Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
Never suggested we have ed reed I was going by the whole premise that you can't get FA's to fill in your secondary to be good. Houston did it a few years ago with Johnathan Joesph and Daniel Manning; their defense went from 32nd to top 5 I believe.
Steelers aren't a good example anymore because they've really gone down hill. Seahawks I'll agree with.
What I think their not getting is Josh Wilson is not very good. He's ok. Hall is slightly better but cost the team 2 games with his antics and 15yrd penalties. If Hall is not being brought back at a lower price then we need a Talib or Toler, or Smith. You can't go into the season with Rookie CB's and expect them to know the defense 100%. As well as technique. It would be nice if colleges taught technique now a days but they don't have time for that. So whoever the team drafts might have problems at the start. That is why it's nice to pick up a seasoned Vet to help out and to help teach the new guys. Basically there has to be a mixture of Vets and Rookies. and... if there is someone out there better then Wilson we'd be a fool not to try and get them. |

For as bad as the penalty is, at least we aren't oakland:
Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen Raiders reportedly going to have $30M in dead cap space this year & are talking w/ Vince Young. Has to be tough to be a Raiders fan. |

Definitely feel sorry for their fans. |

Are you sure about that? if they have 30M in dead cap, 15M in cap space, that would mean their current cap charges are about 78M, 13M of which is Carson Palmer alone. I don't think you can field a team at the 65M mark, can you? Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
Are the Skins gonna have to trade a current player for a CB/S on another team? Is there a big June 1st cut looming? I can't see how any FA difference-makers can be afforded.
|
Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
We cant afford it now without a restructure. But keep in mind, its a deep draft for secondary. I think there will be a lot of safeties and CB's getting cut during TC due to the new crop of rookies coming into the league. So trading a player for secondary help is something I dont see happening.

Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
they killed june 1st cuts more or less. you can designate 2 june 1st cuts and release them now instead.

I think part of the plan from day one was to go down the entire roster and have veteran players restructure contracts. We still don't know who the Redskins will sign in free agency or what's left of free agency, but it's good to know that we have players that are all about the good of the team. |

Maybe i'm being overly cynical, but I think its less about players doing whats good for the team and more about players realizing what we're offering them is still more than theyd get from anywhere else. |

Not sure where exactly, but right up against it is probably the most accurate description. Where u been hiding? |
Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
Sorry all, I'll get to an update as soon as I can. Info is scarce so it will be full of assumptions and ultimately will confirm what Shanahan has been saying, that we have little to no room.
Get comfortable. Our free agents will come few and far between as we search for value in character guys with something left to prove. There's something to be said for the locker room impact of having multiple guys who feel they have to scratch and claw to earn their stripes. |
