Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
I'm a single issue voter this cycle - stop Trump but Biden is not making it easy. Is he trying to lose?
"Biden doing it all wrong. President Biden appears behind in all the swing states and his campaign appears all-too-focused on firming up his political base on the left with his new shift on Israel, a $7 trillion budget, massive tax increases and failing to connect on the basic issues of inflation, immigration and energy. By pitching too much to the base, he is leaving behind the centrist swing voters who shift between parties from election to election and, I believe, will be the key factor deciding the 2024 race....." Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
I'm beginning to think one of three things - Biden is actively trying to lose, he is an idiot, or 3 he is senile and those who are handling him are idiots (I tend to lean toward the later). His race baiting speech at Morehouse was yet another action that will drive the center and those who are never Trumpers away. Does he honestly think shoring up the far left of his base is how to win?

Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
From Biden's remarks at Normandy "In memory of those who fought here, died here, literally saved the world here, let us be worthy of their sacrifice. Let us be the generation that when history is written about our time- in 10,20,30,50, 80 years from now-it will be said: When the moment came, we met the moment. We stood strong. Our alliances were made stronger. And we saved democracy in our time as well."
"Now we have to ask ourselves: Will we stand against tyranny, against evil, against crushing brutality of the iron fist? Will we stand for freedom? Will we defend democracy?..My answer is yes" Senator Rick Scott called these remarks disgusting. Hmmm ' |

Afraid that might be part of the mystery. I don't know what my favorite part is and as a science teacher there is a lot to unravel. I did enjoy the part about a boat sinking under its own weight. Somebody is going to lose their job in quality control for that. |

Trump, the one presidential candidate with courage enough to confront the greatest twin threats of our time: sharks and electric boat batteries. At a recent rally, Trump brought up the dilemma that’s keeping so many Americans who ride through shark-infested waters in battery-powered boats awake at night: “What would happen if the boat sank from its weight, and you’re in the boat and you have this tremendously powerful battery, and the battery is now underwater and there’s a shark that’s approximately 10 yards over there?” |

Sad to say it but Hunter Biden has lost my vote. He should resign from public office immediately if he is in fact holding a public office. |

The biggest deception by both parties is that moderate non party aligned candidates have no chance. Both parties equally work hard to maintain and protect this deception, but an independent sane moderate ticket without obstacles placed by the two parties would win with 40 to 50% of the vote.

Trump actually had a good proposal - Keeping foreign college graduates once they get their degrees. That is an idea I've had for years (Basically rob your competitors of their best minds - and especially the Chinese). Oh before any of the usual suspects get their panties in a bunch that doesn't mean Trump is no longer an enemy of the Constitution - it's just a good idea that should be adopted.

Another trump flunky abusing his power and being a hypocrite.
https://news.yahoo.com/news/jim-jordan-subpoenas-company-trump-192139698.html Jim Jordan subpoenas company of Trump judge’s daughter The House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed the company that employs the daughter of Juan Merchan, the New York judge who is overseeing former President Trump’s hush money trial. The subpoena escalates a brewing battle between the panel’s Subcommittee on Weaponization of the Federal Government and the company, Authentic Campaigns, which previously rebuffed lawmakers’ demands to turn over any communications the company had with Merchan, noting they simply don’t exist. The letter from Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) asks CEO Mike Nellis to sit for a deposition with the company and sign a sworn affidavit that the company never communicated with Merchan. Nellis had previously mocked Jordan, calling it absurd to suggest that his company would have any dealings with an employee’s parent, while noting that the firm does not perform services for the campaigns of either President Biden or Vice President Harris, and its political work has no connection to the outcome of Trump’s hush money trial. |

Actually no, they may say they want to cut taxes on the middle class but most of the tax rates they have passed hit the middle class more than any other group, ACA being the perfect example. The biggest losers from the ACA were those in the lower to mid middle class that didn't qualify for the subsidies (resulting in millions no longer having insurance at all - yes even more poorer people did gain insurance but it was at the expense of the lower middle class) while the rest of the middle class and higher had their Medical costs shy-rocket. And the recent Dem economic policies have been downright awful. The Inflation Reduction Act should have been called the Inflation Acceleration Act (Heck there wasn't any part of it designed to lower inflation, and its' actual results weren't really a surprise to anyone) - that was a massive hit on the middle class. |

I made this comment in another thread. Inflation post COVID was a worldwide issue, if you look at where the US ranked in 2023 on the list we are far far down that list. To blame the Biden Administration for a problem that was a global problem and far worse in so many other countries is flat out wrong. By the way the Inflation Reducton Act succeeded. Inflation was cut nearly in half from 22 to 23. . As for the ACA the income limits for subsidies goes to $58,320, For a 2 person household that figure goes up to $78,880. That is most definitely middle class in America so again your claim that the ACA prevents lower and middle class workers from qualifying is simply not backed up by the facts. https://www.goodrx.com/insurance/aca/aca-income-limits
I said accelerated which means inflation was already moving and any economist will tell you that the Inflation Reduction Act contributed to the increase in the inflationary rate (In fact none of it was designed to lower inflation, the name was pure propaganda). As for the ACA rates are based on 400 times the federal poverty level. They only take into account insurance rates for adjustment not the cost of living for different areas. Middle class (family of three) varies according to an areas cost of living. You used the middle-class definition at the national level 49-148K, but in Maryland for example it is $66k-197K and in really high areas (San Fran) it begins at $250K. Millions of people, all middle class, who had insurance prior to ACA, had to drop insurance and do without because it massively drove up costs and they couldn't afford it any longer. There were winners and losers in ACA, and the biggest losers came from the middle class. |
I said accelerated which means inflation was already occurring and any economist will tell you that the Inflation Reduction Act contributed to the increase in the inflationary rate (In fact none of it was designed to lower inflation the name was pure propaganda).
As for the ACA it was those above that 58K and 78K threshold to about the 90k area that had been paying for insurance previously but were knocked off when they no longer could afford it. There were winners and losers in ACA. and the biggest losers came from the middle class.
But that's now what you said. You referenced lower and middle class earners who could not qualify for the ACA. $58 grand is not lower class. It's firmly middle class and which starts at $43,350 as defined by the Pew Research Center. Safe to say there are tens of millions of Americans who earn below $58 grand, which includes lower and middle class earners, who most definitely qualify for the ACA. Of course there will be "experts" who claim the Inflation Reducton Act actually increased inflation. It was enacted late in 2022. Inflation went from 9.84 in '22 to 4.06% in '23. Today it sits at 2.9% Where I come from that's called scoreboard. It worked, obviously. |

And again none of the Inflationary Reduction Act had measures in it designed to reduce inflation (none), on the contrary it was full of policies that any basic economics teacher will tell you contributes to inflation. That act had nothing to do with inflation coming back down. |

According to a new report, six in 10 employers say they have already sacked some of the Gen Z workers they hired fresh out of college earlier this year. Intelligent.com, a platform dedicated to helping young professionals navigate the future of work, surveyed nearly 1,000 U.S. leaders. It found that the class of 2024’s shortcomings will impact future grads. After experiencing a raft of problems with young new hires, one in six bosses say they’re hesitant to hire college grads again. Meanwhile, one in seven bosses have admitted that they may avoid hiring them altogether next year. Three-quarters of the companies surveyed said some or all of their recent graduate hires were unsatisfactory in some way. |
