The Eagles reportedly dropped out of the Peppers race...and they'll still have a better defense than whoever lands him!!!

re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
I won't be upset if we don't get Peppers.

NFLN was pointing out that they have no first or second round pick... This is their shot. |

Arch wanted to be with Lovie, but couldn't at the time or whatever, so Lovie told him that I'll get you paid well by going to Washington, then we'll be back together in a couple years. :) |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
Schefter just said that he is "very confident" that Peppers will be a Bear.
|

Redskins top-2 defensive targets apparently both have visits skedded to other cities: Peppers to Chicago and Dansby to Miami. Still early... |

Vaughn McClure's twitter:
Lovie Smith just touched down in Charlotte to meet with Julius Peppers and his agent, Carl Carey. Smith will fly back to Chicago with them. |

According to PFT Bruce Allen hasn't even been in contact with peppers agent.

Maybe it was Vinny with his voice disguised as Bruce Allen that was calling Peppers' agent. |

Actually he disguised his voice to call Brandon Marshall's agent. I guess that deal is already done and Vinny is celebrating with...you guessed it another snort of cocaine. |

re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
Aaron Wilson reports Jason Babin is on our radar. This is really interesting because Babin played in 3-4s for most of his early career and struggled so much. He finally got to play in some 4-3 concepts last year and performed quite well. So I don't know what the idea is here.

re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
Who isn't on our radar?
But yeah, who knows if that will actually happen, can't say I've paid much attention to him other than our games. |

If you really think about it a guy like Peppers will be calling us we won't be calling him. He know's where the $$$$$ at. (I don't want Peppers) |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
So much for this rumor and all the others that had us tied to every FA available. A lot of media guys out there with egg on their faces this morning lol
Nice to see a quiet opening to FA for a change from the Skins |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
Yeah. It looks like there's a new sherriff in town. Perhaps there is actually a plan for long term success rather than a "Hey - Let's try this, maybe it will work!!" attitude.
Glad to see some of the SI guys getting caught on there refried "sources". |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
How old is Peppers? Yeah, I'm too lazy to look it up.
|
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
30, as of Jan 18th

I just don't think it's the end of the world that we didn't land a lukewarm, albeit talented, 30 year defensive end. We'll be fine. |

Nice to see a quiet opening to FA for a change from the Skins
I love the approach to FA and I also love the way Bruce Allen handles the media. He was asked a dozen or so questions last night and he only answered one. You can tell the locals here have an uneasiness about the questions they ask, they're just not getting the customary answers. |
re: Peppers signs with the Bears (updated - again)
Love that we arent breaking the bank for Peppers but i'm somewhat discouraged that Chad Clifton and Babber or whatever the heck his name is are the only guys we're pursuing. Clifton definitely feels a need as a stopgap, but Babber is downright awful.

Dansby is still on their radar too

I'm not really that high on the pursuit of Clifton for various reasons, health as well as age being atop my concerns. Replacing a 33 yr. old tackle with another 33 yr. old is suspect IMO. I'm having a difficult time trying to understand what it is we have against drafting offensive linemen. |

Who says Allen isn't planning to draft more than one linemen? Signing a stop gap tackle doesn't mean you won't draft his eventual successor to develop behind him for a year. You're coloring your thought process with Snyderatto logic. It's time for Shanallen logic. |

I'm all for upgrading the line by any means and free agency plus the draft is the best way to do it. |

The Eagles have an offer on the table for Peppers... I'd rather see him go to Chicago
