Mort was on the radio in Atlanta this morning and a friend of mine sent me what he had to say about the situation in Washington:
Chris Mortensen had some critical words about Bob's leadership ability and said he blames Snyder for creating the problem. He did not dog Bob but questioned whether he could be the leader as a franchise QB. He said Baby Shanny was a great coach and it would be a mistake to let him go. Also said Daddy Shanny may not want to be back because he felt undermined by Snyder. This was on 93.7 The Fan.
All he say she say at this point |

take away moss and fletcher, the one thing he has done is make the skins younger

Yeah, I was just posting for info sake.. I do think there's some unhappiness on Mike's end but there shouldn't be regarding Snyder. Unless there's stuff going on behind the scenes that's not out there, Dan has stayed in the background and let him do his thing. |

it's obvious MS is not happy anymore in DC , look at his reactions on the sidelines and after games. Of course losing does that to u |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
our offense has no identity. besides sloppy.
i feel like the defense just lacks a playmaker or two. we need a beast defensive end, a safety, a cb. put a beast inside either orak or ryan and whoa. |
Everybody talks about McCown and Trestman which is true, but look at his history dating back to Bernie Kosar at the U. Everywhere the guy has been his QB's and offenses have been at the top of their game - Scott freaking Mitchell. Lol

I agree. Snyder has been invisible. Shanny has won a single playoff game in 15 years of coaching. He has had more than enough opportunity to be successful in that time span. |

We don't need him to help us lose. |

Snyder has won two playoff games in 14 years of owning, and he hired a guy who has won one playoff game in the last 15 years of coaching. Seems like they're made for each other. |

Well most of that is D Our Off is pretty young besides Moss |

London Fletcher skews it quite a bit. :D |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Second oldest team in football this year.
My great math skills tell me that if we drop Rocca and Fletcher this year we will drop below the middle of the pack. Although, that is not fair since they are technically on the team this year. Also, Moss is in his mid 30's and i'm not sure he'll be on this team next year either. Outside of that. The roster is fairly young. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Moss is done he'll retire and so will fletch
|
Were not the only team with a couple aged vets throwing off the curve though guys.
|
We have 13 guys 7 or more years in the league, the eagles have 5. Id have to look at the rest of the division/ league.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Some of the oline and dlinemen are pretty old.

Yup, Chester plays like he's 70. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Our oldest lineman on either side is 30.
Only 10 guys 30 or older. Guys like Fletcher (40), Rocca (38), and Moss (34) skew things a bit. Heck even Grossman is 33. |

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
D Hall, Moss, Sav, London, and Rex all gone this offseason. Age wont be an issue anymore after this year, its a non issue really.

Three lineman are 30. Chester, Monty, and Golston. |
Three lineman are 30. Chester, Monty, and Golston.
All potentially could be gone next year as well. I'm not really worried about the '2nd oldest team' thing. Out of our core on both sides of the ball (RGIII, Morris, Helu, Garcon, Reed, Williams, Kerrigan, Rak, Cofield) expected back next year, only Rak and Cofield are on the wrong side of 28. Fletcher, Moss, Rocca, Golston, Chester, Doughty, Merriweather, Carriker, Bowen, Wilson will all be somewhere else and replaced by younger players. Long ways away from when most of our key contributors were nearly 30 or worse. |

I think we keep hall |

I don't believe it's an issue either. That said, everyone we do keep will be a year older next year and we might replace guys like Rex with people as old, if not older. |

What if we win more games? Can we then say the team is too young we could have gone to the SB with more veteran leadership. |

No. Rex is eternal and will never be replaced. |

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Best players under 25 on this roster:
Griffin, Reed, Hankerson, Amerson, Helu (three more days!), Morris (eight more days!), and then after that you're looking at Rambo or Phillip Thomas. No first round pick next year. Trent's just 25. That's your core heading into the future. Everybody else is fungible. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Good breakdown of our 'young' players from John Keim.

Not sure when his birthday was but he was on this list earlier this year. Here's another list to consider as well. Funny, for the oldest team in the league, only KC and Seattle have more than one player on either list along with us. |

At this point, he is what is is, which is a nice piece to have, capable of making a play, and more valuable to the team when he is cheap. He has just one more year as a cheap starter, so I don't think it's controversial to omit him from a discussion of core Redskins. Orakpo is a more important player, but whether he gets re-signed or they sign someone in free agency or draft someone to replace him, it's all the same going forward. If the Redskins were hanging out around the top of the NFC East standings consistently, I'd be all in on bringing back Orakpo, but given the position of the team, those cap dollars gained by not signing him have some value too. |

Kerrigan seems to benefit from the 'try hard-scrappy worker' infatuation that fans sometime get caught up in. He makes plays but there is far too much time where he's invisible as well. I feel you, I'd lean towards Rak being a priority but so much will also depend on coaching/scheme. If we make a change at DC and go back to a 4-3, I'm not sold on Rak & Kerrigan as DE because they're too light and also not comfortable with either of them being OLB in a 4-3 with multiple responsibilities, especially coverage. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Orakpo and Kerrigan could probably play weakside end, they are both pretty much the perfect size for that. Not sure if they could transition to a strong side DE though, and at this point, I would be more comfortable playing Orakpo than Kerrigan.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
BTW, did Mortensen say exactly how Dan Snyder has supposedly undermined Shanahan?
I would guess he didn't because I suspect it's all a bunch of b.s. Here we have a coach who is in his fourth year and is losing who all of the sudden is supposedly being undermined by the team owner. I haven't heard even of whisper of any interference by Dan Snyder until now. If Mort is acting as a mouthpiece for Shanny, then Shanny must really want out to start spreading such rumors. Does anyone have any further information about this? |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Rudy comes on tonight so Id like to nominate Ara Parseghian.

People got tired of Gibbs' pressers too. He always took the blame and now Shanny takes none. Funny.
