At least you have to give him credit. Of not holding out like a lot of players do.
I'm not 100% sure that it was Cooley, but it was a semi-relevant Redskin. I'm trying to go back and find the link so i can post it for you guys to give your thoughts on the piece. Numerous articles on Scott M - defending his thinking, and believing that they can find a "budget" QB that will be able to be "Just as good" as Cousins, while costing far less. Moneyball at the QB position, if you will.

IMO, Cousins' best chance for a big payday is that he plays well enough this year that someone wants to give him the long term deal with the security that he has been after. If he plays lights out and the skins go deep in the playoffs, that is really the worst case for the skins because he at that point would be in the neighborhood range of 22 - 24 million, which the Skins flat out won't pay. But somebody will. Ever since this whole story has been going on, here are the teams that I think have the best chance to get Cousins in 2017, and make sense.

Miami
Denver
San Francisco
New York Jets
Right, because that's just too large of a number, regardless of salary cap percentages, or other nuanced details that explain why average qb's today are making slightly less than that.

I am enjoying a drama free training camp, but i am tired of the KC contract talk. Let's enjoy the season and worry about it next year.

I almost wish there was some drama to push the contract talk to the back.

Hey Alvin,

Are you local to our area or did you just take that picture was you were traveling through? I live about 30 minutes from this exact cornfield and saw it for the first time last night when I was on my way to Bear's Den. Very cool and as soon as I saw it I thought of the WarPath!

Maybe this is just who Kirk is as a QB. A guy who's a bit streaky, high highs but also some low lows. When he's on he can carry you, when he's off he's going to blow some games.

Without a strong D and running game, his weaknesses are magnified.

You can say that about a lot of QBs. Heck when Brady started off that's what he relied on to win games. It wasn't until later on in his career that he was able to carry an offense with little help.

Which highlights the the coaching issues even more...why are we not trying to run the ball and preparing the game plan if cousins is not on? If cousins is off we shouldn't be throwing it more...makes no sense

I never said Big Cuz was another Tom Brady. I pointed out how even an all time great needed help from his run game and defense when he was getting his feet wet.

So if Tom Brady, one of the top three greatest QBs of all time, needed help when he got started we can't fault Kirk Cousins because he's not a one man army and needs help, like 99% of all field generals.

As bad as the first 3 games have looked, Kirk's rankings on F.O. are encouraging and a good sign in my opinion:

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | QUARTERBACKS 2016

Kirk is 13th in DYAR and 15th in DVOA. He is ahead of some pretty notable QBs and has looked like dog crap.

If, and it's a big if, our redzone efficiency was a little bit better it would be a much different narrative.

This is something they can improve with personnel we have by not committing stupid penalties and calling fades over and over.

Drive stats. The offense will be top tier if Jay and McVay and Kirk can get their crap together in the red zone.

The last 3 games.
6 tds to 2 ints and has a great completion %. Time to pay the man IMO. Yes he throws some ints but you have to take chances in order to get big plays.

I agree pay him. He is on pace for 4500 yards, 24 TD, and 16 INT.

At the beginning of the season, we all predicted we would be 2 - 2 after the first four. We are still on pace to 9 - 7 or 10 - 6.

Yep 2-2 isn't bad and we really should be 3-1. Overall kirk is doing fine. He'll have around 26 tds again and 13 or so ints.. Not bad at all

Kirk has silently had an incredible couple of weeks. Last year he didn't round into form until mid season. Hopefully this year its smooth sailing from here on out!

I'm not worried about Kirk, I'm worried about the Run game. Kirk is a good QB and he will keep getting better. Brees wasn't great until like year 4 or 5. Also Kirk's INTs were low last yr and has only had 2 in the past 3 weeks

:saywhat:You guys are killing me that say pay him after 4 weeks:saywhat:
Stats dont mean shit,RG3 had good stats. He had another costly int Sunday that gave Cleveland an easy TD that luckily the team was able to overcome by getting some turnovers in the 4th,and it's a good thing because our defense wasnt stopping the Browns without those turnovers.
Kirk's problem has been consistency, how bout we hold off for a while before saying pay the man.

I agree about holding off on any contract negotiations until we see more, however RG-3 has nothing to do with it. He never, ever had the accuracy or quick release that KC has demonstrated.

That for the most part is true, when watching highlights from his first year he was pretty damn good with his accuracy and getting it out quick, after that it fell to shit, but that wasnt my point.
My point was a lot of RG3 defenders would point to how good his stats were, and stats mean nothing when they come at the wrong time of the game.

Point of order: playing under the franchise tag means you are forbidden by the CBA from negotiating during the season. We cannot negotiate with him AT ALL until after the Super Bowl.

So stahp it. Just ride the season out and see how he does.

Stats mean a lot. And the more stats you have on a player, the more they mean. They help in making a more objective appraisal of a players performance. They also provide a broader perspective on a player when his stats are compared to those of his peers.

Here are some of Cousin's stats and rankings so far this season:

Total Yards: 1,172 (6th)
Completion Pct: 66.2 (13th)
Yards per Game: 293.0 (6th)
Touchdowns: 6 (11th)
Interceptions Thrown: 4 (12th)
QB Rating: 91.8 (13th)

So, let's just say that Kirk is the 13th rated QB based on the above numbers. I just can't come up with a another solution that is likely to produce a better QB than keeping Kirk Cousins would. He could be a Top 10 QB by season's end and that is very hard to find. Nevertheless, I agree with you that there is no reason to lock him up now.

Thanks because I was sort of wondering why the franchise meant absolutely nothing if there could still be negotiations. Lol
