I have been thinking the exact same thing since reading the Miami Herald article. If this is the case there is probably a better than average chance of catching the piece of scum that did this.

My friend just called me. He is listening to 980AM locally and heard that when Sean's house was broken into a week ago the intruders rifled through his belongings and left a large knife on the bed. Maybe to send a message? A warning? Something is going here. This can't be random. Especially when I hear the report that Taylor grabbed a large knife to confront the attackers.

When I was medical school, one of the surgery department heads used to berate any students who were ever late. He used to say that if you're 5 mins late to a code (when a patient "flat-lines")--there's only one person you should call at that point--the pathologist for an autopsy.

Brain cells start dying under 5 minutes. The longer ST experienced cerebral hypoxia--obviously the worse his current and longterm prognosis.

I'm a Cowboys fan not here say anything but that my prayers are with the Taylor family and the entire Redskins organization. No rivalries here, just love for the game we all cherish and for a human being we respect.

It would probably be best not to speculate too much about the incident itself as these speculations may lend credence to the unsubstatiated stories running amuck right now about this tragedy. I would recommend that at this point in time efforts be concentrated on prayer and well-wishes for ST and his family.

Lets leave the detective work to the professionals at the scene and wish them the best of luck in apprehending the worthless f*ck who did this. i am sure we will have more details from credible sources within 24 hours.

But to answer your question I do agree that the question of why Taylor would find a need to keep a machete close at hand in his bedroom needs to be answered. Especially considering the "swanky" neighborhood he lives in.

Geez, didn't that last incident involve someone stealing his ATV's? I hope Sean pulls through this. Geez, he could have died. The bullet hit his femoral artery. Only thing worse would have his being shot in the jugular or in the heart. After he recovers, I think Sean needs to move away from Miami. He obviously has some not so nice friends/thugs down there that don't like him.

According to the article in the Miami Herald that was linked earlier in this thread, people had tried to break into his home on previous occasions and a knife was left on his pillow by the intruders.

I remember when I first heard it, I was at on my way to class and the first thing I wanted to do (But couldn't cause I had 2 classes) was to come here and be with my Warpathers. I knew this would be the place we could all come to empathize, sympathize and say good things bout ST. This is the worse thing that could have happened to anyone regardless of the jersey they're wearing. But its almost like a blessing in disguise because theres no bickering about kool-aid and haters, just brothers (and sisters! :)) coming together to send their thoughts, blessings and condolences to ST, his family and his teammates.

Not to start a political debate, but I'd say it's obvious he had it there for self defense. A knife is a terrible means of self defense, but given his past troubles with firearms I doubt he'd keep one of those real close, if he's even allowed to possess one at this point.

I live in a very well-to-do luxury apartment complex in an extremely low-crime, high-income part of town, and I have a H&K USP .45 upstairs within lunging distance from my bed, and a Sig Sauer P239 .40 hidden downstairs.

It's called being prepared to defend your family should the need arise, and I wouldn't expect Sean Taylor or anyone else to do anything less.

I would say for protection. I am not a thug and live in a safe neighborhood but less then a foot from my head is a 9mm. Call it my home security.

This is so sad for ST and his family. Forget football who cares if he comes back this year or ever, i just hope and pray he will fight this out and survive. Once he survives and lives then maybe we can focus on his return or football. I dont know how these guys will focus on football.

I have a single shot 12 Gauge I call JED right under my bed and shells close by.
I only need 1 shot to drop someone close range.

This sounds so bad, I don't know what to believe right now. NFLN said he's in a coma right now, other reports are saying that he's unconscious and dying. All I hope for is that he pulls through this with his life, this is absolutely tragic.

His family has requested that news about him only be revealed as they allow it to be. Further, instead of speculating and throwing several rumors out there ESPN is showing restraint and careful (save Cowherd) in how and when they release information about this.

It'll be tough and I don't expect them to practice nearly as long. But the Skins might take on the Bears like the Giants did when their owner passed. (That was last year I think?)

They played the game with a lot of heart and beat the shit out of us. I'm hoping the Skins play on Thursday with ST in mind and play with a lot of anger for the guy that did this to him and with a lot of heart for ST.

I don't own a gun and don't care to, but I sure as hell have a good alarm system, and I keep a metal bat just underneath my bed as well as in the hall closet right next to the front door. But I really don't want to see this to turn into a "how much ass I would kick if someone dared break into my house" thread.

I just hope this reaffirms to everyone here, especially those with family to watch over, the importance of securing your home. Fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, home security systems (if you can afford it), and escape and emergency plans just in case. You don't have to keep a 9 under your pillow to ensure safety, but it isn't wrong to do so either. I'm a big dude, and kind of an aplha male type character, and I'd like to think I'd be all badass if an intruder broke in. But attacking an intruder isn't smart. If they're ballsy enough to break in to your house, who knows what else they're capable of. I'm not saying Sean was in the wrong, certainly if you wake up and someone's in your bedroom you're gonna react. This is just so damn sad....

I just spent about 5 mins looking though google. Man you'd be surprised how many times NFL players are the targets of robberies. For example former WR Yancey Thigpen was the victim of 2 armed robberies in 8 years while he was a player. I guess NFL players need to get guards.
