If they wanted a vet, should have just upped the offer to Brissett 8-9 million and signed him.

Mariota is trash and quit on ATL like a bitch

He got benched for Ridder who is arguably the worst QB in the league. I have no idea what they see in him, even as a backup. Jacoby is way better.

Signed Dorace Armstrong, Clelin Ferrell, and Dante Fowler.

KJ Henry is currently on the roster, I see them drafting another edge rusher at some point

China replaces Kurl and is an upgrade.

Still need one more Edge guy but can probably draft one.

Qb , Lt , WR , CB

Stop being pollyannish - Chinn is most definitely not an upgrade on Curl (a significant down grade in fact). That said he is a lot more economical (Curl will get 8-10 mil or more a year versus just 5 mil for Chinn). I'm not criticizing the signing just pointing out what it is.

Chinn is a vet presence in a safety room full of young safeties. I definitely don't see him as a replacement for Curl. From what I have heard from Keim, the coaching staff seems to like and want to further develop Martin and Forrester. It would not surprise me if they draft a safety or sign another vet.

I dont view Curl as being as good as some of you, so I definitely think Chinn can replace him.

The draft is right there bro. The point is to keep a rotation. As of right now Ferrell starts, Fowler is in on pass rush situations.

I must not having been watching the same games. I didn't see much out of curl that screamed out to me. Solid? sure, but not ed reed/ST etc. He's replaceable and this FA class was/is full of 26-27 year old solid safeties. Chinn will probably be fine and used more in run support.

Safety and RB are places where you can go cheap (in a 4-3, you can also generally have average DEs and 1 garbage LB and still be okay).

We really do need an OT and true #1 CB in the worst way though, and this isn't a great FA class for those.

Chinn is not here as a mentor (he is 26), and if he can stay healthy (like anyone else), and is used properly (like anyone else) can certainly be an upgrade from the mighty Kam Curl, or any other safety on our team. Okie is 100 percent right.

got remember too curl was on a team swimming in bad players it didn't take much to stand out on the 23 commanders D

if i go ask my buddy big nfl/steelers fan if he knows curl i am guessing no, curl is nothing special to the nfl

not saying chinn is setting the league on fire but maybe adam sees a equal or better player at a discounted rate then curl ; we need value signings more then every signing being a homerun/ blockbuster

the worst thing we can do is use up a ton of cap space on high profile players that are ,considering the current state of our team, only going to marginally help us

This 100 percent. Even if the player is a bonafide stud you cannot break the bank with so many holes to fill. It is a team sport. The trick is to draft right, and get solid starters in FA and upgrade the team. Look at the Giants. They tossed huge money at Burns. He is a great player no doubt, and now they will have a guy with 15 sacks on a 4 win team. We have spent wisely and acquired 8 starters who instantly make us better. 8 starters who are an upgrade over what we had. Some are a vast upgrade. Absolutely the smartest FA period we have witnessed in years.

OT, CB, QB in the draft is now pretty set in stone imo and there are plenty of them available.
At number 2 is clearly the QB. With our two seconds and two thirds we can get an OT, and CB that should be pretty much bpa anyway. With the rest of the picks we can go bpa all the way. This is an exciting time to be a fan.

And we have a GM who recognized this and cleaned more than a few holes in FA. Amazing.

All the new guys minus the K are under 30 if Im not mistaken. Also all 1-2 year contracts. They shine we sign. It is really amazing to watch a build done correctly. Been a while since Beathard and Co treated us to such things. I am certainly not saying we have returned to greatness but if we are going to this is a mighty fine start/opportunity to do so.

While I want them to draft an OT, we need at least two and any OT at the #36 pick is not going to be ready to go from the first snap so I would be concerned about having him block the blindside of our shiny new rookie QB. If we are going to start a rookie OT then they really need to trade back into rd 1 in the 20s to get one of the better OTs. Either way they still need to sign a starting OT and a swing Tackle in FA. Then start the rookie at RT and a FA at LT, but having a good swing tackle will allow him to step in if the rookie struggles.

Yeah the really highly touted OT’s will be gone by the second. But the Princley (cant remember his last name) and Jordan Morgans of the world will be there at 36 possibly.

Didn’t someone post something on here recently about the success rate of OT’s drafted in the top 10 vs being drafted in the first few rounds in general?
It heavily favored the ones drafted later. Anyway I would not be opposed to- at all - grabbing an OT in FA - a veteran who can hold their own like you said.

The good thing is it is a deep class for Tackles, and we have plenty of draft capital to basically do what we want to get our guy(s).

Also, it's not a popular take, but they could be planning on Wylie holding down that RT spot for another year.

Spare me the thought of Wiley at RT. They could install a turnstile at RT instead.

I think they'll pick up a veteran T in FA and draft one in Round 2. They may even use some draft capital to move up into Round 1 to get one they are high on.

Also, some teams who pick a T in Round 1 may release a veteran league-average T who we could pick up.

We could also use a little WR help too. Not as high a priority as OT or CB, but still important.

I'm not criticizing Chinn, not everyone we pick up can be an upgrade. Curl is better, far better, and I'm not the only one who thinks that, as outside of many Redskins fans (since yesterday) everyone thinks that. He is a fine tackler, but he can't cover, he never could even in the 2020-2021 seasons. They used him more as a hybrid LB/SS in 2020-2021. I'm sure the coaching staff knows that and will use him appropriately.

Yes. I like the idea of trying to get Xavier Worthy to take the top off the defenses we face. He is also an outstanding PR/KR which we haven't had in a long, long time.

This is what is bugging me about the apparent lack of FA action at OT, we need 3, even if we do draft one high that still leaves 2, and I have heard some talking heads who you would assume are somewhat in the know talking like Wylie is part of the plan. If it is Wylie and a rookie starting at OT next year our rookie QB could get the crap beating out of him.

True, but I would hope our front office isn't expecting this as part of their plan. Good chance to get an above average swing/backup, but not to count on getting a starter

Like I said, it's not a popular take on here, but we don't know how the new coaching staff feels about Wylie. I really don't think it's out of the question that he is the starting RT to begin the season. It's probably not ideal, but not out of the question.

More from
@mike_e_kaye on new Commanders LB/S Jeremy Chinn: "A guy that's a tweener safety/linebacker...A seek and destroy player that should be close to the line...Not an interchangeable safety, he should be in the box...Sometimes versatility can be the enemy of progress."

Concur with both these assessments. I think Luvu is the most sensible (ie best) signing since Fletcher. And yes that is what I've been trying to point out about Chinn.
