Re: The Never Ending Thread
Well, I don't have a teaching certificate, but I do have a master's degree. That is apparently gold to school systems, and they can give me a 3-5 year waiver til I get it. All the while I'd be making around 40k and only working 9 months out of the year. What's not to love there? I am a huge jock, so doing PE is right up my alley.
So why would you be envious.

I am only applying...I figure until you try, you won't achieve. I must at least try, at worst they can say no.
Teaching is what I really want to do, unfortunately I have bills to pay. If they would just pay school teachers better they would have better competition for the jobs. But nobody wants to pay more taxes.

Re: The Never Ending Thread
What happened to wanting to use your background in Finance in your next job?
I'm actually appying to both the PE position and elementary Math. I feel that PE would be a perfect fit for me and I would really enjoy it, and actually make a difference with my job.
I actually want to use my degree, doesn't mean it has to be in finance...in the job world it would. I applied to financial positions in Phoenix. But being a teacher you are required to have a masters, so I would be using it.
Hopefully that makes sense.

How much do they pay teachers out there?

The average salary is 52k...for 9 months work, that is DAMN good.
The beginning salary is 37ish, that's not bad.
I'd be started at around 40k, and I think for 9 months of work, that's wonderful.

But for the cost of living in this area it is not enough. You have to have a second job and a spouse that works just to make ends meet.

Well, across the country a second income seems to be required. But how much is the average house out there?
I know that my wife will be getting 60-100k, so I can afford to make 40k, but I'm talking in the Denver area where it will cost me 250k or so for a house.

Small houses in this area are in the 400,000 to 500,000 price range. It's crazy!

Damn, that sucks...that's why I won't move back to Boston. My brother got a place in Wakefield (not the best of towns, but not bad) only 1650 square feet, and was built in the 1940's ish, he bought it for 610k. He pays over 4500 a month in mortgage. I pay $540...hahaha. Point is, that is f-ing retarded! I WONT pay it.

My brother bought a home in Woodbridge 1 year ago. He paid 400k for a small 3 BR. I cannot remember the SQ Footage, but it isn't big at all. Elsewhere in the country you can damn near get a mansion for that kind of money.

Hell yeah...not that anyone wants to live here, but I have a 2000sq ft house with a hot tub, and it's worth about 110-120k. If I paid 400k for a house here, it could be over 5k sq ft easy. Or 3k-4k sq ft on the river!
I've already looked at houses in the Denver area (centennial area seems to be the best) and I can easily get a 2000-2300 sq ft house for 250k.

I was looking at Real Estate near Houston not too long ago. Beautiful and huge homes for about 350-500k. If I could find an employer to relocate me there I would do it in a heartbeat. Then I would be able to pick on Dallas fans on a regular basis.

The place that I was looking at was about 1 hour away. It was a gorgeous area. I agree that I am not fond of the heat, but I would suck it up for one of them homes. Yes I would be willing to comute 1 hour to and from work everyday.

That's actually a 2 hour commute every day, and that would suck. If you worked an 8 hour day, you're actually looking at a 10 hour work day. No thanks.
San Antonio is much nicer, and much cheaper FYI.
Galveston is a great place to vacation, it's a different world down there. It's only about 45 minutes away.

I was already putting up with that kind of commute here for a while, before i started working nights. At least there it would not be bumper to Bumper getting to and from work. I checked the traffic congestion level, it's lower than here.

That is true...DC is pretty bad. The only places that I have seen worse are NYC / Boston / and L.A.

Move to Denver man...it's a great city, traffic isn't that bad, and they pay very well for the cost of living. Plus the scenery is top notch.

Denver is on a plateau, you'd only be in the mountains if you lived in the mountains, or was visting the mountains.

That wouldn't completely surprise me. I have a lot of posts here. Although I have been accused of starting too many threads, so it might be under 50%...maybe 49.8%. :D

Ok, what the heck is wrong with J. D. Gibbs? Someone please tell him to keep his mouth shut. He made a comment to ESPN that basically if Coach has another losing season this year he would have to return to JGR.

This vexes me greatly.

What's going to happen first:

Bonds hits 756 OR
Quake catches me in posts?

He needs 255, and that would take him about 6 days if I just stop posting.

To be honest, I would say 2 nights at most, but Bonds should get 756 sometime this year.

Mabye that can be a poll.

How exactly did it come out over the air? I didn't see it, but I do know that JD was joking. Basically saying "Well if the Redskins can't use, we certainly can" after he restored order over the weekend with his racing team

In this article towards the bottom. The way it's written it didn't seem like a joke. Of course I'm sensitive about Coach, so maybe I read too much into it.
