Byrd? I don't know. My guess is (besides its Bleacher Report) that he's not a big name because he isn't a pro bowler and he plays in a small market (buffalo). I agree with you though he is a big name.

Not the first time ive scratched my head while reading a list on the BR. I love the idea behind the site, but i think they need to research their lists alittle better.

I just threw up in my mouth alittle bit. I wouldnt replace a divot with tim tebow let alone a guy who has proven he can be a good qb in this league.

Love it. QUADRUPLE option offense, replace D.Young with Tebow.

Option (1) Run with Morris,
Option (2) Play action pass,
Option (3) Banks reverse run,
Option (4) Tebow run/pass.

(just kidding).

Of note, I guess we keep Rex for another year to backup Cousins until RG3 is availaible..

Have to keep him imo. Cheap and knows the offense.
Edit: minus the pass part of number four i could see that working beautifully once.

Trent Williams isn't going anywhere. But we could use a solid RT or someone we could move inside like Brandon Albert.

A vet like Reed would be ideal Goldson even more ideal.

But we need another offensive weapon. We got away with our core this year simply on the fact that the option worked so well and Griffin himself was a weapon. But if Cousins is the guy and were not playing the Browns were gonna have trouble..

We do get Davis and Helu back. We could use a sure fire number two behind Garcon. Moss is getting old, im holding out slim hope that Hank is going to be a solid wr.

I hope we take a look at Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman.

Amendola gets open and he has great hands. Danny definitely torched the Skins this season.

Edelman is more dynamic and productive than he is given credit for being. He is very versatile. He played WR, Slot, KR/PR, and he even played CB in an emergency. Plus he has a bit of a nasty streak which I like in a player.

Remember this name for the draft; Ryan Swope WR Texas A&M. If you like those two guys you'll love swope.

Re: 2013 Free Agents

Amendola is too much of an injury risk. Edelman coming off a nasty concussion and he seems like the type who looks good in the Pats system and then come here and be Randle El part deux. Pass on both.

I wonder if Eddie Royal makes the roster with the new regime in San Diego, he was a disaster this year. He is who Id watch.

10 catches vs LSU
11 catches vs Bama going against what probably will be the first corner taken in the draft...
hopefully this man has a bad combine.

skinsfaninok 01-12-2013 10:28 AM

We can get WR in free agency, all we really need is 1 more IMO. Fred Davis return will be huge and adding one more lineman would be nice.

On def. We need a lot lol

Haha, its all good man. The Amerson comment is just a tidbit I heard some scouts say; he could still be a CB.

The defensive side of the ball is going to be interesting in terms of FA and the draft. Just take a quick look of the starters;

DE--Carriker, Jenkins
DT--Cofield, Neild(?), Baker(?)** [Don't see us keeping 2 NTs, one who's healthy, one who's coming off a torn ACL.]
DE--Bowen

OLB--Kerrigan, Rob Jackson(?)**
ILB--Riley, Robinson
ILB--Fletcher(?), Lorenzo**
OLB--Orakpo**

CB--Wilson, Crawford, C. Griffin**(?)
FS--Gomes(?)
SS--Doughty, Meriweather (?), Bernstein (?)
CB--Minnifield(?)

** means FA to be
(?) are the questionable guys

I didn't include Hall, I think he's gone. Meriweathers on a 2 year deal but he's coming off a torn ACL, so he can't be counted on. Cedric Griffin was ok for us this year, but he can easily be upgraded. Bernstein blew up his knee not even into the first game of last year and was a 7th rounder, so he'll probably be cut. Gomes played less this year, he can be upgraded, and he was a liability at times in coverage. Minnifield didn't even play this year, but you all expect big things from him next year.

Fletcher may retire. Rob Jackson is a FA who had some big games for us down the stretch this year, does he return as a backup or starter, should we try to trade Orakpo for picks and get another Pass Rusher high in the draft. Lorenzo is a FA, but he and the redskins want to work out a deal he said.

