Thomas, Allen, Settle...would be nice to lock them all up.

At least 60% of the most likely starting O-line will be FAs next year too, so might want to think about trying to do something there as well.

Gets interesting at the :54 when RR starts coaching. Such a difference from our last head coach. He works with Timmy Settle a little. Teaching "Team Defence".

Who knows. We scuttled Moses quick. If we spend a 2nd round pick on a TE, we might have that rookie, Bates, Reyes. I think it ultimately depends on cost. Suppose Thomas has monster year, do we pay him $8M? I like him, but he's 30 then and even with low mileage. . .

I still like approach of getting younger and not paying big deals to guys tail end of prime. At $4M-$5M he makes a lot more sense. Who knows.

At his best, is Thomas an elite TE or just a very good TE? The offense should make everyone else look better this year.

The problem, of course, is we can't afford to lock everyone up.
Good teams that draft well and are smart in FA have that problem.
I think Allen obviously tops the list.
I like Thomas, but I also think you can draft a guy as talented day 2.
I like the ruthless mindset of our FO, making the hard decisions, while still being honest with players and respectful.

I think next year our OL could feature Cosmi,Charles,Roullier, and perhaps Scherff or Flowers. Ideally Cosmi LT, Charles RT, Roullier C, and then hopefully we draft some Gs. Simply can't spend $30M at G and win in today's NFL. I wouldn't be suprised if next 2 drafts heavy OL as we rebuild OL like DL.

I wish the NFL would come up w/ a rule that you can go over the cap when re-signing your own guys.

But how would it work ? Because you likely would have signed new guys in the same season, so who decides if it was the new additions or the re-signings that made you go over the cap ?

They could apply a limit on the cap hit of signing your own guys, say only 75% of the full value applies to the cap, but they won't do that.

Oh yeah, way smarter than me on this one. I'd be curious to what would be the down side of that.
I guess the NFLPA would approve, as it would effectively be a big cap space booster. But yeah, I don't see why the owners would want that...

I think NBA has something like that. Smaller teams though and a stronger union.

It probably comes back to the old parity argument, if you can keep a team together for 5-10 years you go back to the old dynasties and the fact that bad teams may take longer to turn around which the NFL does not want
