I do find it funny that they cut Ricky Jean after he mouthed off about the FO. Why not release the guy weeks ago if you knew you were not going to keep him? It's just seems like more Redskins FO BS.
Or they were waiting to figure out how things would shake out in the first days of free agency and then decide on any moves with current players. But I'm sure he mouthing off about the FO didn't help. |

That's fine. He'll lower his asking price in time. I'd take him on a reasonable one year deal. |

DL is too rich especially if the college draft turns out to be anywhere near as good as speculated.
DL is too rich especially if the college draft turns out to be anywhere near as good as speculated.
I'm not overly enthused by the linemen that we've signed so far. The FO better address the interior early in the draft, or the run defense will continue to be a sieve.

Replacement for Terence Garvin most likely...special team contributor etc. |
Replacement for Terence Garvin most likely...special team contributor etc.
Carter has a slightly better chance than Chico of making the team. A tenth year vet gets a minimum of close to a million dollars. A rookie makes about half that. And there is nothing in Carter's resume that says he has more value than a tackling dummy.
From what little I've seen of McClain, I really like his motor. He seems to be a good penetrator and he is good versus the run. He was double-teamed a lot. I'm optimistic about his contributions.
McGee definitely has a reputation for not playing hard enough. I'm wondering if Jim Tomsula has a relationship with him and thinks he can motivate him. McGee is big and talented. If he puts out better effort, I think he could be a good player for us. BTW, I like the Ziggy Hood signing. He played hard for us last season.
I watched most of the games & I don't remember Ziggy ever being a factor. Wasn't he the lowest rated DT in the entire league last year? I can't be more in shock that they would bring that guy back. Hopefully, he will tear it up this year, but I won't be holding my breath. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Interesting Keim is hinting that a lot folks assumed Ricky jean and baker were big lockerroom guys. Apparently, they were but maybe the message didn't always jive with the staff or some of the players. One thing was true, the dline was bad the last couple years.
On the other hand, dhall is someone they want back, maybe a better leader in the lockerroom. |

Guess only legit DL left is Hankins? Otherwise we gamble with the draft, and the older DL that are released later in May-August.... |

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Hankins wants $10 million a year. This why it was foolish not to draft a DL until the 5th round in 2016. And why they must get two good ones early in the 2017 draft.
Manusky says he has 3 NGs now... Phillip Taylor, Joey Mbu Houston U, and Matt I. And says Lanier is now 290..... he must be sarcastic if he is counting on any of them Report: Johnathan Hankins looking for $10 million-plus per year | ProFootballTalk |

I can say that I wouldn't pay him $10M. I'm struggling to understand the big DL FA contracts because the draft is absolutely loaded with DL talent this year. Agree with you that a DL should have been picked early in last year's draft. Some of the early round DL's from last year's draft are developing nicely throughout the league. Players develop over time, some slower than others, so i think Matt I. has a chance to contribute at DT this season. Im hoping that Jim Tomsula can get him ready. I'm excited to hear that Lanier is now at 290 pounds. He is a talent at DE and I think he could provide us with effective pass-rushing from the DE position. Dare I say that he might become a star in a year or two? |

Perhaps you didn't notice this last season, but every time Ziggy was about to make a tackle either Big Swaggy or Ricky-Jean would push him out of the way or trip him so one of them could make the tackle instead. It's true! Would I lie about that just to win an argument? PFF should have a stat for greedy teammate interference with a tackling opportunity. If they did Ziggy would have been rated much higher. |

Except for
Swearinger, our acquisitions have sucked. Quit trying to put lipstick on a hog. None of these guys sans Swearinger will have a shot at starting. They were better off trying to keep Baker. |

The signings were about depth at best and keeping money for Kirk.

In today's NFL the draft is so important, you need those quality rookie guys to build from plus they come on the cheap for 4 years. The off season is far from over. Back in the day everyone was pissed when we went after the big fish now that we hold back everyone is still pissed. Damned if you do damned if you don't. |

It would be foolish to count on DHall, he has been injured the last 3 seasons. Hall has a total of 3 passes defended in the last 3 seasons. And he is 33 years old. If he does not take a major pay cut, he will not make the team. |
Huh?

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Yeah, Manusky said he liked swearinger moving around but liked him high. and Cooley on his film breakdown said that he was at FS most of the snaps in AZ. He also said something along the lines of him not being the same type of in the box player as Cravens. He called him a "peacock tackler," that he makes a show that he is going to hit you big, but doesn't quite deliver the blow and often is a shoestring tackler. He also said he does a good job of tackling well without hitting illegally. He gave him a B+ as a player.
When I watched highlights it looked like he was a hard hitting safety and much of what is said about him otherwise makes him out to be similar to a ravens, so I don't know. Are the Redskins trying to fit a square peg? Do they see something others don't? Or is his style misunderstood by the laymen but seen differently by football guys? Either way, I believe our Safety position is much improved with him here. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
As far as Hall, they've said they want to see what he's got left in him. He says he'd take a pay cut to stay. I think he will likely renegotiate and get a chance to compete, especially now that Butler is off the block.

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Jeez... time to move on from Hall already. His body is not going to hold up. Just go in another direction with some younger guys. I feel like he hasn't played in two years.

It's because he's played like 1/2 a game in two years. Can't believe they are counting on him for anything. |

it's not unheard of for dbs to have successful careers into their late 30's. i know he's had significant injuries the past couple years, but he's 33. here's to giving him the benefit of the doubt! |

Well the fact that he hasn't restructured or been released indicates they are counting on him to be a player for the Redskins this upcoming season. |
