There's a reason why we've started 30 different QB's since 1993. Just saying. Plenty of legit blame to go around with DH on both sides.
Dwayne Haskins is a grown man and has to take personal responsibility to be ready. It is his responsibility.
I have seen in the past several proactive rookie QB's hire/pay for a personal off season QB coach. Lord knows Dwayne can afford it.
Please do not give the Covid excuse as they can wear masks. A hired personal QB coach could have helped Dwayne work on fundamentals (his terrible footwork) and help Dwayne better learn his new playbook. I don't buy the poor little Dwayne Haskins is a victim of circumstance argument. He is not in jail.
I repeat an observation I made earlier, that Dwayne showed up to his NFL combine job interview out of shape and ran a terrible 40. One of the slowest in NFL history for QB. This is a CLEAR example of his work ethic and not taking personal responsibility in the past.
He is the one that has to do the work. Nobody is going to learn it or do it for him.
You can lead a horse to water..........
People making excuses for him is not going to help him learn and work hard.
He does have his own personal trainer, it's Quincy Avery who works with Watson, Hurts and others.. But one big thing Quincy preaches is "Toe to target is not good to use anymore" And it shows with Dwayne's tape, he's hardly ever pointing towards his targets.. Watson and Hurts can get away with that "Mahomes" like method because they are great athletes..

good QB developer but he didn’t create the rule book. Dudes been doing toe to target since before any of us were born... with high success rate

This is true.

I'd like to see a Redskins version of this one, starting after Rypien.

Hey, that's Heath Shuler.

Rypien until 1993...

1994 Heath Shuler (8) / John Friesz (4) / Gus Frerotte (4)
1995 Gus Frerotte (11) / Heath Shuler (5)
1996 Gus Frerotte (16)
1997 Gus Frerotte (13) / Jeff Hostetler (3)
1998 Trent Green (14) / Gus Frerotte (2)
1999 Brad Johnson (16)
2000 Brad Johnson (11) / Jeff George (5)
2001 Tony Banks (14) / Jeff George (2)
2002 Shane Matthews (7) / Patrick Ramsey (5) / Danny Wuerffel (4)
2003 Patrick Ramsey (11) / Tim Hasselbeck (5)
2004 Mark Brunell (9) / Patrick Ramsey (7)
2005 Mark Brunell (15) / Patrick Ramsey (1)
2006 Mark Brunell (9) / Jason Campbell (7)
2007 Jason Campbell (13) / Todd Collins (3)
2008 Jason Campbell (16)
2009 Jason Campbell (16)
2010 Donovan McNabb (13) / Rex Grossman (3)
2011 Rex Grossman (13) / John Beck (3)
2012 Robert Griffin III (15) / Kirk Cousins (1)
2013 Robert Griffin III (13) / Kirk Cousins (3)
2014 Robert Griffin III (7) / Kirk Cousins (5) / Colt McCoy (4)
2015 Kirk Cousins (16)
2016 Kirk Cousins (16)
2017 Kirk Cousins (16)
2018 Alex Smith (10) / Josh Johnson (3) / Colt McCoy (2) / Mark Sanchez (1)
2019 Case Keenum (8) / Dwayne Haskins (7) / Colt McCoy (1)
2020 Dwayne Haskins (4) / Kyle Allen

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

Looking at that, it's a real shame Colt McCoy only started 7 games...while Patrick Ramsey had 24 starts!

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?
All of that may be true but it's also true he was drafted by one of the most poorly run organizations in all of sports under less than ideal conditions and not really given the support that most first round QBs get.
That's not Rivera's problem nor was his decision. This is his team now and he is acting accordingly. I'm sure he clearly recognizes Dan Snyder knows diddly about drafting pro football players.

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

Snyder should have stopped hand picking QBs after Ramsey.

Monkeydad 10-09-2020 01:44 PM

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

While Shuler was the worst, at least that was a short experiment. Playing Ramsey as long as they did was the worse decision. He was clearly terrible from the start but they kept playing him over 4 seasons. Brunell saved us short-term.

