Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
I’ve been getting more and more into the draft as the years go by.
Even though Goodel has fecked it up by moving it to Thursday. Anyway, I took a vacation day tomorrow so I can thoroughly enjoy tonight. Yesterday we brought home a brand new 50” TV. My wife and I are going to a local brewpub for dinner after work. Then I will be shopping for some choice brewhaha. I think a nice stout or a porter is in order. Then I get the new remote for the rest of the night. :food-smil |

With Mariota still on the board at 5, We trade with Cleveland our 5th overall for their 12th, their 2nd this year and their 3rd next year. Rd 1 -12 Ereck Flowers, T
That's not nearly enough return for, in essence, trading Cleveland the man they think will be their Franchise QB. Cleveland already offered both of their 2015 1st Round picks to Tenn for the second pick (Mariota). They'll give up more than that to get him, IMO. If Mariota is worth that much at pick #2, then he's worth that much at pick #5. I love the idea of picking Ereck Flowers at #12. He reminds me of Trent Williams. I think he would be a true bookend OT. |

If Jamies Winston would somehow fall to 5 we should:
Draft him or trade out? |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Trade out!!!
We'd party like rock stars with all the picks we had after that! |

Sent from my S6 Edge
My point is that chart value is irrelevant in this case. Cleveland would be trading so they could get Mariota and everyone knows it. They would not be making a generic swap of picks for an unknown player. Mariota is worth the same to them whether his is taken at #2 or #5. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
NBC4's Dianna Marie Russini has been told the Redskins are "planning and hoping" to take Florida OLB Dante Fowler at No. 5 overall.
It's widely been assumed the Redskins and new GM Scot McCloughan want to trade back. But they also want an edge rusher to complement Ryan Kerrigan, and don't want to miss out on both Fowler and Clemson's Vic Beasley. SI's Peter King also said Monday he can't see the Redskins passing on Fowler at No. 5. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Dianna also said that if Fowler isn't there at #5, then the Skins would prefer to trade down and take an offensive lineman.
BTW, you can be sure that Scot M. is pissed off that somebody leaked that information to the press. Who is the big mouth at Redskins Park? |

Keim has stated multiple times that most leaks have stopped and information was extremely tough to get. That this was a priority in the offseason. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Given the rumored price that the Titans have for their #2 overall pick (they want Cleveland's two first rounders and their second round pick), I'm hoping that this results in them letting Mariotta pass and he falls to us.
I imagine Washington's price for their #5 would be less than what the Titans are asking. Also, I think teams wouldn't want Mariotta to fall to the Jets, who would definitely take him. I'd have a harder time passing on Leonard Williams than Mariotta in a trade down scenario. A think a great scenario for the Skins would be to get P. Rivers, the #17 pick, and a 3rd rounder (maybe a 2nd rounder) for our #5 overall. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Todd McShay's final mock draft
Like Mel Kiper, McShay has Winston and Mariota going 1-2. Dante Fowler goes to the Redskins at No. 5, but: “if the Redskins are presented with a good trade offer to move back, that’s what they’ll do." per McShay |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
if Fowler is the pick what happens to Trent Murphy ?
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
if Fowler is the pick what happens to Trent Murphy ?
Nothing. He stays with the team as a backup OLB. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
I want Dante Fowler. If he's gone and we get Beasley I'll be happy too, but Fowler would pump me up sky high. One of those two and a good O-Lineman in the second, maybe another in the 3rd or beyond, and a FS in the 3rd or 4th. Pick up a third down back, WR, or TE that can catch and block...I'm good to go baby! Staying along the lines of BPA of course. But I certainly think it's possible. At least in my head.
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
Murphy's not going anywhere. He's a good young LB.
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
I wouldn't be surprised if we trade the pick (granted someone is willing) I think giving RGIII the 5th year option raises the cap next year and picking someone in the teens is cheaper than #5.
|
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
if Fowler is the pick what happens to Trent Murphy ?
We need him. Depth is so important, having a rotation and keeping pass rushers fresh is important and injures are a reality in the NFL. We need three great OLB's, that is why getting Fowler or Beasley (if Williams is gone) is huge. |

RGIII getting $16M is NOT done deal. He has to earn it. Not based on potential. |

I know that, what happens if he reverts to 2012? No one knows, just have to plan ahead. You also have Williams and Kerrigan's contract coming up. |

Who is the big mouth at Redskins Park?
This is a deliberate leak in order to advertise to the other teams we are open to trades. This is similar to posting a for sale sign in the front yard. The more offers the better. It does not mean we will do anything (up or down). Trying to get a bidding war started is smart. I still think Williams, Fowler or Beasley will be there and you take one. Trading down dilutes the talent pool too much. As has been widely reported there are only 6 to 8 blue chip prospects. Trading down from 5 has to be a big offer. |
Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
surprised so many people want a defensive player. are we all forgetting how putrid our line was last year? or the last couple of years for that matter

Well the best players at #5 are all defensive players (well except A. Cooper and K. White). If the Redskins trade back, they will likely draft a lineman, there are very good options in the middle of the first round. With Orakpo gone and Hatcher's age, it is very hard to pass on a talented edge rusher (Fowler, Beasley, etc., etc.) or a d-lineman (L. Williams). |

Deep draft for offensive lineman, can grab good ones in the second round still.

I was totally on board with that thought a few weeks ago. I wanted a guard #1, but a few things changed my mind. Orakpo is gone. If we dont replace him with a high caliber edge guy then the opponent double teams Kerrigan and we have no pass rush on either edge. That means our offense plays catch up for the whole game. And we suck at catch up. Although having said that I would support a trade down if we get a substantial amount of picks for it. |
