Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB
If you play Griffin you have to play all or at least most of the starters. Not sure that's worth it for a couple of series against scrubs.

Yeah we talked about it this morning. He is still deciding. |

I was thinking it may boost his confidence (assuming he did well). SS and Cooley both said he needs a confidence builder game. |

i agree but i wonder if BA wants to stay away from PR problems. my fan vote is for the starters to not play. yes RG3 needs a confidence boost but there is no guarantee that he will play well against tampa and that might compound the confidence issue. also, pretty clear we havent shown our true offense which i think is a major reason our 1st team offense hasnt looked great. why run RG3 out there to practice plays if we wont be running bootlegs and PAs. we are going to light the league up come week 1. taking names and kicking ass. |

Judging how our 1st team offense played this pre-season, they should all be playing. It's obvious they need the work. |
Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB
I wouldn't want to risk anyone to injury at this point. Especially playing against scrubs, I don't see where the benefit outweighs the risk. It's not like practice reps don't count.

And then when one gets injured, it's "why are they playing in a meaningless preseason game" again, just like when it happened to Portis. |

Oh god, that was the beginning of the end for Portis. It was his shoulder. |
Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB
If the offense is going to be good or bad, one or two series in the 4th pre season game isn't going to make a difference. Leave them on the sideline. The work has already been put in. We'll know week one.

You can say that about any game or any practice they are involved in. Injuries are going to happen regardless. |

Correct. But it becomes a risk/ reward scenario. It is too risky to play RGIII in a meaningless pre-season game with the reward of a few more snaps for him in live action before the regular season. Obviously I changed my tune from this morning. |
Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB
Q: How bad do we fans think the right side of our OL is?
A: It's so bad that we're actually talking about signing Richie Incognito. |

yeah, that's valid. i've been one of the ones preaching that our starters need more time in preseason because i watch teams coming off successful seasons getting much more work than us - including the seahawks. but it's hard to justify putting them against scrubs in week 4, players that are going all out to try to make an impression and land a job somewhere if not for their current team. it's hard to find a happy medium. i would have preferred our starters received more work in week 2 and week 3. Here's just some (projected) starters that got more attempts in this preseason than Griffin (who had 20): Newton - 21 Brandford -21 Kaepernick - 22 Mathew Stafford - 30 Tom Brady - 31 Geno Smith - 33 Aaron Rodgers - 33 Andy Dalton - 34 Matt Ryan - 37 Ben Rapelsberger - 37 Eli Manning - 37 Russell Wilson - 39 Ryan Tannehill - 41 Andrew Luck - 41 Jay Cutler - 42 Ryan Fitzpatrick - 43 Joe Flacco - 45 Petyon manning - 54 (lol?) There are quite a few super bowl winning QB's getting a lot more reps than our guy. I hope Gruden's some mastermind or something, because our guy isn't getting anywhere near the number of reps as many of the other QB's that are among the best playing right now. |
Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB
Incognito would upgrade our first team but also keep Long on the bench. If we think we can make Long into a capable starter sooner rather than later, we don't want Incognito.

It's preseason, remember Beck? |
