.

Re: Looking at the draft.
Another guy that is under the radar and a good CB is
QUENTON MEEKS, CB, STANFORD The big thing a team will get with Meeks is a very high football IQ. His father was an NFL defensive coach for over 20 years and has no doubt taught Meeks a thing or two. He also has ideal size for a NFL cornerback at 6-foot-1, 209-pounds with 31 3/4-inch arms. At the combine, Meeks showed explosive athleticism with jumps of 39-inches in the vertical and a 10-foot-8-inch broad jump. He then ran a 4.49 40-yard dash at his pro day. Meeks improved his overall grade (84.4 in 2017) and coverage grade (83.9 in 2017) each year at Stanford and he spent most of his time playing outside corner and that is where he fits in the NFL. Meeks’ consistent development along with his size and intelligence will make him attractive to teams during the draft. This would be a nice 4th round addition if he is there |
