Gauging his value can never be a bad thing. Cooley is just one of those players we love to have around because of his production. I'd like to see him in B&G for the remainder of his career, unless I'm overwhelmed by an offer I can't refuse.

HELL YES!!!!! The Skins arent going anywhere with Cooley and if they can trade him for some nice picks then they should do it and build for the future.

His fumbles dwarf those who are at the same position and have played longer. (some) Before some idiot comes back and says "those aren't fumbles lost", then realize that the act of recovering a fumble is pure luck. You don't judge a player on whether the fumble was lost or not, you judge him on the fumbles itself.

I honestly can't think of TE in the league right now who's worth a 1st and a 3rd.

Cooley is a good player that us Redskins fans tend to vastly overrate since we don't have many good players. I would love to trade Cooley for a draft pick. IMO we think Cooley is so valuable to us winning because for most of Cooleys time here we have had weak QB's that have leaned on the safe passes to the TE since they can't get the ball down the field to the WR's.

I think if you took me back to before the 2010 offseason, and told me I could either trade Cooley for a 1st and 3rd round pick, or NOT trade a 2nd and 4th round pick for McNabb, I'd rather collect draft picks by having Cooley and not McNabb vs. having McNabb and not Cooley.

With that said, where this team is right now, a Cooley trade would now make sense. I don't think it did a year ago, but I'm tired of different offensive staffs failing miserably to use the best talent on the roster. Cooley's long been one of my favorite Redskins, but I'd rather deal him now vs watching another year of him and Davis being used sub-optimally.

Their value isn't equal and it never will be. You'll never see a TE get paid what a WR or RB does or command the importance those spots due (especially in the draft).


How many TEs have you seen drafted in the top 10 the past decade? Now go back and see how many RBs/WRs have been drafted in the top 10. TE doesn't have the same value. Just like a Full Back will never command the type of value that a TE or WR will.

Your job was not to tell me that the values are never equal, it was to tell me why, if values are equal, that you should pay less compensation for a TE than a RB or WR.

I can see, at most, one reason why you could be right on this.

I'm just going to use Gates, because he's the consensus best receiving TE. Not a great blocker, so that hurts his value. But bear with me.

Gates, in 2010, was more valuable than every receiver in the NFL ([URL="http://footballoutsiders.com/stats/wr"]according to DYAR[/URL]) other than Brandon Lloyd and Mike Wallace. He did this in 12 games. Clearly if there was any skilled player worth two high picks (including a first rounder) based only on last year's production, it's Gates.

Only kickers and punters make less than RBs. The NFL is a passing game and positions associated with passing and stopping the pass are the highest paid. The days of the big back are over, they are cogs that are replaced every couple of years.

I would trade Cooley for a 1st and 3rd, and I wouldn’t release Albert Haynesworth. I’d acknowledge my mistake and learn from it. After giving him $41,000,000 I own his fat ass. Right now the team needs to turn chicken shit into chicken salad, and it can be done. Albert is a fat turd of a human being, but human nonetheless. Somewhere beneath the stupidity is a pro bowler. Maybe there’s someone within the Redskin’s organization that can help Albert turn his life around.

BEST case you get a 3rd for Cooley .. more likely a 4th and for that I say no way .. BUILD the team around Cooley & Davis ... 2 TE's are crucial in this pass first NFL ... while we are at it, bring back Moss for a reasonable $$ .... Carter,Dockery,Portis are not Chris Cooley

love cooley, if it wasn't for his personality it wouldn't matter though

fumbles, drops, not used well, etc... there's no point in having 2 underutilized TEs

we can get more for Cooley than Davis and Davis will be better down the line most likely, especially since he's younger

I don't want to see Cooley go but it makes sense if we can get good compensation

Cooley might be worth a 2nd...thats about it...so if thats the reality you have to ask, are you likely to get a guaranteed highly productive starter with this pick?...the answer is no...so you don't do it.

Are you likely to get a guaranteed starter with a first and a 3rd?....for any other team besides the redskins...that is a yes...so you do it.....but no one, no where, would trade a first and third for cooley....he is not a pro bowl qb for heavens sake....he's a TE!

A better question might be, what offer would you accept to trade Cooley in terms of draft picks.....I say a 2nd and a 4th....thats a potential starter and a potential backup and you still have Fred Davis at the TE spot.
