So with Wilson who is terrible, but can sometimes have a good game, being out and replaced by Siemian who is worse and never has a good game who do you all think we will pick at pick #8?

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

I'd love this draft.

4. Marvin Harrison Jr. - WR - Ohio State
36. Cooper Beebe - OG - Kansas State
41. Patrick Paul - OT - Houston
68. Chris Braswell - EDGE - Alabama
96. Ty'Ron Hopper - LB - Missouri
100. Tommy Eichenberg - LB - Ohio State
132. Luke Lachey - TE - Iowa
164. Drake Nugent - OC - Michigan
196. LaDarius Henderson - OT - Michigan

Here's to this man, having the game of his life:

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

A QB i definitely do not want is a running QB, where his passer ability *can make all the throws* but that’s it…..and his legs are major weapons.

Anthony Richardson, case in point was that type of first round…on a running play, season ending injury to his throwing shoulder. AR plays behind a top notch Oline.

And that's my problem with picking a QB at #4 or even if we pick at #3; we could end up reaching for a guy that is, if we're lucky, the next Lamar Jackson. More likely he's another Fields or Lance. If one of the top 2 QB prospects isn't still available, we take Harrison or one of the 2 LT's, else trade back and take a QB late 1st/early 2nd round. Reaching likely sentences us to another sub .500 season and another attempt next year. A waste.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

I would not draft Daniels at #4. Heisman trophy winners are notorious for being busts. There are a few exceptions but not many. If we are at #4 and want a QB then we need to trade up. Maybe package Allen with a number 1. If it were me and the top to QB's are taken, then I'm going LT or Harrison Jr

There is a difference in athletic, off schedule guy who uses his legs to escape, move pocket while keeping his eyes downfield and a guy who is one read, tuck and run. I rather have a guy running more of a traditional offense as well.

I’d be really happy with Maye or Williams

I’d be really worried with the LSU kid…I think he is clearly in the Penix, JJ bracket of QB prospect. Mid first round. Of course only if there is agreement with HC GM and OC…you take your guy at 4-5.

I do not want any QB at #4. Zero. Give me the o-tackle at #4.

Im fine with that but when do you take QB then? Sam Howell isn’t a QB1 so do you keep JB next year as the starter?

Take one later in the draft. You are aware we have 10 draft picks, right? I'd go with Brissett and let Howell and the draftee battle it out for second string. Not to mention, I haven't yet given up on Howell. Because Howell struggled the past several weeks automatically means he's not a QB1, huh? Maybe he isn't a starting QB, but I still believe that has yet to be determined.

We will draft a QB, but I don't "absolutely" believe it'll actually be in the first round.

I liked Howell and rooted for him like we all did and do but the last two weeks are eye opening. Maybe he’s just raw and needs more reps but man he doesn’t see the field well at all and he isn’t patient in the pocket. He also doesn’t see the short field well when guys are in the flat wide open. At the end of the day we know QB is still a need regardless

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

I'd be OK with any of these 3 scenarios but with some caveats:

1) We trade up to #1 but with a reasonable deal, not selling the house. Draft Williams @1. Trading for #2 would cost nigh on as much but for a worse risk:reward ratio so that's a no from me. Besides only way we get a trade partner for #1 or 2 is if the Bears or Patriots end up with the 3rd pick. Both highly likely to pick QB right now, and highly likely to be picks 1 & 2.
2) We stand pat at #3 or 4 and draft BPA; Harrison, Alt or Fashanu. Prefer this option, then draft a QB if right guy is there in 2nd or 3rd round.
3) Trade back and draft a QB bottom of 1st. Get a 1st round QB and still have ammo to fill our needs.

Course, this all hinges on a good GM. We need to hit on 80-90% of our picks else we're same again next year. Plus we'd lose more of the fan base.

It is hard to see any new GM stake their career with a first bold move on sticking with Sam. The shitty thing is how decent Jacoby has played. Prior to the last two games I thought we could draft a QB in first and trade Sam for a day two pick but that ship has sailed IMO. No way we can get a 2nd or 3rd for him. The good news is tons of draft capital 80 mill to spend based on current estimates there is plenty of ammo to improve this team.

The other pros about this game is that cousin Eddie is still funny as fuck

No chance will a new GM / HC duo go into next season with Howell as the starter. Yes he should be on the roster and compete with a guy but with all the money and draft picks , we will see a new QB come in at some point

We all need to pull for losses in the AFC East or chances are the Pats will regain the #3 spot. A Cards win would be nice too although that hurts us versus NE.

Posted this in the game thread by mistake.

Some bad news the Pats have to win another game or they get pick 3 back. Even though we are behind in sos right now, we play San Francisco and Dallas. Combined records of 21-9. NE plays the Jets and Bills. Combined record of 15-15. NE has to win another game. Dream scenario is cards win and NE wins. We pick second.

I don't think that is necessarily the case though it will still be tight. If you read the details on tankathon the SOS takes account of the records of all 17 opponents not just the ones played so far.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

Williams would have been drafted first overall in both 2020 [over Burrow] and 2021 [Lawrence]," another NFL general manager said. "That's no knock on either player -- and they're both really good in the league -- but Williams is a difference-maker. Joe and Trevor are distributors. Great ones. Caleb is a game-changer."

How big of a game-changer? Of the 12-plus evaluators we polled, every single one said Williams is the best quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning in 1998.

"The thing with Caleb is that he's a great passer -- on par with Burrow, Lawrence, etc. -- but he's also a great runner -- on par with Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen," said an NFC area scout with over 20 years of experience. "That's the thing people miss. He's the best prospect maybe ever at both components [combined]."
