What exactly has Torain done? I mean, he didn't exactly run wild last year.

Re: Redskins-Colts Gameday Thread.

I think Torain deserves more than 1 injury shortened seasons to make the team -- couple that with how bad the O line was and I think he did a pretty decent job overall.

That being said, one thing I've noticed is that our starters have outplayed the opposing starters in both preseason games -- granted it is preseason and Manning didn't play the second game, both Tomlin and Caldwell had pretty similar sentiments about how bad their starters looked against our starters. Last but not least, TH and RH are looking like great pickups.

All of our backs have looked good . Beck looked good , wouldn't be nice if he shocked everyone this year . Austin and Paul also impressed me , as did our young m looking forward to seeing Landry and OJ on the field together !

They could trade Torain if he were not in there plans , however , he was on pace for over 1,300 yds last yr behind a bad O Line . Either way we have some good looking rb's Hightower , Torain , Helu , Royster , and Williams ( RB/FB ) .

Re: Redskins-Colts Gameday Thread.

It's going to be very interesting to see how the final roster shapes out, particularly at RB and WR. There's just a numbers crunch at those two positions. Torain, Hightower, Helu, and Royster all look deserving, and I like Moss, Gaffney, Stallworth, Armstrong, Hankerson, Paul, Austin, and Banks, who really look likes the odd man out if Paul/Austin can be consistent kick/punt returners.

I like Torain, but I think what Hightower, Helu and Royster have shown is they can all be effective and accomplish what Shanny once in a running game. I really like Torain violent style of running, but it has proven it cause injury to him. I much rather use that roster spot say carrying a 5th safety like Gomes because of injury concerns in that area or a 6th WR to develop like a one of our draft picks.

Hightower has fared much better in the Shanny system than everyone intially thought, that makes ATV expendable imo.

homonym fail lol. Butyeah I pretty much agree with your post. Hightower already has what Torain brings to the table, plus pass blocking, minus the fumbling issues. And Torain is injury prone. I hope Torain's not out all preseason because I just don't see there being any room for him at the end of the day.

I think that's trents weakness is speed rushers. He does well against the power rushers. Interesting though, because if you asked me whats trents best asset I'd say his speed, not strength.

For the record, I think Torrain makes the team and is still possibly starter vs. Giants. Good problem to have though -- finally.

Don't see that being the case. I think he can still make the team but I do not see him being the starter at all. Hightower and Helu have played too well IMO to have neither of the two be the starter.

Helu is faster, more agile, and a better receiver. Furthermore, he can be deadly even in limited action as a #2.

Hightower is faster, can pass pro better, a better receiver, is more durable, and runs just as hard.

He might be. He'll need to play this week. If he does not play against the Ravens, and show what he can do further, he might be gone.

I think our best option is to have Hightower/Torrain/Helu going into the season... but if you can't stay healthy, you can't make the team...

By the way, does anyone else think Beck is really akward when he's doing draws? He had at least two or three yesterday that just looked really weird.

I don't think Torain will play at all this preseason. There was some speculation that he may silt out until the bye week. Not sure though. Mike absolutely loves him though,

Think the Cards are kicking themselves today over that trade? I mean Vonnie was a good guy but from a production standpoint I am not sure what they were thinking in the first place. Now they've gone from an abundance of talent to scrounging the free agent pool and waiver wire.

I saw that. I watched the whole game on CSN and I think Mann felt a little uncomfortable at first, in the beginning it sounded like he was just reading lines off a teleprompter. But I think he grew a little more comfortable towards the end of the game. Maybe he just needs to get comfortable in that role. But I for one was very happy with JT not being in the booth anymore.

MAN the thing about Hightower, Torrain and Helu. These dudes run...HARD! If we have any successful blocking at all we should have an old school power running attack. Should be really fun and make life much more fun for our QB.
CANNOT wait!

You are right. I would add that the whole team is playing hard. We have much more of a lunch pail attitude than in the last few years. Preseason scores do not count but that part matters.

I dont see how Hightower is not the starter. Personally blown away by how great he has been in this system. Damn, Shanny really showing off his ability to get solid RBs once again that excel in his system. That freakin cut back last night got me off the couch last nite night spilling my West Coast IPA in the process. See SS, when I name drop, its good beers name dropping

Right now, Hightower is the starter hands down with Torain battling it out with Helu for number two. It's tough cause of injuries but he who performs plays, and Helu has performed so far.

I would like to see Torain make the 53 man roster simply because he has demonstrated he can be productive. However, as we all know, the I-bug has been his constant companion and he's not versatile enough as a back-up RB with no ST's abilities. If he's not the starter, with the addition of Hightower he faces an uphill battle.

Kyle Shanahan to SI regarding Tim Hightower:

He’s a violent runner. He runs as hard as he can, gets to the line of scrimmage, and presses his cuts. And when he puts his foot down, it’s violent, and he’s getting downhill. He always gets tackled with his shoulders going north. He’s exactly what we look for in this offense… On grass with us, I think he can be an every-down back. Because he’s definitely a first- and second-down runner, and he also has good hands, and he’s fearless when it comes to blocking. He understands our pass schemes and he’s got a chance to be a guy who doesn’t come off the field. It might take a while for him to make the transition to us, but it’s always going to be a faster transition when you’ve got a guy who doesn’t flinch. He’s not scared to put his face into anyone, and he’s smart and he works at it. I think he’ll be able to do it.
Yeah, the screws will probably stay in there until after the season.
The screws in Torain's hand may be permanent. My daughter broke her wrist years ago and she still carries the screws the surgeon put in her wrist to repair it. There is no plan to ever take them out.

I'm thinking that Torain may need to go on IR. I can't imagine how painful it would be for him to take a hard hit on his hand right now. Could he hold onto the ball? I assume that catching a pass right now would be difficult for him, as well.

Per Chris Russell: Ryan Torain says "progress is good" When asked if target was Tampa, final preseason game, he said "Yeah, definitely".

Interesting that more are leaning that Torrain might not make the team, I think he will. Let's see if he gets on the field vs. Tampa.

Re: Redskins-Colts Gameday Thread.

I do think Torain will make the team over Royster. But he's the no. 3 back behind Helu and Hightower, and I think he'll be inactive on gamedays but for an injury.

Is it really that crazy? Torain as we know is hurt, again. Royster is basically the same kind of back.

Not saying it's going to happen, but it wouldn't shock me.

Re: Redskins-Colts Gameday Thread.

I'm fine with Torrain not making the team, just to be clear. But I guess I underestimated his injury a bit and expected him to be in the lineup. That said, I would be surprised if he didn't make the final roster.

Honestly I don't care if ATV is there, Hightower and Helu are our future RB tandem for a few years. Plus Torain is always injured

helu will be the #3 to start i imagine cause he's pass blocking is beyond awful right now. if KW is the 3DRB, protection is probably the reason. I think all of them catch pretty well.
