Broncos gave up a 1 next year to draft Alfonso Smith???

Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
Unfortunately just getting online, but saw it all live. Great job by the FO pushing the Sanchez talk, bonehead moves by Oak & Den and a questionable one by Buf and we get a fantastic pick!
P.S. I called smokescreen too :) |
Man, even when it comes out alright, we still bitch among ourselves about who was right about something that was all speculation.
You are right. We should all be praising the heck out of the FO for a job well done. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
I cant complain too much. This off-season we upgraded at 4 starting positions not including D Hall.... P-Smith, DT-AH, G-Dockery, LB/DE-Orakpo. Probably take a OL in the 3rd then look for depth the rest of the way. Actually a pretty sweet start to the season even with the few scares with flirting with other QB's.
No he didn't! That was always a rumor without evidence or legs. I'm guessing that VC leaked that rumor.
Several sources reported that he did including ESPN, so what source do you have that he didn't? (not saying you are wrong, just would like to see if it all actually was a ploy.) |

Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
Campbell holds the cards now. He'll be a FA next year and will surely stick it to ol' Danny boy if they decide to FINALLY resign him. Shitty (and old) Qb's like Delhomme are getting paid BIG bucks so Campbell should get much more, if not from us, from another team.
I'm sure our FO is going to try to spin this (it did work) for the best but I think they cut Campbell pretty deep. First Cutler then Sanchez. How much disrespect can a guy take?
Considering Delhomme is ranked 22nd on the ALL TIME qb rating list, and he's only 34, I don't think he should be described as shitty or old. Maybe "older". |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
I think if that's true, it should come out in the coming weeks. I'd love to hear JC say that D$ and VC came to him with this plan 3 weeks ago.
That would be an amazing play if that were the case. It would be even better if they signed JC to a fat contract sometime tonight. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
Obviously it wasn't anything special considering Campbell came out publicly to tell everyone he wanted a trade if a QB was taken.
Unless that was part of the act.. |

Go ahead and check every single article on the subject. There is never a quote from JC or his agent. There is never any proof given. Every article simply recycled a bogus report from NFL Network (good job Steve Wyche:() |

actually all the reports including ESPN, said sources close to the situation, or something more vague, the only interview I saw with JC was one where he said it hurt, but nothing about requesting a trade. We will see, but at this point you have to think that whatever hurt may have occurred is overcomeable(lol) if JC plays lights out, and DS pays lights out. Both of which I think will happen |

What are the chances that we move up and get either , Britten , Beatty or Duke Robinson ?
Cerrato, if he can be believed, said they called every team ahead us to get orakpo.
Well, I would think that the Campbell camp would be up in arms about articles like this then:
Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell has made it clear to the franchise: if they continue to pursue a successor or a replacement for him, then he's going to request a trade.
Maybe you are right, but I would think he actually did say it since he's not pissed off about it. |

And you are forgetting that VC could have said to Steve Wyche, "Guess what Jason told me this morning..." even though JC said nothing. |
Then why didn't someone trade back? I mean did everyone want their guy that badly?
that is what he said, and look I trust Cerrato's comments as far as I can throw Orakpo, but I believe they called and offered a modest deal to move up, just so they could say they did it. you gotta admit after Jacksonville every team got good guys who dropped because Sanchez went so high and Oakland was Oakland. |

Maybe, or maybe we just didn't have enough ammunition that we were willing to give up. We have no 2nd rounder, for example. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
If Campbell struggles again this year, what do we do? DO you prefer McCoy, Bradford, or Tebow? If Campbell struggles again , we should be in pretty good position to get one of those guys.

damn jax got both monroe and britton. two bookends

Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
I just woke up. WTF!?!?! why did we let the jets take Sanchez. Dont get me wrong i really like Orakpo, but i LOVED Sanchez. Our front office has absolutely no clue how to run a franchise. Had a chance to get get a franchise QB for the next 15 years and you let someone get him. On top of that they have completely alienated Jason Campbell over the last month or two. Ill tell you what this is gong to lead to at year end, especiallyif Campbell lights it up this year. He's either gonna tell them to: a. kiss his ass and leave or, b. hold them hostage when it comes time to renegotitate. And people wonder why the skins have only made the playoffs 3 times since 1992. Thanks alot Snyder and Cerrato or shoud I say Dumb and Dumber.
cool story, hansel there are 3 qb's coming out next year that will likely be better than sanchez |

If this is true, I need to give the FO a standing ovation. What a snow job they did on everyone, including me. About your previous post, well, like the quote I provided, as a reporter, you can't report something that is untrue. You haven't provided any proof of Campbell refuting it, therefore you must assume it is correct until proven otherwise. All in all, I suppose it doesn't really matter. We got who I REALLY wanted in Orakpo, and nothing is going to change that. Don't care how it happened, just that it did. I'm thrilled! |

Let's say JC didn't say it, I would think the following reactions would be most likely: 1) go to Zorn and say "Hey, I don't know where that quote came from" and Zorn would smooth it with the FO 2) think, hmm I do feel that way, so I will just let it linger out there and not comment. In no way would I think, given his less than out spoken nature, that he would respond with an angry rebuttal that he was falsely quoted. |

Bradford 1, McCoy 2, Tebow we don't need, we already have two stud tight ends... |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
It will probably come out that we tried very hard to get Sanchez, but the Jets offer was too much to overcome. After we couldn't have Sanchez, they focused on the task at hand, and that was Orakpo.
Thank you Jets for taking the decision out of our FO hands!
Rushing up there to pick definitely takes the edge away, making it seem like we wanted Orakpo from the beginning. Maybe we did. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
I'd take Tebow in a heartbeat. Some guys are just winners and he's one of them. (I still prefer JC though)
|
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
But he went further, saying that they had called the 5 teams ahead of us to trade, now I may not agree with doing that, but it certainly is verifiable proof, along with the speed of the pick, to say yes this IS who we really wanted.
Sanchez was taken before the 5 picks before us I hope that we wanted Orakpo though |

I would LOVE to hear a story of that being true. That would curb a lot of the "dumb and dumber" comments in reference to Snyder and Cerrato. |
Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion
No thanks on Tebow, we already have C Portis to run the ball, If we draft a QB let's get a real one, lot's of players are winners in college..
I'd take Tebow in a heartbeat. Some guys are just winners and he's one of them.
He IS a winner. I don't question that, AT ALL. (I am also a Gators fan) I just don't see him as a successful NFL quarterback. PS He is a lefty, I hate left handed QBs. |

ahh true, they might've offered basically nothing, didn't think of that hahah, everyone was saying this would be the year al davis didn't select the fastest guy, but one of the best, ahahhaha, yeah.. should've known better than to have trusted the analysts on that one d h-b at number 7 lol |

Pat white in the 3rd is the way to go. That guy is a winner.
