That is exactly correct.
Most average to above average QB's will do well with all the weapons Chiefs have.
I am not sold and have never been sold on Smith.
Which is why two teams have gotten rid of him.
We have tp have a solid team around Smith to win.
We do not have that just yet.
Depending on what we have up to get Smith, this move is still a big unknown.
what are all the weapons?

they have a great slot wr (hill), a great te and a great rb (pass catching and running) . . . we have a damn good slot wr ourselves (crowder), a great te when healthy (caveat on when healthy) and thompson as our pass catching rb . . . just need a rb for running purposes, but we are not far off offensive talent wise from kansas city . . . and i still think docston will be a damn good wr too . . . KC was afraid to throw to him even when he was WIDE open

Welp the biggest one is the NFL League Rushing Champ Kareem Hunt

This is the key folks....this is the mutherfuckin key

Reed isn't Kelce only because hes made of glass, BUT we do have VDAVIS and I think they'll add another TE this OS. We need a RB bad, Perine is a good backup and CT is a scat back, we dont have a guy that scares anyone.

Weren't the Chiefs a playoff team last season with a RB by committee and not much in terms of receiving weapons (except Kelce)?

It totally makes no sense to me either. However, Steve Gallo is saying that something might be in the works. This is the same guy who broke the news of Kendall Fuller being the PTBNL in the trade. I find it hard to believe it will happen, but man this would sweeten this deal so much.

EDIT: Looking over the twitter, I'm not sure that actually is Alex Smith's.

Sorry for the fake news LOL

I know people said for the longest time that KC's Twitter feed didnt mean anything (looking at S10 here) but look at Alex Smith's:

https://twitter.com/QBAlex_Smith

He's photoshopped himself (although kinda looks like KC) and his main image is the Skins offense on the sideline.

KC's has said "Business Inquiries: Luke Munson luke@lwsports.net"

My guess is highest paid player in the NFL at a 27 million per year clip. That's insane
So you’re hammering the FO for signing someone else, who, by all fair accounts should perform as well as KC for a lot less $$$, at least for the next 2-3 years. I know, i like Fuller too, but he’s just not worth the same as a good starting QB.

The die was cast 2 years ago when we told KC to “prove it.” And not many here were clamoring that we should give KC a long term deal at that point, perhaps you were. After that, the FO had zero options, assuming you wanted KC to Continue to play for us. There was absolutely no point at which KC was agreeing to a long term offer. None.

So stop hammering the FO and the Redskins about this and give Kirk credit for playing things just right in a way no one had done before. And Kirk got lucky that we protected him well for both those seasons. Had he gotten hurt this story would have ended differently.

I would take cousins in a minute over smith but I understand his contract demands putting you off. We had a similar situation with houston. Waited too long to extend him now he makes almost brady money at outside lb. Knowing what a qb driven league it is I feel for skins fans such a tough spot no right answer. Sign cousins you payed too much let him walk and a potential if not already franchise qb leaves.
Well “Brady money” is less than $10M a year, since he gives the Patriots a huge hometown discount. Nice to have a wife that makes the big money...

"Washington is very fortunate to have a quarterback in Alex Smith. My year with him was one of my favorite years of football," Foles said. "Just being there in Kansas City, getting to work with him, seeing a guy that for some reason people critique all the time, I mean, the guy's a winner. I mean, look at him. Look at what he did this year and he just keeps coming. He keeps getting better."

That is a huge key, Smith is smart and can teach a young guy the ropes as well.

He's so good that they drafted his replacement in KC and SF and both teams kicked him aside. Foles is going to say all the right things.

I'll say one more thing regarding Colt. Back in May I went out to Redskin Park for an OTA practice. I have a business relationship w/ 980. Several people were invited and we could stand right next to the field. The players were just a few feet away. That day you COULD NOT tell the difference between Kirk and Colt. There were no pads of course but both guys really threw the ball well. Sudfeld struggled as his passes wobbled in the wind. But Colt ran the 2nd team and made nice passes into the wind down the field. He took more chances that day with the ball while Kirk played it safe for the most part. Obviously it's an OTA practice, but he's better than a lot of you think. He's been in the offense for several years and it would not surprise me if he outplays Smith during pre season. I'll leave it at that...

This is a fallacy. How many times has a good player been let go because a new coaching/regime change planted a new plan with a different scheme or style or the new leadership just wanting to go get “their guy” instead of the previous leadership’s choice. - Harbaugh and San Fran

How many times has a team let an older player go because of pressure to play their newly drafted pride and joy? - Maholmes and Kansas City

Alex Smith has got better each year. He is way better than he was on the 49ers and had great season last year. I like all that extra cap space. Should be able to bring back Brown and get another good player or 2 just with money saved on Smith's hit this year vs. What Cousins' will likely be.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith

I'll watch film of Alex Smith, before that, here are stats of Smith and Cousins when facing the same defenses, in 2017:

-Against the Eagles: Smith 21/28, 251yards, 1 TD (21 rush yards) sacked 4 times / Cousins 23/40 240 yards, 1 TD 1 INT (30 rush yards) sacked 4 times and Cousins 30/40 303y 3 TDs 1 INT (18ry) 4sacks

-Against the Chargers: Smith 16/21 155y 2TDs (9ry) 5sacks and Smith 23/30 231y 2 TDs (13ry) 1sack / Cousins 15/27 151y 1TD 1INT (8ry) 2sacks

-Against the Raiders: Smith 25/32 342y 3TDs (0ry) 1sack and Smith 20/34 268y 0TD 1INT (24ry) 4 sacks / Cousins 25/30 365y 3TDs (2ry) 1sack

