Feels like nearly every year we fret about the OL in the preseason and things mostly turn out fine with that unit. Probably more than any other spot on the field you can mask weakness with smart schemes and coaching.
Last year wasnt that bad as Penn and Flowers stayed healthy and played maybe at a C level. But I dont think we could be competitive with that left side. That was probably the worst LT-LG starting combo week 1 imo. But all we asked is that they stay healthy and they did that. 2018 though ... Zac Kerin and Luke Bowanko made starts for us. Zac Kerin and Luke Bowanko. The shock of 2018 has not worn off on me. |
Maybe it's just me but I totally disagree with the decision not to play any preseason games this year. Expecting them to step up on the field in week 1 and be fully up to speed is asinine. A trial game for staff to adjust would be helpful too.
I'm right there with you. I wanted AT LEAST one preseason game or some sort of scrimmage with a team prior to Week 1. |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
I imagine the soft tissue injuries will be higher than usual.
I'm right there with you. I wanted AT LEAST one preseason game or some sort of scrimmage with a team prior to Week 1.
Totally agree. Just crazy that the 1st game is a huge division opener. Nothing to really go by with prior real action. It would be so awesome to beat Philly game 1. Think both teams are going to be hyped.

After six seasons with Jay I would think you would be used to week 1 being a preseason game. |

Us with poor/untested OL, Philly with OL injuries. Whats the betting on 0-0 at halftime?😁

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
The fact that the team traded for David Sharp with the Raiders tells me that the coaches are worried OL DEPTH at this point, not necessarily OL performance. That may change once the games start and we see if Christian, Martin and Moses can really hold their own in actual games. But our DL is the best part of this team, so Rivera has seen how the OL performs against some really good players.
Without depth the OL starters must play longer per game - adding to their chance of injury as we’ve seen in previous seasons. I predict the team may add more OL pickups as other teams drop decent talent! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Back ups OL usually only get in if the starting OL is hurt (or in heavy packages with extra OLs, obviously). Am I wrong ? |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Washington acquired OL David Sharpe and a 2021 seventh-round pick from the Raiders in exchange for a 2021 sixth-round pick.
Skins made a move...an indication of just has awful the Oline has looked. |

No. It's all about finding better starters on the OL. Although I'm pleased that the staff is leaving no stone unturned to find better players now, we need to remember that this is only Year One of RR's team build. It would be a miracle if the OL were to be fixed for this season. That is not a criticism. By the 2022 season, if all goes well, we should have one heckuva good OL and team. |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
David Sharpe
- 24 years old - 2017 4th round pick by the Raiders - started 2 games last year - 6'6" 330 lbs - UFA after this year - 2.1M cap hit Seems like he is not an upgrade over what we already have, which is a handful of young backup caliber players. Geron Christian, Cornelius Lucas, Parris and rookie Charles. RR had been talking up Geron Christian so I dont know if perhaps he is souring on Geron. Cornelius Lucas I think is the guy to start LT week 1. Bottom line - we get to kick the tires on a young player who will probably play some snaps this year. Low percent he becomes a long term skin but perhaps out of Sharpe, Lucas, Christian and Charles .. one of them becomes a reliable long term backup a la Nsekhe at either T spot or emerges as a Moses replacement for next year. Next year we are absolutely adding a quality starter LT. Our future LT is not currently on this roster. |

eh, depth move more than anything
It's not like we went out and got a legit starter |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
o--line is a mess. Once BS and Moses get hurt it will be unwatchable. Hopefully it will be the number one priority next year.

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
JP Finlay
@JPFinlayNBCS · 2h Another practice missed for Kendall Fuller. Concerning. Antonio Gandy Golden too, but Washington Football is not as dependent on him for Week 1 as they are Fuller. ------------ NFL teams are free to cut players whenever they want, but when the deadline of 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 5 arrives, all 32 rosters must consist of no more than 53 players on the active/inactive list. (Teams already had to trim their training camp rosters to a maximum of 80 players by Aug. 16.) ----------- Fuller has missed a lot of practices. Sean Davis is not taking many reps with the 1s. RR is talking up Apke. |

I voted Apke but Kevin Pierre-Louis aka KPL is also a name I keep hearing a lot, Keim had him as a starter with Bostic and Thomas Davis at LB in his projections. Being that we thought he'd be a depth guy, I'm quite intrigued to say the least !

What ever happened to the Riley Reiff story? Did he take a pay cut? Him being cut was supposed to be imminent but I haven’t heard anything. ???

I think it will. Everyone will be a bit raw without a preseason, but I reckon from his approach to date, RR will have them as ready as anyone week 1. And with the Eagles OL struggling, I like this match up for our 1st outing. |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Not that anyone cares ... but ...
I snagged Terry McLaurin in the 6th round and Antonio Gibson in the 11th round in my fantasy league draft tonight (14 total rounds). Felt good to grab these guys when I did. And it felt even better to resume what felt like a normal activity. Hail to the Football Team. |

Well ... my Gibson pick with the AP news this morning is looking Nostradamus-esque. But dumb luck is always needed in fantasy football. I hope this is a sign of me falling head first into a vat of dumb luck. |

Per PFT twitter - Washington just released Sean Davis.. I guess he didn't mesh well with the defense.

No one talks about him, but reports are good. Anyone see him play at Arkansas or any credible thoughts? Staff is certainly being decisive about what they are looking for.
