Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
I’m really surprised that ppl are saying the NFL is “just about done”. Ready to go out of business. Seriously??
1. MLB lost a season and it’s still here. Baseball is boring as shitte and people still go to games or watch it in tv. 2. All the NFL teams are owned by BILLIONAIRES. They can lose a few bucks because the COVID 19 Pandemic has cut the preseason by 2 games. 3. Lets just take one of the worst owners in the NFL. Our own Dan Snyder. He bought the team for $800 mill and the team is now worth over $3 bill. That’s after 20 years of pure mediocrity and piss poor football- most of it caused by Snyder himself. Our 20 year history under Snyder has seen our team go from a SB contender to 28th in the NFL (underneath us - Browns and Bengals). Our stadium is horrible and run down. All the food and beverages at FEDEX are way overpriced and service is really bad. There are as many fans from TGE OTHER TEAM - as from actual Redskins fans. I personally think that the team is going to FINALLY turn it around. But the teams value has increased even with all of Snyder’s gross buffoonery. WHY? Because the NFL is the most popular sport in this country. Games are on 4-5 days a week. Teams play in England and people THERE go to see the games. The NFL has games on ENGLISH TV (admittedly at 1:00 or 2:00 am). This is a country where the people understand and like cricket [emoji967]. The reason the NFL makes so much money is TELEVISION. That is why even a numbnut like Snyder has seen his team increase in value. Because the NFL is a huge cash cow. The SB sells a 30 second spot of advertising for over a million$$. Hell, the NFL even makes money on the COMBINE and the DRAFT. Over 25 years ago ppl didn’t even know what the Combine was! The NFL has ppl watching the draft - with most of the players that are drafted are out of the NFL five years later. The Redskins will NOT lose fans because the name or uniform changes. The fan base will INCREASE. Why? It will show that even a bad owner like Snyder can change. After 20 years he finally gave control to the HC, without a GM like Cerrato or Allen to secretly do his bidding. Rivera said yesterday that he wanted to change the team’s name. He’s been talking it over with Snyder for the last couple weeks. Rivera wants the team name to HONOR THE MILITARY. What’s wrong with that? Snyder wants to honor the Native Americans. What’s wrong with that? Changing the name gets money flowing to the team so they can pay BIG BUCKS to the coaches, GM, scouts, executives, etc who wouldn’t come work for this crappy team otherwise. That is until this team starts to win. Changing the name gets the team back to DC, with a new, modern Stadium. Maybe it gets the team a new practice facility. Change just for changes sake is bad. But it’s time for this team to change for the better. Picking a new name that honors the military is a great idea. That new name may get the military servicemen and women and veterans who are a big part of the DC population to come for OUR team, not the opponent. Picking a name that honors a tribe or the Native Americans is going to show Snyder can change and improve as an owner. Changing the name gets ppl excited about this team again. New name, new HC, new GM (hopefully), new DC, new OC, Chase Young! This team will turn around. In 5-7 years we may have a new stadium (if Snyder abandons the FEDEX contract early - not likely but here’s hoping). The old name is going. I hope that Snyder gets the new name right. But he’s got Rivera and probably Alex Smith to help him improve. Oh yeah, and the NFL will be around long after we are gone. Lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
Suffice it to say, I think the name change controversy is one that has been manufactured and amplified by small, but voraciously vocal group. But where we are is where we are.
Still, this notion that changing it will Give Danny a new lease and the team will flourish is wishful thinking exemplified. Danny's ownership would the same if he owned the Giants, Saints, or any other franchise. The problem has not been the name or the crappy stadium. It's been Snyder's much documented impatience, arrogance, and micro-managing. Changing the label and moving it to a new environment is not going to change that. I am encouraged by Ron Rivera and hints that Snyder has changed. But we have seen that before. It is tempting to think that this might be time to cease being a fan of Washington. And perhaps the NFL. |

Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
I've said this before, No I don't think the name is Offensive but in today's Political climate it's a hot topic . I personally would like to see Dan Stand by his word and not change it but as far as money goes he could make some big money on the sales of a new logo and moniker plus it would open up the chance that all Redskin fans have wanted and that is to build a New stadium on the RFK site and bring the team back to DC. So I think it will happen and I will take a guess that it will be the "Red Tales or the Senators" .IMO.

