Re: Redskins Hatters In The Media

Anyone who uses the Bengals as an example of a franchise that is not subject to media ridicule sees the world through burgandy and gold colored glasses. The Redskins are treated like gods in the Pantheon compared to the scorn heaped on the Bengals for being cheap and for signing thugs/criminals. The team's refusal to consider trading their franchise QB who said he would retire rather than take another snap in Cincy has been a source of criticism there for about 5 months now.

The Redskins QB situation is different from the one's in Carolina and Seattle. The Panthers and the Seahawks face the same kind of challenge that the Skins face - - selecting a QB from a set of choices where every one of the choices has some warts. (Throw in the Dolphins and Browns here too - - and if Kevin Kolb is injured or lays an egg in Arizona, add them to this list.) HOW-EVAH:

In none of those other cities has the QB situation ALSO had this feature:
A 6-time Pro Bowl QB on the roster and the head coach got into a pissing contest last year that the team could not keep under wraps and necessitated the QB competition that is ongoing here.
That did not happen in Carolina or Miami or Cleveland or Cincy or Arizona or Seattle. (Matt Hasselbeck signed a bigger contract in Tennessee than Seattle was offering; that is different from getting traded because the QB and head coach and offensive coordinator could not play well together.)

If you want to continue to believe that the only reason for the Skins getting negative publicity is because the media hates the team for whatever reasons make sense to you, continue to do so. If that is what it takes to make you happy until the Redskins can assemble a team that can win 10 games or more in a season two years in a row, keep it rolling...

3 Super Bowl rings > 6 Pro Bowls.

Not saying the Redskins don't deserve some of the blame. My beef is that the balance for criticism seems to be off. Winning might solve a lot.

I'll also say that a great deal of what I get pissed at probably comes from former players that know frak all about what they're saying.

Clearly another negative article about the Redskins. I read the entire thing and the jist of it is:

Blah blah blah

blah blah blah

blah blah blah

Redskins quarterbacks suck.

blah blah blah

blah blah Orakpo Trent Williams

blah blah blah.

/sarcasm, Dan Graziano is easily one of the more level headed analysts as far as the 'Skins are concerned.

It's a "what you have you done for me lately" business. It's been 20 years....

Exactly. Most of us should be happy we've even gotten the chance to experience a Super Bowl win.

That's a pretty fair run-down. I'm still getting used to people referring to us as "young" - over the years that has been a rare adjective to describe us.

Re: Redskins Hatters In The Media
The thing is, I really feel like there's teams out there with FAR worse quarterback situations than ours.

The Panthers anyone? The Panthers are looking to have to choose between starting Cam Newton, Jimmy Clausen, and friggin' Derek Anderson. Are people looking forward to the Dalton/Gradkowski/Jordan Palmer battle in Cinci? How is T-Jack vs. Whitehurst any better than Grossman vs. Beck? Career underacheiver vs. career back-up?

But you don't hear the same kind of reservations about those situations, and those situations are approached with class and from an analytical perspective. They're not any better off than we are, but still, people come at it from a football analysis.

When we get to the Redskins though? It's a completely different dynamic. Like I said, there's an almost gleeful dismantling of our status as a football team, despite the moves we've made to get better. There are a lot of teams in rebuild mode, but it's the complete inverse of what we typically get.

Right now we're getting raked over the coals for NOT spending, for deciding to go with our own (and Beck and Grossman are our own, for the most part) and spend wisely. Meanwhile, a division rival is doing the exact thing that doomed so many of our seasons and they're being treated like the friggin' champions of the world.

And my point of contention is that, even if this football team was in a much better place, and we were truly a few pieces away from being a contender...we'd be getting MURDERED right now if we signed that many free agents, and put our cap situation in danger when we have to pay so many guys, spending money on big names while one of our homegrown talents that's been a playmaker for us holds out for money that he deserves. We wouldn't hear the end of it.

I understand and know that going into a season where Rex Grossman and John Beck is less than ideal. Way less. But the level of disrespect towards the team just seems to go beyond "what are they thinking" into thinking we're some sort of comedy side show, when in reality we made real strides towards making the football team better.
Hey Bro I love your passion and you are speaking the truth. I'm telling you that most of this Hate is really directed towards Dan Synder. Many people in the NFL and the Media still dislike Synder because all he wanted to do is win a Super Bowl for DC by spending for the best players. Hey at least he is learning now that his way did not get us a Super Bowl so now he hired Bruce and Shanny to get us back to being a Great Organization again. Our fans and some ex-Redskins are our own worst haters cause they have a issue with Synder. So they want to blast the Redskins for any reason. To all the so called Redskins fans it's about the team not the owner. I suggest some of you go to Youtube and watch our great teams (1982-1983,1987, 1991) of the past which can refresh your memory of our great Redskin History. I was growing up during the era when the Redskins were awful and became Super Bowl Champs. We need to come together and support our Coaches and Owner to regain our Greatness. HTTR
