Trouble is the Haskins situation could have ended up with us still taking CY #1 overall.

All of the whatifs to me are invalidated by Snyder's ownership, and the blunders that ripple down to football side of things. I'm sure it would have been nice to have kept Cousins or draft Burrow, but I'm sure Dan would have found a way to eff things up. This is why I can't wait for him to be gone.

If we had gotten burrows we probably have more wins, most likely yes.

That would have kept DS in power if you are winning nothing else matters, the losing it draws DS out of his snake hole and in too the sunlight.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The New York Jets ended their two-week search for an offensive coordinator, hiring former Denver Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett on Thursday -- a move that will fuel speculation about a potential Aaron Rodgers trade.

Hackett, who replaces Mike LaFleur, served as the Green Bay Packers' offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2021 and developed a good relationship with Rodgers, whose future in Green Bay appears uncertain. The Jets are expected to be in the market for a veteran quarterback. Coach Robert Saleh interviewed seven known candidates for the position, opting for a veteran coach with extensive playcalling experience and someone he knows well. They worked together on the Jacksonville Jaguars' staff in 2015 and 2016.

I can see Rivera bringing in his old buddy Steve Wilks as our DB's coach to replace Harris. He has previous experience as a DB's coach and DC, including a 2005 stint in Washington.

Sounds like the DB Coach position will be filled internally - probably Christian Garcia. I think I heard that listening to John Keim.

Yesterday I was listening to radio broadcast of Eagles-49ers. I turned it on right after Purdy was injured. Anyways Ross Tucker was the sideline reporter and he kept going on and on about a balm being rubbed on Purdy but doesn't know what the balm was.

Anyways I just imagined Jackie Chiles being Purdy's doctor yelling at him about putting the balm on.

The NFL informed teams today that the 2023 salary cap will be a record $224.8 million per club, sources tell me and
@RapSheet
.

That’s up from $208.2 million in 2022, $182.5M in 2021 (COVID adjustment), 198.2M in 2020 and $188.2M in 2019.

Whaooo, that’s a big bump!

I really wish they'd increase overall and gameday roster sizes. Especially since we know the owners will strong arm their way through an 18-game season.

More painful too me is that all the other teams in the nfc east made the playoffs and look at the giants they have way less talent then us but still managed to make playoffs.

Also if you want really pour a box of Morton salt on the laceration look at all the talent that has come through here from coaching to players and we just let it all slip away. so even when we get it right we fuck it up.

We could have joe fucking burrow and still suck.

And it all points back to one giant ass clown.

But what should Curl earn in a new contract?

Coupled with Monday’s news regarding the salary cap increase in 2023, Curl’s new contract should make him among the top five paid safeties in the NFL next season. Currently, Derwin James, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jamal Adams, Harrison Smith and Justin Simmons comprise the top five. James has an average-annual value of $19 million per year, while Simmons comes in at $15.2 million.

There’s no way Curl comes in less than $15 million per season. Regardless, Washington can’t wait this one out. It’s best for everyone if Washington calls Curl to the negotiating table in February and hammers out a new deal.

Pay that man his money. He's the exact kind of guy we want to keep. I don't know about 80 million, but 4 years and 65 million (or thereabouts) would be fine w/ me.

AnonEmouse 01-31-2023 12:16 PM

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

I don't see how we have a choice about paying Curl top 10 money, but top 5? I'd take a breath before committing that kind of money. He's great but he's not top 5. Yet. I'd love to see us set for 3-5 years at safety (for me he and Forrest should fill that need).

Of course the other side of the coin is we'd need to replace him if we let him walk. A similar calibre FA is going to probably cost an equivalent salary to keeping him, and if he's gone we have to look at a draft pick to fill the gap (and of course there's no guarantees with a draftee).

We've also got to see what happens with Payne. Neither is cut and dried right now. I'd love to see them both re-signed early to reasonable contracts. If it drags out...