Sure DH was dealt a bad hand, but what does that have to do w/ throwing the ball high and low? Or not reading the field the right way? Or not working hard enough? The guy is immature and has sloppy fundamentals and work habits. Bye.

Unless the reports have been lies, I will have no pity for any athlete that is labeled by even his own teammates as lazy. Hard to keep a whole organization bottled up from the media all the time. Haskins needs to get his ass to work.

It is more the systemic leak things to the media for me. They did this to Robert, Kirk, Scot M. I think sometimes they just do it on purpose

Yep.

He should work harder, study more, and play better.

NFL players are always dealt bad hands. There isn't fairness in the NFL.

Bridgewater, Foles, Fitzmagic and others are constantly grinding and they keep getting signed and keep getting snaps. Who are their advocates in the politics of the NFL?

If he is this huge talent that is being treated so unfairly, demand a trade and prove RR wrong.

Cooley spoke about him unfollowing the team and RR on social media on Sheehan's pod. Super professional. Great way to make your brand appeal to other potential employers.

RR and Turner think Allen gives them a better chance to win which is indicative of a really really bad situation at QB.

If he wants to get on the field he should play better, just like the other grinders in the league.

This narrative is ridiculous.

I really don’t know whether all this is a sinister plot to defame anyone. We have 60 or so young guys that are on social media pretty much constantly, and a large staff probably doing the same. Should they be? Probably not, but I’m actually sort of surprised that more stuff doesn’t hit the news cycle every day.

On purpose? Could happen, but I don’t think so at this point.

In today’s culture it is appropriate to blame other things on your inability to succeed.. let’s see Haskins went to Major college ( I assume he graduated and got degree) .. he gets drafted in first round for one of 32 jobs on the planet .. from the moment his name was called he had a attitude.. He gets enormous payday ( more than most of us will make in a lifetime.. he gets right off the bat .. all he has to do is work hard .. take coaching and improve his weaknesses.. he has started enough games in the nfl that it’s fair to say he can be evaluated.. truth is he makes not one player around him better!! Not one ! I’m not buying into the theme that Haskins is getting a raw deal ... step up and produce !!!

I don't think these are leaks along those lines. RR has been respectful of Haskins, and also there were positive stories from the locker room after the Philly game. Every team will have these type of reports after the starting qb is benched. That is just the nature of sports media.

Put another way, these are not petty backstabbing comments, but they are straightforward answers to the question why. I would like to know that these statements were told to Dwayne in advance, ie, this is the expectation, this is what we see, and now we seem to have a shot at the division so we are going to go with Allen. If it was told upfront, it is even less like Kirk being called Kurt by the team president.

I hear you and the article where RR breaks down the test he gave Haskins in passing situations and he failed that is legit and fine. I have zero problem with the benching. When I read an article with unnamed sources and it throws out info about the person and not the performance that is when I fail to see the point in that.

Mark Brunell is one of my favorite ever football players. He was way better than what some skins fans remember him as. He had a great year in 2005. I really believe that we would have been contenders again in 2006 had it not been for Al Saunders and his 10k page playbook. Brunell was a scapegoat that last season for a horrible team that clearly had no idea what they were doing offense wise. Ladell Betts was one of the only bright spots that season.

There is no point to trade him for a 6th. zero. zilch. And some team will ascribe his failure to the dysfunction that is the Redskins under BA, and offer value. IF RR takes less than a 4th, it would be a bad sign for all future trades.

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

I think his utter, complete lack of support for his teammates and calling in sick to the game will make any team very reluctant to touch him. It's one thing to have physical traits that can be coached but a whole other thing to have a terrible, noncaring attitude. Rivera must feel disgusted at this point with him.

mooby 10-11-2020 11:32 AM

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

I can't help but feel like COVID also deserves some blame in this situation. If we had had a normal offseason and Rivera got the chance to evaluate him through the offseason, I think Allen would've had a better chance at winning the job and we could've gotten a higher pick for Haskins. As it is now his value is tanked because everybody knows Rivera wants him out. I'd be surprised if we get anything higher than a day 3 pick.

Jump in if I'm wrong, but doesn't he have a pretty sizeable cap hit for a few years as a 1st round pick?
