I am not fan of 1 year deals (unless player had bad season or coming back from injury), I think one year deals for players like Hankins isn't ideal. It puts extra pressure on FO to resign the player next off season while trying to extend contracts with our players with expired contracts or signing some FAs. But then some could point to how this strategy worked out well with Zach Brown.
Ideally we would sign him for 1 year, along with Payne or Vea. Next year we have a NT ready to step in, or we resign him if the Rook doesn't work out. I can understand why as a NT he wants a long term deal though. May be his last real shot at one. |

The thought of signing Dez cracks me up. 99% of me knows it's stupid. But the toughest 1% is piqued. The idea of Dez catching a TD in a game we win against Dallas sounds so amazballs.

Right now I don't think there's any real urgency to sign him, but he's the only FA left that would make sense IMO. Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk |

It doesn’t make sense for us. I’ve heard Green Bay, Baltimore and Arizona...all these places make perfect sense imo. Of course, Green Bay he would probably excel the most. |

Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk
I don't think there's been a lot of hyperbole about Hankins. It's just that filling a clear need with a good player gives the FO the flexibility to go with a player who plays another position in the draft. If Vita Vea and an equally rated player are both available where the Skins would like to draft them, and we have already signed Hankins, then perhaps we take the other player and get stronger as a team than we would have if we hadn't signed Hankins and felt the need to take Vea. That's how i look at it, anyway. |

We share same perspective, I like the flexibility we would have if we sign Hankins. Although if we sign him to one year deal then we still would have the need to draft Dline player (Vea, Payne or whoever else). |
Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
Again, Hankins strength is a top 3 in the league interior run defender. Snacks Harrison, Suh, Short (carolina) are among his statical peers. Brandon Williams up in Baltimore is a guy with the same type game. Jag rushing the passer...elite stopping the run.
If Hankins comes down on price and would sign with us, which would allow the flexibility of moving back a couple spots to get RB Guice. Wow...kinda a dream scenario. |

That's exactly how I feel about it. But if we don't sign Hankins I'd like us to trade down and hope to get Payne late in the first. Per the draft trade value chart, which may not be 100% accurate but gives an idea, we could get reeaaal good value for our 1st! https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp Have no clue if they'll want to trade up, but if they do, how about NE's 23rd pick plus their late 2nd round (63rd) and late 3rd round (95th) ? We could still get Payne at 23 couldn't we? Anyway, per the chart, this is the kind of value we could get, and if a team wants a player available when we pick, we have the upper hand and can say "give us this or we'll happily use our 13th pick". |

If Mayfield slides it might happen. Then the Redskins could go; #1 NE- Payne #2 G #2 NE- CB #3 NE- RB |

Look at the improvement the Jags got last year with an improved great defense. We need that type of D lineman. I wished we had signed him when he has been twice a FA in his career. |

You may very well be right. And this is another exemple of how signing Hankins would give us flexibility in the draft to fill other needs and/or go BPA and/or trade down without worrying about not filling a need, isn't it ? |

True. Saving cap for next year wouldn't be a terrible thing either. I was sort of "justifying" the interest in Hankins in this quiet time of the offseason. |

Skins re-signed Nsekhe. Nice to have consistency there, assuming he is healthy for the year.
He's a damn good player, dude can play G or T
I don't think he can. During the giants game in 2016, they moved Trent over to guard for a few series and Ty played tackle.
Trent was still the best player on the field and dominated but said after the game he hadn't practiced at guard. If Ty could play guard, he would have in that situation. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

EDIT: Ty Nsekhe could move from tackle to left guard with Trent Williams' return | NBC Sports Washington This link doesn't work but they mentioned him playing G when TW came back I think we’d like to put him at left guard. I think we were excited at the thought of having him and Trent on the same side. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to keep them both on the field for very long and see how that works out. Ideally, if Trent is able to play the last four games and Morgan gets healthy, I’d like to leave Ty at left guard and see how he does – see how he progresses at that position. |

EDIT: as it stands now, that will actually make him the highest paid RG in the league in 2019: https://overthecap.com/position/right-guard/2019 Only Andrew Norwell (LG) would be a better paid guard than him! |
Re: Redskins Offseason Thread
I'm not sure if this already discussed but the Patriots traded a 5th rounder for Danny freakin Shelton!
That would have been a good get for our front office even if it cost a 4th round pick |