The only question really on the DL is if we keep both Neild who is coming off a torn ACL and Baker who played some solid snaps for us this year, but isn't the pass rush threat that Neild is. I didn't even bother with Golston and Worthington and all the other backup DE's. They were bad, so I can see us drafting a couple of DEs and maybe getting a FA there.

My solution

Priority 1 get Jarius Byrd. He's franchised,
Priority 2 get Goldson from San Fran (not likely to be franchised twice)

FS is solved. (You draft Swearinger from South Carolina or Amerson from NC State for depth)

SS draft it

Priority 3 is Brent Grimes the CB from Atlanta. (Draft a CB high and a CB/returner low, Honey Badger comes to mind)

Priority 4 is a pass rush threat that can be either a 3-4 OLB or 3-4 DE, like a Margus Hunt, in the draft, FA wise though I'd go after a Jason Jones of Seattle as a 3-4 DE, or a Phillip Wheeler of Oakland as a 3-4 OLB (He was a DE in college)

Chico23231 01-12-2013 01:08 PM

Re: 2013 Free Agents

Im lost on what positions we need pass rushers at?

Rak and Kerrigan on the outside(Jackson depth). Carriker and Bowen at DE with Jarvis Jenkin depth. NT Coefield. ILB Riley and Fletch (Robinson/Lorenzo rolling in a benzo are depth).

I guess you could focus at depth for NT and possibly DE? Rak and Kerrigan are well established pass rushers and Carriker is solid as well...you need more of a defender/run support at ILB in the 3-4.

Where do you add pass rushers at? Sub out Bowen for a pass rusher on 3rd down possibly???

I want the Redskins to sign that guy Jarius Byrd. He's a ball hawking free safety that will definitely improve our secondary.

Re: 2013 Free Agents

I would like to say thank you for putting together such a good Redskins site . I love the Washington Redskins ! I have been a fan of them for over 25 years ! Warpath is a perfect name! my opinion on Free Agency. I've seen people other places saying we need a entirely new secondary. I disagree. I do think we need to sign a good corner maybe Rodgers-Cromartie? I think coming to the skins would make him better, this team has grown into a high character bunch because of coahes and the attitude they have brought in. That would also make Wilson our 3rd corner and improve our depth, and Safety isn't that weak especially if we keep Merriweather, I think the guy has a ton left in the tank, judging by his 1/2 of football. I do not think they will keep Jackson, so we need to go get someone there 2. It doesn't have to be a brow bowler. We should spend our money on a guy like ARC. but What of the TE position. I think we should sign Paullson for blocking duties , but what of Fred? Will they think about going after something? RG III needs another weapon on offense, I would like to see it come in the form of a playmaking WR . maybe a Mike Wallace or a Greg Jennings . If we did I think Garcon would really get freed up more. to go along with Aldrick,Hankerson, and Morgan and Moss. I think it's time to cut ties with Banks and Briscoe

Byrd would be great, unfortunately he is probably at the top of alot of teams lists.

The RT's that arent worth looking at are still an upgrade over Polumbus.

Re: 2013 Free Agents

Vollmer is going to demand a lot of cash. Yes a lot of RTs are better than Polumbus, but Polumbus is a great backup and, quiet frankly, I believe that this whole line was good enough to win a super bowl this year. RT is a need but not as big as CB and Safety.

"The 22-year-old former USC standout went to Canada to prove he was healthy enough to play football again after suffering a heart attack, the subject of a lawsuit against the school in which Armstead alleges the attack was brought on by painkillers."

Strange. Painkillers don't give you a heart attack, not sure what happened there. My guess is either he did cocaine which caused the heart attack, or had a virus which caused inflammation around the heart. Regardless, if he checks out could be a worthwhile addition.

Would definitely be interesting for the NFL to expand their drafting. Since we have limited draft picks - this would be a great way to get talent if it's out there. Canada / arena football / etc are good, but is there any talent in rugby players or worldwide? Basketball is now getting elite players from Europe, there's got to be someone worldwide who's big and fast who we could develop on the practice squad..
