Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
We definitely need to draft a guard on the first day this year.
On a Cowboys note since you are of the more unbiased of Cowboys fans around here. What have been your early criticisms of Leonard Davis? I haven't caught any of their games besides Sportscenter stuff and was wondering if he was worth the price.
I've only seen one Dallas pre-season game so far, and he was killing it. He had a bunch of pancakes, and no one was getting by him. Granted that games was against the Colts, but he looked solid. |
Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
I don't mind the move as far as value is concerned.
I'm not crazy about the fact that they are bringing him in so late in camp. I feel like they should have known they had a hole there at that spot a while ago. The thing that bothers me is not the move but the continued lack of foresight on the part of the management team - it is actually giving me a headache as we speak. |
How old is this guy? Is he a geezer. If he is a younger FA I don't have a problem with it, but if he is a Bruce Smith type, it is just going to be a short term fix for a long term problem. WE could have acquired a G with that 5th rounder next season. ASctually we shoud have drafted a G this year.
Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Didn'ta. Who cares what we should have done 6 months ago? Do you have a time machine that can take us back so we can acquire a guard? The point is we thought Wade could handle the switch. It was a reasonable assumption at the time because he's a darn good athlete. But now he's banged up, and Samuels is banged up, and JC almost lost an ACL the other day. We need depth at T as well as a stronger G. It makes sense to bring in Kendall to strengthen G and allow Wade to strengthen T. It does no good to bitch and moan about what should have been done 6 months ago. All I care about is what the team is doing now to win. |
Fabini and Kendall started together in 2004 on the left side of that Jets line, when Curtis Martin ran for nearly 1700 yards.
Did someone forget to pickup Fabini at the airport or something? The guy's been MIA. |

The thing that bothers me is not the move but the continued lack of foresight on the part of the management team - it is actually giving me a headache as we speak.
It's all about Wade. They thought he'd make a good G. Seemed reasonable at the time because he's a very good athlete. But now he's banged up and was struggling in camp. Besides, they had a G they really liked in Will Whitticker (sp?). He was mauling in camp before he tore up his knee. Can't fault them for lack of foresight here. They had a career T who has been a fantastic athlete, and they had a young prospect in Whitticker as a backup option. It's not like they didn't have a plan B. Plan A has a banged up shoulder and isn't adjusting that fast. Plan B looked good, but tore up his knee. Now they need a plan C. Better than being stubborn and trying to force Plan A. |
Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
dockery or kendall?? i will take kendall any day of the week. docks potential far out weighs kendalls but kendall is a classic crafty veteran. he will prove to be a far better deal than dock would have been....he will help us in a position of need and i think he will play as good if not better than the dock when he was here last year....DOES HE START GAME 1??

Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
I agree about the lack of foresight point--it was surprising to me that they thought Wade could make the shift. But I accept that Bugel and Gibbs know a bit more about OLine development than I do--not to drink the koolaid, but they do have some experience there.
And I think they were optimistic about Whitticker--plus, Samuels going down really exposed that side of the line. It was basically the worst thing that could happen, if they were trying to work in a new LG. So several things came together there. This was a necessary move AT THIS POINT. Several months ago, maybe we could have done something different, but that's hindsight. |
Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
Suppossedly Kendall is having his physical now (5:25 PM EDT) and will return to Redskins Park tonight to sign his deal and talk to the press. (Assuming he passes the physical - Give him a good one Doc, I don't trust that Mangini)

Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
So you'd rather move forward with the disaster that is our current LG situation?
That's the problem here. The Todd Wade experiment was clearly not panning out. He's banged up and hasn't given any indication that he'll be up to starter quality by the time week one arrives. Would you rather roll with Pucillo as your starting LG? If the goal is to win football games, I'd say that's a pretty bad idea. Are we happy about giving up a draft pick to shore up LG? Of course not. But it's WAY better than the alternative, which is lose.
Schneed - you also forgot to add to your last sentence "and even worse - potentially losing your starting quarterback". I think when I look at this move I like it because the FO is trying to provide JC a line he can depend on and not worry about getting knocked out on a weekely basis - essential for a young qb. What this move does is solve 2 problems - shoring up the LG spot and also allows Wade to go back to backup tackle - his natural position. Do we think Samuels and Jansen will hold up the entire year - if not we got some insurance in Wade now. |
Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
YES!!!!!! Finally a move that makes sense. Nobody hates trading draft picks for older players more than I do but this move was much needed. I feel sooooooo much better about our upcoming season now. This drastically changes the look of our entire o-line.
Another thing to keep in mind about trading picks for older players is that the coaching staff knows that if they don't scrape some wins together now they may not be a part of the skins' future. I also agree that if they hadn't squandered past picks we could have drafted a quality guard...but that is water under the bridge. The FO seems to assign more worth to their picks now so we should eventually be able to pull ourselves out of this hole and start doing things the RIGHT way. Can you imagine a draft where we still own all our picks? what a sweet dream. |
Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
GOOD MOVE! I can just see JC's knee getting better...and Portis and Betts smiling.
Don't get sentimental over Marshall as when he was here he played well but no well enough to win. You have to get the players that will win now...Gibbs may not be around in 3 years to see a rookie gaurd finally play up to potential. See a need, fill a need! Where Have I heard that? I know! Some animated movie my kids watch over and over...I am getting old!!! |
Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
I with the group think on this one. Couldn't have made a better move given the current situation. I also agree that Buges probably couldn't have been dealt a worse hand than losing Samuels this preseason. Wade needed an anchor to his left to help guide him and teach him the position. With Heyer out there it was like the blind leading the deaf (no offense to those with hearing or sight impairments).
I wonder if they'll throw PK in there this weekend since it is Collins and not Campbell starting. Do they give PK a trial by fire so to speak or work him in slow, sit him this weekend, and let Collins potentially get blown up by the Ravens D. |
Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
Perfect deal...we need to make sure we have the plans in place to replace HIM....but that was obviously a big need on our end...
|
Re: KENDALL to the Redskins (confirmed)
this is a good move. 5th for a starting quality guard when it's an obvious need makes a lot of sense. too bad they didn't address it sooner, like during the last two drafts though :/
