Not defending CP but you have to admit that the OLine was actually pushing ppl out of the way yesterday. which has not been seen much this season.

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!

I think this conversation needs to start by talking about the OL. They did a great job (finally) and dominated the LOS all day. That's where an effective running game starts and ends, it's all up front. That said I do like how Betts attacks the LOS. He's much quicker and decisive. He takes the ball and just goes. I like the way he finishes his runs too, always falling forward fighting for more. At this point Betts has a lot less mileage on him than Portis and is much healthier.

The oline did play well, but I don't think that was the difference...we had a LT who hadn't played in years and a new guard going against a very good defense. The difference was Ladell. He got the yards CP doesn't get because of his lack of vision. Betts is the difference (and Rock).

the offensive line is always the reason for a good running game......ALWAYS.....

portis doesnt get the help from the offensive line that betts got.....he doesnt get the same defensive looks when he is in the game

some of you guys are no better than your teams owner.....you are completely blinded by the fact that your team is struggling this year.....clinton portis is easily your best player.....easily a top 5 running back in the league on a bottom 5 team in the league......you guys make me laugh

look back the Falcons game and ask:

has Portis been running as hard as Betts and Cartwright?

has Portis been decisive in hitting the correct hole like Betts and Rock did?

I think there's something to be said about the fact Portis doesn't practice all week and then trots out there on Sundays.

1) Actually Barry Sanders, for just one example, had some fine years running behind a shaky o-line. While good o-line play is quite helpful for a running game, your "always" statement is simply not true.

2) as for your Portis point, you continue to completely ignore all evidence that contradicts your assertion. Such unintelligent thinking makes me laugh...

Im sorry you haven't had a TV and have been unable to watch NFL football for the past 2 years...that must suck.

Top 5 back? uhhh not even close.

AP, Jones-Drew, Chris Johnson, Cedric Benson, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Frank Gore, Westbrook, Stephen Jackson.....ALL out class CP.

Huge factor...

It sounds like he NEVER practices during the week. How does he even see the field on Sundays? He shouldn't.

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!

I think Portis has a big chance here to be the better man and take his role as the 2nd (or 3rd) RB. I know we're not paying him all that money to be that role, but he should put the team first.

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!

Betts had a good game, maybe the problem is portis after all, I would like to use a larger sample than one game though.

lol name one more......barry sanders is a hall of fame back for a reason....you are completely ignoring my point......you dont have a barry sanders type back on your team and there will likely never be another one like him

there is always an exception to the rule but the rule is a rule for a reason.....portis is still a top 5 back despite being injured and playing behind a terrible line, and terrible team

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!

Two or three serviceable backs are better than one high mileage, no practice back. The rest of the league gets it now we need to follow suit. I thank Portis for his service during his years in Washington. He has given us very good years, but to be effective you have to gain more than 2 yards a run.

When trying to give a message to all players, you can not keep paying and playing a back who does not give his all in the off-season, who does not practice and who is one of the highest paid on the team. Great message to the newer or younger players!!!!

I think I just saw the headline which should of been plastered all over the papers today:

LIFE AFTER PORTIS: REDSKINS WIN!

sorry.....i forgot that clinton portis was an all pro and made the pro bowl last season and had the 4th most rushing yards in the league

its a shame that you guys bash your own player this bad considering he is easily the best player on your team

he doesnt practice all week because he doesnt have to.....practicing gets you reps......obviously his numbers show he doesnt have to get reps during practice to be successful

you guys are looking at a 1 game sample size to judge whether betts is the better running back.....truth is that portis is paid like a #1 because he is a #1 and doesnt have help from anyone else on the team

betts has had 1 1000 yard season and that was when portis got hurt in 2006

portis consistantly goes over 1400 yards on the season.....it looks like he wont go over that this year but your team also wont go anywhere this year.....when portis carries the team you guys do well.......when you get cocky and think its more about the team than him, you guys go 3-6

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!

CantonLegend you can choose to follow the same path even though you know that path gets you no where! Or you can go a different route and work harder to try and get where you want to go!!!

Betts is not an all pro all of a sudden...He will do in this offense as we need to stop relying on one player and everyone must contribute!!!