Sorry, I write long posts. I fought for my country so I will say or wear whatever I want. That includes Redskins gear. Hell, I’ve always worn Redskins stuff in an Eagles-Redskins game in the Vet & Lincoln Stadium in Philly, AND had REDSKINS signs to boot. Nasty, drunk ass fans there wanted to fight me when I had my 8-year old son or daughter with me, holding my hand. I just laughed at them and walked away. Also had the Eagles fans cuss me out in front of the same. Last year I stopped going to the Linc in Philly because it just wasn’t fun to be surrounded with all those drunken jerkoffs. Of course going to FEDEX isn’t much better with so many fans from the other team! Hope it starts to change this season. Don’t be afraid to say what you think or wear what you want. “Evil triumphs when good men do nothing”. Of course, getting super pissed off and upset over a football game seems ridiculous to me. To my mind, there are a lot of bigger things to worry about. But I DO hate when we lose! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
One time I had someone ask me about wearing skins gear. A nice enough European guy running a coffee shop i frequented in the garden district of New orleans.
He asked something along the lines of "how do you feel about wearing that hat?" me "it's kinda embarrassing because we continually suck and you guys are the saints but you know man, that's my team." he tried to clarify he wasnt asking a sports question but I'm Just a smiling dummy and have some walk away non answer. I can say I think I did take off my skins hat when I was in Nevada or somewhere walking into a reservation type shop along the side of a road. Idk that's my only experience ... |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
Regardless even if an owner is in financial trouble there are plenty of billionaires that would be able to jump in. Hell it is more expensive to buy a house in southern California than it is to buy an NFL franchise. I bet SD has enough to buy the Skins in his cup holder in his car.

Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
Only other move I could support is Snyder moving the team to Virginia. Completely recast the name ..get rid of the name Washington... FU Washington DC...Retire the name Washington Redskins and enter a new era as Virginia "XXXX" or what ever. I would not let these fucks dictate to me what I do with my team.
Get out of Washington altogether. |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
IDK man this is the perfect free market change if you ask me. Fans have been bailing and not attending. Now the pocketbook is being hit. If you run a business and customers and business investors cease to see value you rebrand plain and simple. We can boycott Nike, Fed Ex and Pepsi as Skins fans all we want but that is a drop in the bucket financially. Most people here invest in the team be it merchandise, game tickets but the costs outweigh any financial gains made by us the fans.

Time for a change. And those saying they will not support the team do to a name change are telling a lie. When they start winning consistently you will be right back on the bandwagon.

High speed infrastructure? Metro doesn't go out there and the Toll Road is grid-locked most of the day. Getting out to Loudoun Co might be worse than getting to FedEx. |

But Virginia doesn't have any of the four major sports do they? Feel dumb now? Virginia lost the nationals to DC and Virginia couldn't get it done. DC is in the top ten for media markets I believe. |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
I have followed this issue for years and its really a non issue with most Indians. Its more media driven today then anything else. Remember the big protest they planed several years back in Green Bay and about 6 people showed up. I watched a forum that was held at some place in DC and out of all the speakers only one person was an Indian. Redskin refers to Indians that would put red clay on their faces before they would go into battle. An Indian Chief designed the logo. Most Indians say they are proud or not offended by the name. Its a non issue made into an issue by the media. I hope Dan stands his ground but I'm sure the NFL will get involved if the name is not changed.

Montgomery County and PG County comprise 2 million people. Moving the team to VA and driving there for games vs easy access to Baltimore 23 miles up the road? There are finances the team would have to take into consideration. Would they gain more fans moving into VA than they would lose? |

I honestly think they would. NoVa is just a beast of an area with growth and population boom. Good economics with the fed govt and tech companies. On the MD side .. lets be real. Ravens are just growing more and more popular. At this point, I think the Skins make more money from VA residents than MD. And its only growing. In 20 years the skins will be so dependent on VA. It makes sense as well. MD has the Ravens. No secret they add the MD flag into their logo to try and lure MD skins fans. Like when Angelos took Baltimore off the front of their jerseys and put Orioles to be more inviting to DC area fans. The future of the Skins (or whatever they will be called) is in NoVa. At some point, perhaps 15-30 years from now when DS sells the team, I could see them dropping the "Washington" as well and adopting a Virginia name if not Virginia itself. First "redskins" is changed. Second, stadium is moved to VA. Third, team drops Washington and replaces it with Virginia. Give it 30-40 years imo. Piss off. The beltway connects the entire metro area. The land is cheaper and located to the most wealthy Northern Virginia suburbs. Skins are in Richmond/Ashburn already as a training center. This is a perfect opportunity for Virginia to make an offer. The way the Washington Press and fan base have treated the Skins lately, Dan shouldn't have any compunction if the deal is close. That or do a Baltimore Colts end run and bug out all together. I sure wouldn't blame him. The Stadium has been the opposing team's home field for years. Disgusting. |
