Yes that really sucks him going to the Eagles
They are loaded in the backfield now hurts us two ways I was hoping we would get him

Brandon Browner - DB - Seahawks Free agent CB will visit the Redskins Thursday night.

Report is that Brandon Browner is going to visit us today. We could have the best suspended secondary in the league.

Eagles got Sproles for a 5th round pick.

Browner and Amerson on the outside with Hall in the slot which Crawford develops. Hmmmmm

Pretty fair deal I think.

What 5th rounder is going to come in and have the same type of impact he can bring?

Sproles and McCoy in that backfield? Ouch.

Browner is rated the #75 best CB out of 75.... plus he is suspended

convert him to safety ? minimum contract ?

Lotus 03-13-2014 09:57 AM

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

Yeah, I'd have given a 5th for Sproles, too. We must not have offered since our pick that round is higher than the Eagles.

That might work....
After the first four games anyways.
If this guy can stay off the bong then its a damn good pick up.

That really hurts thinking about him on Philly. A little scary, actually.

I am no fan of Browner or his habit of getting suspended, but if he actually stays on the field, he'll be a great player for us. Still, I'd rather get someone without the baggage like Munnerlyn.

Seems like we are winning. No big contracts. Isn't that the goal of football on the warpath. Don't pay anyone too much and you win. Right?

Interest in Jason Hatcher too.

I'm all for poaching players from division rivals as long as it works out more like Cofield and less like Bowen, Rocca and McNabb.

Browner is one big, tough SOB. I like that. Let's sign him and beat up the other teams' WR's for a change. We can get by for four games without him.

Maybe he can coach up Tanard Jackson on how to beat an indefinite suspension.

I think the goal is no dumb contracts, I think many of the contracts handed out the past few days may turn out to be dumb, but it takes a full off season to find out who the "winners" are.

You shouldn't put stock in the very fallible rating systems on the net. Browner can play a little. You could be on to something with him as a safety. He would knock the snot out of people at SS. He's listed at 6-4, 221.

Monkeydad 03-13-2014 10:32 AM

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

Good thinking. He's built for SS.

That rating system can't be accurate, he's better than dead last.

Whatever he's injecting makes him hunt heads on the field...him and Niles Paul as gunners on special teams would be fun to watch.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

Free agent CB Walter Thurmond III has visits scheduled with the Bucs and Redskins.

Thurmond is also getting interest from old coach Gus Bradley, and the Seahawks want him back as well. He's likely looking for a starting job after serving as Seattle's nickel back.

per JLC

Monkeydad 03-13-2014 10:40 AM

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

Thurmond also has had a 4-game suspension for pot.

We want Seattle's level of play but don't really need their drug-addicted players and suspensions.

However, he's a solid player who is starter-quality. He stepped in and played very well when Browner was suspended himself.

I'd take him over Browner I think, he has less baggage and we won't have to wait a month to see him suit up.

we need a solid corner not too expensive and a solid safety not too expensive. Build through the draft.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

Why do I get the sense that Free Agents dont want to come play in Washington? Is it the FO, organization as a whole, the new coaching staff, Haslett as D-cor? I woulda thought RG3 would have attracted more players to come on offense...

I think its a legit question, but an assumption on my part...

I dont think players are intentionally avoiding the skins.

I do think that the Pats and other top tier franchises may get a slight preference from players when it comes to the Revises of the world.

Money talks and is the only thing that matters. Ill bet money our money will talk next year. This year lets plug holes, get healthy and see what we got.

In the case of Sproles, the problem was not a player's choice, the problem was that we just didn't pony up. I wonder if this is true for others - they'd come to us if we offered enough $$ but we didn't.

I heard the Mitchell deal was the same as Pittsburg offerred. Also that the Cleveland guard we got was like 3rd choice, the other 2 guys who got similar deals went somewhere else.

Still options out there to fix the defense guys.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

There's no reason to panic. The Redskins haven't missed out on a single FA value. Revis and TJ Ward are the only players to sign with a team below their market value, and neither would have considered Washington.

The money that has been spent has been costly. Plenty of time to wait out the market.

GTripp0012 03-13-2014 12:02 PM

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

Can you imagine where this team would be if Orakpo had signed elsewhere? They'd have $24 million in cap and no place to spend it.
