Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
SS quick question, now that a player is released he is free to join anyone's practice squad correct?
|
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Also is there a thought out there that they are willing to risk releasing Tim Hightower before week 1 only to resign him after game 1 so they would not have to guarantee his contract for the year?

If they clear waivers and are eligible then yes. Good question on Hightower. I'm really curious on what they plan in doing with him. I might see him this weekend. If I do, I'll ask |

Is it 24 hours to clear waivers? |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Looks like the Dolphins kept Slaton on their 53 man roster. Like others have said, probably not a huge loss. I'd rather have a CB anyways
|
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Can start claiming at Noon EST today
|
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
I might be late to this info, but it seems the name at CB is Crezdon Butler. CB from arizona claimed off waivers by us. He was drafted in the 5th round by pitt a couple years ago. He has good speed.

I have a legitimate question here... Why is everyone so worried about signing Steve slaton? U do realize he's not any good right?

He has sucked the past few years, but his rookie year didn't he run for like 1300 yards and catch a bunch of passes. And to top that it was out of the shanahans offense in Houston. So i guess ppl might see some upside for him in our system. |

That and there are a few WVU fans on here. |
I'm not against bringing him in but I just don't know if he's better than helu or Morris
|
If they bring him in, he'll be the 4th back behind our current three.

And especially since there's talk of bringing Hightower later in the season when he's healthier. No one knows if Hightower will be claimed by someone else, I highly doubted at this stage of his health status. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
According to the Miami Dolphins website Slaton was cut today.
|
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
I don't know how I feel about bringing him in, honestly I was of the mind set that they needed to keep four RBs since there always seems to be a decent amount of injuries to Shanny's backs.
Hightower to me is the guy I want, but I would take Slaton if they don't feel TH can get back at it this year. |

That and we were talking about getting him for a guy we were going to cut anyway. Free player with some upside. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Slaton is better then any back we have atm. People are on the Morris train right now but the guy is running over 2nd teamers and the Colts. Who couldnt stop my high school team from scoring last year. Helu should be the starter is we dont end up getting Slaton. Hes our best back, only thing is... People say he has durability issues.

If he was so good why is he waiting for his 3rd team? He is no Darren Sproles. |

IKNOWRIGHT?! cuz no 1's ever done better in a different system or returned 2 former glory when they change scenery like ever... ever ever. just sayin' [edit: don't care about Slaton personally] |

His two banged up achillies tendons and his injuries last year say he's got durability issues. Of course Slaton may very well be a flash in the pan. He had his own injuries if memory serves me correctly and he certainly hasn't done anything recently. That said he also might have been Pushed out of the ideal system for his skills by a guy called Arian Foster. So what I'm saying is: the guy might make a nice insurance back who has at least some plausible possibility of returning to a form that would make him pro bowl RB. Stranger things have happened... we are talking about Football after all. |

I said he's the best back THE REDSKINS would have. Not in the league. Helu struggles to beat out Royster and another rookie RB. The only RB out of the 4 to do anything productive would be Slaton, and he was beat out by one of the best RB in the NFL at the moment. Doesn't mean he wouldn't do great things here. Bush is better then Slaton as well, but it still doesn't change the fact that Slaton would be better then anything we have at the moment. There is a reason Kyle want's to trade for him even though we are so "deep" at RB. Just saying. |

Morris played against the Bears first team and looked good. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 using Taptalk 2 |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
This is kinda nitpicking because I know they have to work on building at every position, and I don't know* what they try to do and it just falls through....
I feel like the front office should quit worrying so much about stockpiling RBs, and get more results on bringing in secondary and OL that could start for us. Even though they're probably working on that. *(not like SS does (thank you!) let alone what's happening in Allen and Shanny's offices) |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
My guess would be Kyle S. while at Houston coached Slaten who as a rookie rushed for over 1,200 yds and almost 5 yds/carry . I think we have a nice group of backs either way !

 No. They could bring Reggie Bush over here and he still wouldn't be a better back than the ones we have. He'd be a better 3rd down back, but that's about it. Slaton is barely hanging onto a roster spot for a reason. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
I'd sure as hell take Reggie Bush.
Slaton, meh. Good depth. |

Even though they're probably working on that. *(not like SS does (thank you!) let alone what's happening in Allen and Shanny's offices)[/quote] I think you can maybe make an argument that they're not doing enough/haven't done enough to build up the secondary. I wouldn't say that's true for the OL. I don't think they're all gung-ho we have to get Slaton. It's just that a couple of weeks ago Helu's status looked really bleak and Hightower was still trying to find his way back. So they scanned other team's rosters and who might be available and lo and behold there's an RB likely available with experience in this offense. That's all |

My guess is that Helu was supposed to be that player but he hasn't been healthy lately. Apparently, Skins management thinks that Slaton might be able to reclaim his career in that role. I have my doubts about Slaton but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if the Skins were to bring in a back who could be a big play threat in the passing game. |

If you could go back to the draft that Bush was in, he wouldn't even be a top 15 pick that year, never the less a #2 pick. He's a great all-purpose/3rd down back, but he simply isn't cut out to be a every down back. Had Daniel Thomas not been hurt as much as he was, he probably would have taken a bunch of carries away from Bush last year. This is not saying I wouldn't want him on the team, just not as a every down back. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
I think he proved last year he can carry the load.

You are being delusional. :) You can keep adding. your opinionated replys about how our back are betterthen Bush or Slaton but both jave achieved more then any back we have. Hell, i would even say combined |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
I will say this about Slaton, I am a big WVU fan. I have watches him through college and into the pros.
One thing Slaton did very well at WVU was pick up blitzing defenders very well. To the point where when he was in his prime at WVU I used to compare him to Portis in the way he played the game. He is a quick and physical runner and can pick up blitzes with the ferocity that Portis used to. |
Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Are we bringing him in?

yep, and now he is a pro bowl corner for the 49ers.................. yeesh. we have such great luck releasing and trading our talent away |
Reggie bust I mean bush had a good year last year but I don't see him really taking off this season

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Darren Sproles is the best Reggie Bush.

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread
Willie Smith signed by the Raiders
