Re: Offseason: Around the NFL
In terms of the onside kick the current rule is awful. The kicking team might as well take a knee. I like the 4th and 15 because at least there is a chance. I would prefer the old rules. One of the ballsiest plays I remember was the kick off of the second half of super bowl 44.
|
Re: Offseason: Around the NFL
see I think teams found the secret near the end of last year. Something along the lines of kick straight at the opposing teams player like a hot potato, your team knows where the ball is going and if the receiving team player doesn't hold on it becomes a melee with both sides having an equal chance. If not that then have a 5 players designated for a rugby scrum!!!

I wonder what causes the Game Pass link? I have to use an ad blocker because of data capped internet. I even used different browsers with no luck.

Re: Offseason: Around the NFL
Of course ESPN includes Lebrons opnion in the article. His dick is permanently lodged in their naughty spot.
I stand with Drew. I'm tone deaf as fuck. I'll wear the badge with pride. There were and are other ways or times to protest. Look at Drews record, the man is a humanitarian if there is one in the NFL. It's his right to feel how he does. Note - I am 100% for Kaeps right to kneel. Not agreeing with it is not the same as saying he shouldn't be allowed to do it. |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk[/quote] Brees' comments - right now is not the time or the place with everything going on. Also, he has the right to his opinion obviously, but shame on him. It's easy for people to not believe in / understand what people are protesting about and why, when it has never happened to him. |
Re: Offseason: Around the NFL
Just my reading of what he actually said: I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country"
It's not the sentiment of the whole piece he did, it's that uncompromising opening line. He's not a politician but I'd suggest the 'I will never agree' part is way too absolute a wording to engender sympathy with his view regardless of the rest of the statement. Had he said something like' at this time I cannot agree' or 'I cannot see a way to agree' it would show he is coming from a place of personal opinion but with an open mind. But that first line is unambiguous and final in its message. To me it says he will never change his mind regardless of any evidence put to him that he might be wrong. Note I'm not commenting on his opinion, just how he expressed it. To me its uncompromising in its wording and that, I feel, is what opened him up for criticism. For me, if he actually feels that way, that we will never be swayed to understand the protests he disagrees with, then he would have been better placed to just say nothing. |

Brees is a good guy I give him credit for quickly owning up to what he said, as others have said I think his original statement just came off too harsh given the current circumstances. He could have worded it better.

Re: Offseason: Around the NFL
The reason all of the veterans who served and fought was to protect our nation, all of its people, our Constitution and all the freedoms that the Constitution protects. Many have died to protect our Freedom of Speech (which is what kneeling is - stating an opinion), even if we may not agree with what is said.

I feel like I could, right now, build a better starting OL (for 2020) and entire secondary from the remaining FA than we have on our roster.

Dont show up? Year doesnt accrue. Who would be the nearest candidate to hold out now? Maybe McLaurin if he balls out this year. Hed have 2 years left on his deal but he is getting paid 681k this season, then 794 and 874. I could see him wanting a new deal, if he balls out. Payne and Allen are coming up. Scherff is tagged. |

Scherff -- im torn on what the FO should do with him. Should they sign him to a LTD now, making him top 5 paid for guards? Let him play on the tag and see if he can stay healthy, then most likely pay him more then vs you would now? My heart says pay the man, my brain says lets see him play a full season first. |

But I think he means he wants to meet guys and get to know them before they start talking extensions. Once that happens I expect them to try and re-up Scherff before FA next year to save some money. We might hear about an extension during the season. Also I'd have to dig it up again but even though the training camp fines can't be waived, I'm pretty sure that accrued season doesn't go away for training camp holdouts. |

I'm guessing they gave in as part of concessions for things like easing up on weed testing. Player holdouts are bad for both sides anyway. Nobody comes out looking good. |
Re: Offseason: Around the NFL
Under this new CBA, I dont feel bad if a vet cant hold out now a la Trent. You guys entered into a negotiated agreed upon contract.
But I do feel bad for the overachieving mid to late round draftee playing on the rookie contracts. If McLaurin balls out, he will be forced to play 3 more years on a peanuts contract. I guess the hope is that it gives the team and player motivation to get a LTD agreed to after year 3. If the team doesnt extend/resign McLaurin after year 3 ... Id be pissed if I was him. (Assuming McL balls out). |

I'm really curious where the cracks were. Whether Smith caved, or if he knew he didn't have the backing from the players. It's been very underreported, at least on the Redskins oriented sites I frequent. |
