Re: The everything Gruden thread
When Vinny was canned and he brought in Allen and Shanny I thought Snyder had finally turned a corner. In 2012 we were all sky high and thought we had finally found our formula but that ended against Seattle in playoffs and then followed into 2013 season. I believed a lot of the drama was on Shanny, but with this year I am second guessing that. Now with how this season is going and all the end of season drama and leaks before games it is pathetic. Basically Bruce Allen is a slight better Vinny and is Snyders buddy and expert picnic coordinator. I think Snyder is conflicted about this if he gives up on RG then he looks like dumba$$ but would show that he listening to the football people, if he gives up on Gruden after one year he will fall further in the dumps with fans especially if another coach comes in and cant make RG a QB. Also if he fires Gruden we be the team no one wants to coach and be hammered by ESPN left and right because of big brother Jon. We screwed........but we all have know this for years, the Redskins would make a good reality show.
I don't know what to think of this soap opera! What does bother me is the fact that Gruden gave up on RGIII and Kirk way too prematurely.
Gave up? Gave up. . . How long are you supposed to stay with a guy who you have to uninstall your game plan for (against Tampa Bay) because he can't do the basic things required of an NFL quarterback? If sports writers, talk radio hosts, and fans on a Redskins forum know that Griffin can't: look at more than one side of the field on a play, make reads beyond a check down (sometimes not even that), scramble left and throw, move in the pocket without losing sight of his receivers, escape pressure with his feet or a quick release, anticipate his receivers coming open; then the defensive coordinators who we face probably know all those things too. It is their job to know all that. After 3 years and multiple injuries, Griffin is the easiest of our QBs to defend. Out of Kapernick, Wilson, and Griffin, all of whom run a mobile QB type offense we have the least skilled of the bunch. Wilson is slick and smart. He takes care of the ball and himself but isn't a great quarterback. Everybody keeps hoping to recapture the magic of 2012. This organization is chasing a pipedream. But, this is the guy we need to put winning football games, the careers of 50 to 60 players (idk whether to count the practice squad), and the livelihood of coaches on hold for so he can learn the basics he should already know. Yea sure. |

Well, Bruce Allen's first choice was David Shaw |

I think that if we improve the oline and db's - get a real DC, and we win even 7-9 games that he will get another year to draft a qb. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I can understand that. If you put two consecutive losing seasons together then it's hard to justify keeping. Unless improvement is shown |
Re: The everything Gruden thread
Everything i've seen and read says that Gruden is gone at the end of the season. One article said that a "furious" Snyder considered firing Gruden in the days following the RG3 benching, but he was basically talked down by Bruce Allen and other top advisors.
It was made clear that the next Head Coach is not going to have much say / input on personnel decisions, and one of the first issues addressed when they go out and get a new HC is that RG3 is the unquestionable starter. I kind of wonder who they are going to find. In my opinion as of late people aren't exactly breaking down the door wanting to work for the redskins... |
Re: The everything Gruden thread
I think today's game should tell us more about where Gruden stands with the players. I thought the team was lifeless in the 1st half against the Colts but they played harder in the 2nd half. If they come out on fire against the Rams, then that would be a very good sign that they support Gruden. If not...

I agree! Can't trust anonymous sources from Redskins park. Last week, the big head line was Snyder and Allen gave up on RG3. Today it's another story. Realistically, the truth is somewhere in the middle. RG3 Regressed and Gruden has a shitshow of a team. We could go into 2016 without either of them. |

His contract is guaranteed so yeah, I doubt Snyder wants to pay him $25M for one season worth of work. |

This team is in perpetual disfunction with this thinking
Keep rolling in HC's every two years until he finds the right one is exactly what I think Snyder should do. If he hired the wrong man, the problem must be fixed. More years of the wrong man doesn't fix anything. What will fix it is hiring the right man. I would go no more than two years with any coach who has failed to significantly improve the team during that time. Three more years of misery with a failed HC serves no purpose. I'd rather switch out some player personnel after two years than to endure a poor HC for five years. We all know that the odds of Snyder hiring the right person are very low but if he keeps trying he might get lucky. |

How many years do we suck with RG3 before Snyder finally admits the whole trade was a bad idea? Somebody somewhere on here said we have to give him 8 years. That is wayy to long IMO - i see 8 years of losing seasons... |

Re: The everything Gruden thread
"It's a miserable position to be in," Gruden told reporters this week. He said that he needs to call better plays, but added that the players need to execute the plays that are called.
"They've got to go out and make some plays. We need leaders to stand up," he said. When mistakes become so widespread, the coaching staff usually gets the blame. Many observers think Gruden, who took over a 3-13 team and faced a stiff learning curve in his first season as an NFL head coach, probably gets a mulligan. But for his part, Gruden told the Washington Times: "I feel like I’ve failed, in a lot of different ways." “When you have a lot of penalties, when you have a lot of turnovers, a lack of production in key situations — I think that’s a reflection of coaching, and I’m miserable in that regard," he said in the Times interview published Thursday. By switching out so frequently would we be scrambling for offseason signings and settling for less than ideal free agents? Would our cap be all screwed up in a couple of years switching if we switch back and forth? Would we have any consistency (like the damn Cowboys) through the draft? Can our FO switch out personnel effectively in two years? |
Re: The everything Gruden thread
Just heard Cooley on a pregame interview. According to him, naturally he still has many friends on the team that talk to him straight. He stated the team is totally behind Jay, that they love the direction he is trying to take the team. They love his honesty and leadership. They believe he CAN get it done....
Love to hear this, especially under the circumstances we are operating. |

Fake punt on your own 30...1 for 8 on challenges for the year. This clown is clowning hard.

That fake punt on 4th down was by far the most stupidest coaching decision I ever saw a head coach make. Gibbs, Norv, Marty, or Shanahan would not have decided on it. They would have punted....

I'm tired, fire that S.O.B.

Re: The everything Gruden thread
coach is pathetic - can't win with any qb's. need to build o-line around williams, entire coaching staff, go back to 4-3 - draft ol,dl,db, s . free agents - ol, s cb, lb, front office, clean house, starting with Allen, get a coach who is willing to adapt his playbook to fit the players he has until he has the personal he needs to run it. At this point Morris as the interim hc, can't do any worse
players - cut - older players - make a youth movement, lets see what we have/don't have..... and start purging them in the offseason |
