Yes, it is normal for older vets to make younger players pay for various things. The part where Martin was not included on the trip might be abnormal.
"Every year, as tradition, the offensive line goes on a big Vegas trip. Everything is paid for in advance, from hotels to a private jet to show tickets. Martin originally verbally committed to the trip, then later backed out after everything was booked. Now, if you can’t go because of an emergency then it’s okay, but to say you’re going and then decide you don’t want to spend the money later? Everything was paid for, and then when it was time to pay up he didn’t want to go anymore. You don’t do that to your brothers. The veterans who paid for it, including Incognito and others, asked for Martin’s share, and he gave it to them. End of story." This. Never really cared for Incognito, but I don't want Martin on my team either. We don't need another scenario like that on our team. |

I think it's obvious we need bigger linemen. That's one of the reasons I've been advocating drafting Cyril Richardson.

Re: the all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread sponsored by Paintrain
Interesting
According to Pro Football Focus, all of the 3-4 linebackers who had more sacks than Orakpo last year rushed the quarterback more, some of them a lot more. For example, Mario Williams of the Bills had three more sacks, 14, than Orakpo’s 11 did but he rushed the quarterback 184 more times (547-383) to get them. Tamba Hali of the Chiefs had one more sack than Orakpo while trying to get a sack 117 more times (500-363). If Orakpo got sacks on the same percentage of his rushes and went after the quarterback as many times as Williams did, Orakpo would have almost 17 sacks. It's going to be longer than 6 games. Also, the JLC report was back in January when he first failed. He's not reporting that now. Also, apparently Fred Davis or his marketing person thinks we are as stupid as he is.
Unfortunately, a couple of months ago I took a supplement that contained a banned substance. Re: the all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread sponsored by Paintrain
Speculation that Ray Rice might be cut.
It's ESPN, so take it however you want. Baltimore Ravens face tough decisions with Ray Rice - ESPN
The Ravens are in a lose-lose situation with Rice. In most instances, teams gain salary-cap room by cutting a player. But, the way Rice's contract is structured, the Ravens would lose $5.5 million in cap space by parting ways with Rice because of the pro-rated bonuses that would have to be absorbed. To put that in context, that $5.5 million is more than what the Ravens saved when they signed linebacker Terrell Suggs to an extension Monday. The Ravens could designate Rice as a post-June 1 cut, which would create $4 million in cap space in 2014. The problem is, Rice would count $9.5 million in dead money in 2015, which is a large chunk for a player not on the roster. Anyway you look at it, the Ravens lose a significant amount of cap space if they decide to cut him.
They'd be foolish to cut Rice after one offense, though it IS a major offense in my eyes. But, if he does face a suspension, he's an expensive player to have on the shelf. I've been telling Ravens fans I know that they're going to regret paying Flacco so much. He hit the jackpot timing-wise with his contract but it's going to hurt this team for years to come. Look at the Giants since they paid Eli, downward slide and they can't afford to even protect him or give him RBs any more. The same thing is happening to the Ravens, who have little cap room now and may face losing Arthur Jones, Jacoby Jones, Michael Oher, Dennis Pitta, Daryl Smith, Corey Graham...and possibly Ray Rice after unloading a lot of talent last season. |