-Against the Broncos: Smith 14/31 202 1TD (33ry) 1sack / Cousins 19/37 299y 3TDs 1INT (8ry) 0sack

-Against the Cowboys: Smith 25/34 263y 2TDs 1INT (19ry) 2sacks / Cousins 26/39 263y 1TD 1INT (0ry) 4sacks and Cousins 26/37 251y 2TDs 2INTs (6ry) 4sacks

-Against the Giants: Smith 27/40 230y 0TD 2INTs (27ry) 1sack / Cousins 19/31 242y 2TDs 1INT (4ry) 6sacks and Cousins 20/37 158y 0TD 3INTs (12ry) 3sacks

So, on common opponents this season:

Smith averaged 242,75 yards - 1,38 TDs - 0,5 INTs - 2,25 sacks

Cousins averaged 252,44 yards - 1,77 TDs - 1,22 INTs - 3,11 sacks

I'm not trying to read too much out of these, and am well aware that football is the ultimate team sport, QB is the ultimate dependable position, and Smith had a running game that Cousins didn't have.

But, I do think these numbers show you Smith is far from being a dramatic downgrade from Kirk, and he sure seems to be throwing less INTs than Kirk.

I still think Cousins can be a better QB considering what he's been capable to do under pressure behind a battered OL.

I also think we got the best replacement available.
seems like you and I are the only ones not mad about this move, I actually LOVE it
I still say this was the best available option left for Washington.

However, that being said, nothing can diminish the fact that the front office is replacing a 29-year old starting QB with a career passer rating of 93.7 with a 33-year old QB with a career passer rating of 87.4. They surrendered a very talented CB and a 3rd round pick as well. All it did for the Chiefs was give them 17 million more in cap room and make their defense better.

The irony of the deal is they are paying the 33-year old today, what they could have signed the 29-year old for 2 years ago.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
I'm with you guys.

Well, let's put it this way:

1) I love having Alex Smith here. Solid starter that can take us all the way with the team around him. Or at the very least win games while we develop a prospect (which we could draft this year, next year or the year after that).

2) But I do think the Chiefs "won" that trade, if I'm a Chiefs fan I'm thinking:
-We have our QB of the future
-We freed 17M in cap room, and Smith was only here for one more year anyway
-We got a rising young corner... And a 3rd, we'll take that!

So, not sure I LOVE the trade, but I do love that we solved our QB situation at a reasonable price and can move on!
Chiefs were going to "win" that trade no matter who the trading partner was. They were in the driver's seat with reportedly six teams interested. We showed that we wanted him more, and for longer than the other teams. I'm good with that considering the alternatives.

Bottom line: we had a QB we could win with, not because of. He wasn't going to stay for the long haul. And now we have a QB we can win with, not because of, and he's here for the long haul and we've got some cap space to continue building up the defense.

We're not worse than we were, and we've got the resources to get better.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith

Both teams won the trade. KC saves 17mm and the Redskins save 11+ mm on what it would have taken to tag or keep Cousins. Fuller is the cost of doing business to get a starting QB. We get a compensatory pick in the third round for Cousins next year. All other vet QB's on the market aren't as good as these two players.

Anyone who is mad is not realistic about the situation. Kirk did not want to stay here. He had them by the balls and this was their way out.

I completely agree. I like Alex Smith a lot, so I like the situation of this team a LOT better now than last week.

I was trying to say, as a Redskins fan, I don't feel like saying that I "LOVE" the trade itself.

But I can say I'm happy about it, and feeling good about what it means for the future of this team!

He had us by the balls because of our incompetent FO. The same FO who is still (and will be for the foreseeable future) making the big decisions.

Aka "man, they sure did a great job digging us out of this totally self-inflicted hole they put us in."

We already have enough problems without our FO creating more to be solved.

BTW there's no way with this new contract we are saving 11 mil a year over Cousins. The difference is there, definitely not that big though.

Can't wait until Smith is dinking and dunking us down the field and we're all complaining about how he isn't as aggressive as Cousins.

Here's a question, if you have somebody on a transition tag, Can you trade them to another team? And If so, does that team then inherit rights of 1st refusal while the Player seeks offers from other teams?

Smith throws long ball better than Cousins! He has way more postseason games than Cousins..he comes in a lot cheaper than Cousins. Maybe Doctson will have a new breath of life with Smith! looking for positives about this deal!!

20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Had we offered KC this contract 2 years most of us would have gone ballistic. And we should have, KC was nowhere near earning this kind of contract 2 years ago.

Again, we lost a 3rd round pick. And there's no guarantee we will get a 3rd round comp pick to make up for it.

KC got a decent CB with potential, a 3rd round pick, and saved $. All they had to give up was a 33 yo QB (will be 34 next season) they were ready to let go anyways.

WASH gave up the aforementioned player and pick, saved $. And will either let a 30 yo QB they know works well in their system go for nothing (maybe a 3rd rd don't count on it) or trans tag him for a trade. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

KC did well this deal. WASH actually didn't do bad getting Alex Smith but it doesn't cover up their failure signing Cousins. We basically gave a pick and player for the privilege of getting a 3-4 year older QB.

So Mooby, tell us what the front office should have done 2 years ago. Offer him a long term deal? Did you object to the “prove it” tag?

Let’s just say that Kirk rolled the dice and won. And got lucky that he didn’t get injured, at least in part because the team invested in a decent O-line. Game was over for the FO once he made it through the season before last.
