Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
I am no Claussen fan, but he really does take too much criticism, most of it seems unwarranted. Every interview I have seen and heard with him has been impressive, and in no way shows any faults in his personality. He was a unanimous Captain of the team, and most of his criticisms have come from anonymous teammates, reporters, and scouts. It appears to me that there were a few bad apples on his Notre Dame team, and he is taking the heat for all of them.
I do prefer Bradford myself, but Claussen is gaining my respect for how he is handling this onslaught of negative perceptions. I am finding it easier to root for him the more he gets pounded on.
He might not be a Manning, but I hate the way ppl blow shit up like this. Painting him in this horrible light without first hand knowledge of him not being a good leader, right before the draft. We have never heard anything but positives about his work ethic previously. I think Mayock and McShay are fickle assholes who need to shut up, and report on facts and their opinions of talent, not saying that they are definitively a bad leader and have a questionable work ethic without a name or some proof to back it up.. Shit, my anonymous source told me that Jared Gaither is retiring to become a professional chess player and follow his dream of becoming a spinal surgeon...... This is a talented quarterbacks/young mans shot at life, dont try to fuck it up for him just to get a 2 minute spot on NFL network by revving up the rumor mill. mcShay and mayock, you guys are just pathetic. |
THANK YOU!!! That's what I've been saying and he can make the throws and move around in the pocket if need be. This guy could be our Peyton Manning!
If I had to bet the mortgage, I would bet that he is the next Brady Quinn over being the next Peyton Manning. Come on now... |

Come on now...
Just like Aaron Rodgers was the next Joey Harrington or Kyle Boller? Better yet that Peyton Manning was going to be the next Tee Martin? Every player and situation is different. The system they come from can only give you so much of an idea. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
Yeah...I am going to have to echo the last few thoughts on this thread. I am really impressed by how Clausen has handled himself and in light of the fact that Oklahoma had that ridiculous offensive line, Clausen's productivity this last year is that much more impressive.
I am still keeping my fingers crossed for Okung or that we trade down a little but would not mind in the slightest if we picked up Clausen. |

Peyton Manning is arguably the greatest QB ever. EVER. This guy isn't even the highest rated QB in this draft. Let's be reasonable and take a step backwards. |

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
Even the staunchest Clausen defenders will tell you he was an arrogant prick (though always very talented, maybe because he was very talented) throughout high school and his first couple of years in college. He seemed to have matured this past season, and he's saying all the right things in the weeks leading up to the draft.
But at this time of year, every prospect is repeatedly coached on what to say, how to act, and it's a somewhat controlled environment. He's not having to answer questions immediately after a loss at this point. So the question with Clausen is is this new found sense of responsibility and maturity the new Clausen or just something temporary? It's like Tebow in a way, he's doing great with his new throwing motion right now, but what happens when the environment isn't controlled. Will he resort back to what's he most comfortable with? All that said, I'd be perfectly happy with Clausen under center for the Skins. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
So did we learn anything about Clausen's visit with us yesterday? Any news?

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
He made a great impression, whatever that means
It could mean two things. It could be the front office trying to tempt other teams who need a QB to trade with us for that pick, or, like it or not, we are looking to draft him. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
Like what are the Redskins expected to say, he shit the bed? It's all PR and spin at this point.
Truth is it's hard to detect personality defects in a candidate while he's interviewing for the job of his life, so all you really have to go on is what you see on the field and in the training room. What we know for sure is that Clausen isn't going around jacking cars, slapping down hoes in the club, and just being an overall menace to society. Everybody worth their salt has haters. I think the Skins, and any other NFL organization, can cut through the media BS and determine if he's truly NFL ready or not. I don't think Bruce Allen wakes up, flips the tube to NFLN to see what Maycock has to say about the matter. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
NFL Scout on McShay on Clausen:
"On draft day McShay will look like a fool because whether or not you like Clausen as a person he is very talented," the source said. "He has more training and game time in a pro system than any quarterback in the draft. His improvement from '08 to '09 was tremendous. If Notre Dame had a defense, Charlie Weis would still be there coaching. Offense was not the problem. I will agree that Clausen may have some A-hole in him but he is extremely talented. He has a strong arm and is very accurate. Plus he has played a lot in a pro system."
I posted this in another thread but it seemed like this part fit here. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
I'm starting to think that the real question is, "What burgundy and gold number will Clausen wear?"
I'm not saying I want this, I'm saying that this seems like the way things will shake out. That said, I would not mind this outcome. |

That said, I would not mind this outcome.
I would describe the actual chances of Clausen playing here as highly unlikely. Obviously, you need to keep all channels of communication open regarding all prospects, but I think our Big Board is shaping up without Clausen or Eric Berry in the top five. I wish I knew where they had Suh rated. Because without that, I can't possibly think that I have the draft strategy figured out. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
I think that the only way we get Clausen is if Bradford and Okung are off the board and if we don't have anyone to trade down with.

Don't doubt it though. I mean heck, Jurgenson gave Shane Matthews permission to wear #9, but at the same time warned him about what the fans might say. This time around though I'm pretty sure you'll see strong public support from Theisman on this "issue" assuming it's true. |

I guess that would make some sense since they're both Notre Dame alum, and JT was a bit of an advisor to Clausen during his time at Notre Dame. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
Is Clausen actually 6'3" or closer to 6'2"?
|
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
^^ I wonder if Theismann is lobbying for Clausen behind the scenes. Anyone know of a Theismann 2010 mock draft?

Kinda splitting hairs there 12th. But just FYI he's 6' 2-5/8" if it really matters. Jimmy Clausen | Notre Dame Scouting Report - 2010 NFL Draft Prospect |

He's listed at 6'3 but was measured at the combine at 6'2. So to answer your question he's 6'2. |

Rule of thumb with draft prospects is to always go around a half inch lower then their listed height. Anyway I guess it's settled. Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
JR: Aside from Tim Tebow, the player I get asked more about than any other is Jimmy Clausen. I know you’ve scouted him extensively.
Scout: Yeah I have. I’ve seen every snap he took and a lot of them more than a few times. The thing about him is that kid just loves football and it’s his whole life. All these people talk about him being this or being that, and they sure as hell haven’t ever spent time with him. Because that kid is all about making himself the best NFL quarterback, and he’s got the physical ability to do it. JR: But will he be successful? Scout: I really think so. Look, he’s got some warts. That kid was a world class prick when he got there, but he figured it out and grew up. You could really see it over the last year. They ran an NFL offense and (Clausen) made reads and drops that none of the other guys have even thought about. He just anticipates routes so well. Now would I like to see him gun it a little harder sometimes, yeah, sure. But for my money this kid is the surest bet in this draft (at QB). That would explain the mixed reports on his character. Looks like McShay and Kiper are both right. It's just that McShay's reports are based in 2007. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
Lol, lock every QB thread. The only one that should be open is the Tebow thread. Thats the only QB I could see us acquiring now.
|
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
I think there should be a Jake Locker 2011 thread...at this point that and Tebow should be all that stays. Not sure how i feel about this but ND quarterbacks have struggled to make the transition so maybe this was all for the better.

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
I was wondering how the Clausen workout went, I guess above all the McNabb trade answers that...

Interesting tweet from Mort...
"mortreport: The 'Skins met with Clausen; never loved him; never worked him out; talks with Eagles just heated up, that's all." So, who sees a Brady Quinn slide for Clausen? |

I'm really curious as to how this will affect Clausen's stock on draft day. I wonder what was his reaction to this trade.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how far he would have fallen. Personally I don't like him very much as a Buffalo QB. However I did like him as a Redskin and just as well as a Viking. |
