With our luck Jay will be begging and pleading for forgiveness, and then Wade will be like "I want to work where my son works. Gotta go catch a flight to LA. Shoulda hired me 2 years ago." |

It's possible, but only if McVay offered the Rams OC job to Wes Phillips. I personally can't see the youngest head coach in the league going with the youngest OC. If he doesn't offer Wes the OC job, then any job McVay offers wouldn't represent a promotion over his current gig, and Gruden would have the option to refuse to grant the interview. |
Re: The coordinators
Any information about the reasons behind the firing of Mike Clark the strength coach?
I can't find anything anywhere as to why. |

But seriously, I was just preparing myself for some form of disappointment, out of all the scenarios where he doesn't join us that would be the least likely. |
Re: The coordinators
If Shefty's right, Wade Phillips will join the Rams as DC

Wade to LA. Man LA really fucked us today.

Rap Sheet corroborates. Fuck.

And people thought McVay was some overrated kid? He's making smart moves and will be successful.

Rams double digit losses again this year, book it

I'll bet you, this team has way too much talent and between McVay and Phillips they could surprise. Jeff Fisher was an underachieving piece of shit. |
Re: The coordinators
No doubt. If they don't even interview Wade I am sold even less on Jay. Or if they interview him and basically come away unimpressed I will have to wonder why. Do they just not care about past production? Or one of their requirements is a young energetic guy? Can't understand how Jay wouldn't have learned anything from the Joe B. experience.
They had a deer in the headlights at the most important position this year and a bad OL. It is going to be an uphill battle. |
According to the source, Phillips was “very concerned about the Redskins overall lack of talent” on the defensive side of the ball. The Redskins, per the source, strongly believe they are only “two or three starters” from fielding a very competitive defense if all their players can remain healthy and get on the field." That optimism wasn’t enough to sway Phillips who will now run a defense loaded with talent in Los Angeles.
|
Re: The coordinators
From Ian Rapapport:
The goal for new LA #Chargers* coach Anthony Lynn: OC to be Ken Whisenhunt, DC to be Gus Bradley. … Not a bad staff. |
Re: The coordinators
We'll probably hire pettine which is fine

Re: The coordinators
in my opinion the best DC hire would be Mike Vrabel, I don't care he's never been a DC. His stock is rising, Houston #1 defense without Watt, Vrabel makes Romeo Crannel look good.

We could take the loss of Wes Phillips, but the loss of Callahan would be disastrous

Re: The coordinators
Yeah, this is looking more and more like a friggin train wreck. Just when I was starting to hear the C word (continuity), we will potentially be replacing 2/3 of the coordinators, and over half the entire staff, and still can't decide if we have our QB of the future.
Brilliant! |
Re: The coordinators
I think we will be fine with we are able to keep Callahan, I hope they make this a priority.
|
Re: The coordinators
We seriously believe we're 2-3 starters away from being good on defense? And our offensive coaches are about to be raided?

Re: The coordinators
Sean was a good OC, I bet Jay takes over playcalling now
I really hope not. A head coach should head coach, a general manager should general manage, and an offensive coordinator should call plays. Of course the HC has a toe in every decision, but y'all get my drift. |
Re: The coordinators
Give me Jay Gruden, Mike McCoy, and Mike Pettine and I'll call it a staff. We can fill in the rest if anyone else leaves. I'd also be okay with Callahan as OC. And obviously I'd love if he stayed as our offensive line coach.
I wish McVay all the best, but I'm not crying over him leaving. I'm in San Diego. I'll be watching live when we play against him next year. |

Haven't heard that yet, but I could see it, he didn't leave on bad terms. But we have more talent and coaches don't go back to their old teams often. I'm sure there are other good candidate's but he's my first choice. Didn't spend much time reading about OCs. Didn't know I needed to. |

Lol. I don't judge anyone by the content of their comments anymore becuase I've had my own fair share of doozies. I think we have a strong chance of getting the 2 coordinators. |

Shit. Confirmed to the Rams.

Re: The coordinators
Pettine is as good a DC as anyone out there. I also understand Wade Phillips point, our defensive talent sucks. Did anyone really think he was going to come? Less job security and less talent. It may have been an opportunity to get an opinion on the players here also.
|
Re: The coordinators
I'll be happy with either Pettine or Bradley. I'm leaning towards Pettine a bit after reading that article Schneed (?) posted. Bradley's defense actually seems REALLY simple and it looks like you need a ton of talent to run it. Pettine's looked like it was all about technique and adjustments.

agree...Wade just never seemed in the cards here and that's fine. Pettine or Bradley would be good hires. From an offense side of things Im not concerned and Im glad we didn't bring in McCoy here. |
Re: The coordinators
I'm seeing reports where Anthony Lynn is eying Gus Bradley as DC for the Chargers. We heard the exact same thing about McVay for Phillips yesterday and that deal got done PDQ. I've already said it in the other thread, but I think the Redskins need to start looking with a sense of urgency now. These guys are coming off the boards fast.

Re: The coordinators
Im lost on why people are upset McCoy wont be coming here....
|
Re: The coordinators
Is anyone really that surprised we haven't landed one of the top available D coordinators yet? I mean it's not an awesome situation they would be coming in to.
The offense was about the only bright spot last year, and now with McVay leaving (and maybe other assistants with him), possibly losing the two best receivers, and the fact that the front office can't figure out who Kirk Cousins is...it likely won't be the same. The lack of talent on the defense can't be appealing, unless you just love a challenge. Top it all off with a head coach on the back end of his contract, and an owner that hasn't extended a head coach in 18 years...why would you want this job? Everybody thinks we just interview and sign whoever the top guy is, but it's a two way street. These guys are coming in and interviewing the organization too, to see if it's a good fit for them. (Wade could see from Denver that it wasn't). So, don't be surprised if we end up with Manusky by default... |
Re: The coordinators
I'm fine with Pettine, like I said in earlier posts, he was my second choice after Wade anyway, BUT we need to go ahead and do this, soon there will be nobody left except for Manusky, at which point we will be fucked!
|
Re: The coordinators
I think Wade just liked LA better, and honestly it's probably a better fit. I really wanted him here, so it's mostly just me accepting that he's not ever going to come here. Sad! (lol)
Maybe there is someone on one of the remaining playoff teams that they are really high on as well. I mean, KC, Seattle, and Houston certainly have talented position coaches that might be worth looking at. |
